  1. Hi Debbie, Great to hear your story! I flew a Gazelle up until very recently, and enjoyed every minute, so I can very much relate to what you are saying. Hope to hear lots more about your flying exploits in Tassie (and anywhere else!)..... Best Regards, Neil
  2. Hi Kev, Welcome! Yes - that bug never goes away! Hope you are enjoying your training, and will be doing lots more flying.... Cheers, Neil
  3. Hi Knpage, Welcome to the forums! I hope your Savvy build goes well. Cheers, Neil
  4. Hi FT, I actually spoke to Kermit at the Omaka WW1 event in NZ earlier this year and he said he is planning/building a new facility which will be "bigger and better" than the previous setup at Fantasy of Flight, so I am hopeful all those planes will be on display in some manner in the not too distant future..... Cheers, Neil
  5. Hi OME, Sounds like my kind of shop! Sadly I am not really able to drop in as I live in Melbourne, but it is added to my list if I am up that way (will have to make some excuse to my wife for going there....) Cheers, Neil
  6. Hi Rich, Good on you guys!! That is a brilliant initiative, very worthwhile. I wish I could join you. Let us know how you go in helping to preserve your wildlife - I hope you are very successful. All the best, Neil
  7. Hi Hannes, Welcome to the site! I also fly a Savannah S, and enjoy it very much. Cheers, Neil
  8. Hi Dan & Where in Melbourne have you been training? Would just agree with Geoff that reading up the stuff you expect to do in your next lesson is always a good idea so you understand why/what you are doing when it comes to the practical side of the next lesson. Also don't expect it all to go smoothly every time! We all have a few occasions where we forget stuff and it seems like we are not progressing. But keep on and it will all fall into place! And the most important point - enjoy it!! Cheers, Neil
  9. Hi Tasmag - What plane are you learning in? Good luck with your build. Cheers, Neil
  10. At risk of showing my age - yes, I certainly remember Whirlybirds!
  11. Hi Chris, LOL - sounds like you are a persistent bug.. , er.., person, so I reckon you will finish your training and get your licence, no problem!! Keep going, and keep us up to date with your progress. Cheers, Neil
  12. Hi Chris, Welcome, mate! Tell us a bit about yourself - where have you been learning, what are you learning in, what do you hope to do when you get your certificate/licence etc? Most people here are friendly and won't bite! Cheers, Neil
  13. Hi Peter, File hopefully sent! Let me know that you received it OK. It is 27MB. Cheers, Neil
  14. Hi, and welcome to the site! Average is exactly that - some solo sooner, some take longer.....don't worry about it. Having said that I have been flying for 5 years now, and still have yet to do a perfect flare, or centre line landing! Let us know how it goes.... Cheers, Neil
  15. Great stuff, Beefy. Enjoy your flying. Cheers, Neil
  16. Hi Dave, As you say - this is rather a Ford vs Holden thing. I have used AVPlan for a few years now and have been very satisfied with it. Also found the support people very friendly and helpful. If I were you I would look at both, and assess for your specific needs rather than do a (IMHO) rather futile box ticking exercise. Over time they will leapfrog each other with features. Rgds Neil
  17. Hi Phil, What's the point in getting old if you can't bore people from time to time?? I always enjoy reading your posts from Blighty, especially having originated from there myself. Now it must be time for my nap...... Tootle Pip, Neil
  18. Hi Keith, We flew our Gazelle for about 4 years with a 2 blade Bolly, as we bought it like that, then had the old wooden Allsize one refitted when the stink went up a few years ago. I expected to find a noticeable difference, but to be honest I didn't really. Dunno about the 3 bladers I'm afraid. Cheers, Neil

    Tow bar?

Hi fellow Savannah owners, I have just bought a Savannah S, and although she has a nice 310kg empty weight it would still be good (especially for pushing backwards) to have a tow bar for steering the nosewheel. What do any of you use? E.g Do the "Piper/Cessna" towbars advertized by some of the Pilot shops fit? Thanks, Neil
  20. Hi RichTee, Great photos - thanks for posting! I have also just bought a Savannah S and you are right - I don't chock the wheels with elephant dung Cheers, Neil

    First flight

Well done, Rob! I am sure you will enjoy flying her Cheers, Neil
  22. Hi Asthecrowflys, Welcome to the site! Many moons ago (1972-75) I attended the University of East Anglia in sunny Norwich, so I know the area (or used to know it anyway). I remember the whole county was very flat, as you say. Look forward to reading your posts! Cheers, Neil
  23. Those journos love to exaggerate - it was a ground loop after the guy landed in a crosswind, and after having run out of rudder tried the right brake, which failed and he sadly lost control of the aircraft. Not really a "crash", but an expensive incident with fortunately no casualties. The Omaka show is every 2 years, and this one was excellent. Loads of WW1 planes flying, although high winds curtailed their display on the Saturday. Sunday was better, and the full show was performed. One of the highlights was the arrival on the Friday evening of a MkXIV Griffon-powered Spitfire, which joined two Mk IX Spits for the subsequent displays. A must for any vintage plane enthusiast. Cheers, Neil
  24. Hi Yenn, Sadly I fear you are right. I remember many years ago in the UK, where voting is not compulsory, I was very tempted to get up early and go to vote for a guy who had changed his name by deed poll to "None of the above", purely because it appealed to my sense of humour. And then there was the sadly missed Screaming Lord Sutch's Monster Raving Looney Party, which wanted to debate such important issues as "why is there only one Monopolies and Mergers Commission?" It is a sad day when you can't inject a bit of humour into politics..... Cheers, Neil
  25. Dick Smith is absolutely right about the stupidity of continued growth - I thoroughly recommend his book "Population Crisis" which I bought at Melbourne Airport a year or so ago and had finished reading by the time we landed. ISBN 978-1-74237-657-8 If his party does nothing besides make the major parties think about doing something to curtail population growth then it will have achieved something...
