  1. We have 2 of these and used them to top up at Parkes, but we had access to a car. I've used them several times, the longest walk we've done is 3km there and back, so 6km return. We also don't use them to carry fuel in the aircraft, we don't have the load capacity to carry our camping gear and extra fuel. So far, they've never leaked.
  2. We also did the Parkes Fly in. Good fun and met some great people. We didn't hang around for the Paul Bennet display as we didn't want to push our luck getting back to YLIL before sunset. Would have been nice if they could have done it earlier in the day.
  3. Weather looks great, if we can get out of Melbourne 😤 I predict we'll be sitting on the ground for a while, waiting for the narrow window to make our escape tomorrow morning.
  4. To help reduce thread drift; No idea why it moved, but I've booked an underwing campsite 🎪 I was also undewhelmed by the pilot brief, it refers to information on the website that is not there. I questioned RAAus on this and the response was; "The site map will go live on the website this week, so please do keep a lookout on our website"
  5. We use Barnetts for odd size freight up the east Coast. 4-6m crates regularly. Their rates are significantly better than DHL, Toll or TNT. But they don't do direct, so whatever you're shipping, will be forked on an off at their depots. and they won't help load/unload it, so you either manhandle it on/off yourself, or forklift if you have one.
  6. Yes, they have rules similar to ours. Google "Trent Palmer vs FAA" - enlightening and frightening at the same time.
  7. Would be happy to test also. I'm in Eastern Melbourne, happy for you to come along for the test also.
  8. Victim of their own success story actually. Order book doubled and they accepted the orders at fixed prices, lead times blew out due to inability to meet demand, whilst costs rose over the last couple of years - they were eventually selling below cost. Final blow was outsourcing to meet demand and got burnt by a couple of suppliers. Not too disimilar to home builders here in Aus.
  9. I hope they survive. Starting an RV build of some sort was on the cards for some time in the next year. (trying to get the builder to finish our house first - 2months overdue 😒 ) Low budget 7 build most likely, basic VFR with a used O-360.
  10. Filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy on Monday. Plan to restructure and continue trading. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4rWWokdchQ
  11. Have you tried Tooradin? It's a bit further, but I'm sure Lilydale or Coldstream would have space.
  12. You're a funny guy Turbo - Train to the airport in Melbourne 🤣😂
  13. This already happens with VH reg aircraft, so nothing new here. eg. google VH-CZP, Ansett B-737 Evektor Sportstar 😁 Cirrus SR22
  14. Interesting point from 5:30 in the video linked In a GAF, SCT when refering to clouds (3-4 OCTAS) has a different ratio of coverage to SCT-RA (50-75%) CASA Briefing - Deteriorating Weather

  15. The nose wheel for the road test vehicle and the flight test vehicle seem very different.
  16. Oooh, Kai Tak Airport. That was a fun one! Lufthansa 747 Cargo crew put theirs in the grass trying to avoid the same fate
  17. AGD MGV OHO DDM RCR
  18. Intructor I did the training with and Tester are both 70kg ish. Whilst the Warriors are fine, the Archer is a much nicer aircraft, the extra HP is noticeable. If I was buying, I'd take an Archer everyday. Compared the the Sportstar, they both feel like dump trucks though with regards to handling. They glide better than I expected - the handling gives the impression that they should just fall with style, but they do better than that, and if you're not paying attention, it's easy to overshoot.
  19. Yes, it's not hard really, the paperwork initially is a bit much, but you get there. The flying is a bit more procedural (radio and transponder management) and you need to be a bit more accurate with altitudes and track. I actually did the CTA/Nav stuff last week and on the way back stuffed up my PFL - it's the first one I've stuffed up since getting my RPC. So had to go back this morning and show that I could do it, did 5 in the end, different scenarios. It's been a good experience, I've flown 3 different Warriors and 2 Archers in the last 3 months.
  20. RPC to RPL conversion with CTA endorsement finalised this morning 😁 No photos to show, just negative cash flow 🤑.
  21. They don't care what you do to the aircraft. They are more concerned about what you will do with the aircraft and to a lesser extent, it's passengers. Yes agree, it's good to see a small amount of common sense in the Act, but the 2 hours after departure is dumb. When you think that you can look up a schedule, plan to arrive two and a half hours after the RPT has left, and get on the ground to be pinged because the RPT was delayed 45 minutes and only left an hour and 45 minutes ago
  22. Duplicate post
  23. Just putting this here 3.03 Requirement to display ASICs in secure areas (1) Subject to subregulations (4), (4A) and (5), regulations 3.05 to 3.09 and subregulations 3.18(2) and 3.26(2): (a) a person in the airside security zone of a security controlled airport must properly display a valid red ASIC; and (b) a person in a secure area (other than the airside security zone) of such an airport must properly display either a valid red ASIC or a valid grey ASIC. Penalty: 5 penalty units. Note 1: The requirement in subregulation (1) applies to a person who is accessing parts of the sterile area not generally accessible to passengers or the public. Note 2: For properly displaying, see regulation 1.04; for valid, see regulation 1.05; for secure area, see regulation 1.03. Note 3: A person who properly displays a valid VIC or TAC, and is supervised by a person who properly displays a valid ASIC, need not display a valid ASIC—see regulation 3.09. (2) To avoid doubt, the obligations in subregulation (1) apply to crew. (3) A contravention of subregulation (1) is an offence of strict liability. (4) Subregulation (1) does not apply in relation to a security controlled airport from or to which no regular public transport operation operates. (4A) At a security controlled airport from or to which no screened air service operates, paragraphs (1)(a) and (b) apply only during traffic periods. (4B) To avoid doubt, there is no requirement that a person display a VIC or TAC in the secure area of an airport referred to in subregulation (4A) other than during traffic periods. traffic period, for a security controlled airport, means a period that begins 2 hours before the scheduled time of arrival, and ends 2 hours after the actual time of departure, of a scheduled air service that operates to or from the airport.
  24. Much easier to not use the indicators and just drive "free form" 🤪 😈
  25. From the manufacturers websites, not wiki. Both list Cruise at 75% @ 8000ft Glasair G2 - 192kt RV14 - 170kt ( It's also refelected in the Stall speed, 46kt for the RV14 vs 62kt for the G2, I'm sure you'd agree that a low stall speed is better 😉 ) Advantage to the composite, but for those looking for a fast, economical cross country machine, they are pretty comparable in my book. And I agree with your observations on costings with metal vs composite, the question for the homebuilder is; Is that 22kt worth and extra US$62,000? Sales figures suggest not. But Vans have obviously been selling too cheaply. IMHO Vans are a victim of their own success. Accepted orders beyond their capacity to produce with locked in prices. Not too disimilar to the home builders here in Aus that have gone kaput with lock in contracts and 2 year lead times .
