Glad you got away with it and have learned, and hopefully others will read and learn how quickly you can get into trouble. Many others, including experienced instrument rated pilots were not so lucky, they are now dead.

frankmcm, you're right about one thing.... It was a stupid thing to do and you should be more careful in future or stay on the ground.
3. Yes there is a point where you can turn back, just recently at Boonah I got an instructor to jump in the back seat of the Drifter (SB582) and it can definitely be done safely.
4. I think it's a great idea. Both sectors of aviation should be able to grow and prosper, not at the expense of one and other. There are many "recreational" GA pilots.
5. Oh no worries, thought it might be as the colours on the wings are the same, I learnt in 55-974 then it went to Dalby, it was a lovely machine!
6. I took the Drifter out on Monday too, here is a shot of Moogerah Dam at 67% capacity.
7. Looks good TOMO, is that 55-974 you are in?
8. Yep the book says you can fly without them, just remove the long wire that pins them in place
9. "Canungra International" is fairly close to Jimboomba, Or Kagaru is even closer, Or Thomas Field 10 nm south of Archerfield, you could fly out of these airfields.
10. You're right Spin, I would love to know of anywhere you can hire a Cessna for $150 per hour. David Isaac, are you able to prove that? You will find it is closer to $200 per hour and if you fly out of Archerfield the landing fee for a 152 is $28.00. Hiring a cessna 172 will cost more like $250 per hour. Let's look at the value for money you get: I think $150 for a brand new tecnam is not too bad, with GPS and glass instrumentation AND not forgetting that the tecnam is bigger inside and more comfortable than a Cessna, needs a smaller airstrip than a Cessna, climbs at nearly 1000fpm (lucky getting 500fpm in a 150) and cruises easily over 100knots you can go further, quicker. The Drifter will always be my favourite though.
11. To hire a fully equipped Tecnam at Boonah it is around $150 per hour. If the aircraft is being used for training and TIF's etc.. with beginners you must accept an increase of wear and tear than that of a private aircraft ( we all remember our first attempts at landing right? LOL)
12. The instructor you fly with is more important than what you are flying, although at Boonah we are bit spoilt for aircraft choice which makes things fun!
13. Without knowing the full story I would say he did a good job to get out alive landing amongst houses and wires with those big long wings that gliders are prone to have...... And I'm sure he looked both ways at the Give way sign too.
14. I love the RED ROCKET!!! but it will bite! And Spin I'm looking forward to the JCW fly-in
15. Yea weather was dismal in Boonah today, didn't even bother going out to the field so I don't know how the event panned out....
16. Hey there, well it looks like the weather gods are not smiling on us but let's all hope for a change and that it is clear enough on Sunday for the event to be held. It would be great to see heaps of Drifters on the field, I am not the organizer, that is member "boleropilot" - contact him on 0438 463 601 for details or email him at [email protected] to get more info. The last two years have been rained out or too windy, fingers and toes crossed that it is a success
17. Tally HO!, Tomo! Good show old boy.
18. Wow pretty fascinating stuff. I have flown over the approximate site it is real tiger country.... Maybe I should look into the walk from the north....I have always been interested in the story, when I was young we lived on a farm at Kerry which is at the base of the hill it crashed on. Don't forget to email my friend for the movie he is more than happy to send it to you.
19. Yes we are all keyboard experts, but it is good to discuss thing like this I reckon, Short runway, probably heavily loaded, trying to make her fly before it was ready, you can see he's got the stick almost all the way back which can prolong the T/O distance. Bit of a wing drop towards the end you can hear the wingtip hit the ground or a fence maybe, then it's all over.
20. Hey guys it's a great movie. If you email Glenn Cochrane on [email protected] and ask him he will post you a copy for free. It is worth a watch. Tell him David sent you LOL
21. Hi there, If there are any of you out there, like me, who are fascinated with the story of the Stinson VH-UHH that crashed in the border ranges on its way from Archerfield to Sydney many many years ago, there was a movie made about the events called the "Riddle of the Stinson" and although it is an old movie, it is a must see if you are interested in the crash etc..... The wreck is still perched in the mountains just south of beaudesert but unless you have athletic fitness and are up for a 13 hour treck with a guide............ I know a guy who can send you a copy of the movie free of charge so let me know if you're interested. Cheers
22. Yep Ballpoint the Cub is in fine form, I gave it a wash yesterday. I love the RED ROCKET!
23. Hey Guys just reminding that there is a "Drifter Fly-in" at Boonah this coming weekend, I believe Sunday the 19th is the main day. Boonah is the birthplace of most of the Drifters in Australia and the Flying-Tigers will be hosting the event so you will be looked after, the last two years have been washed out or blown out SO everyone with a Drifter please try and drop in to discuss how magical these machines are!!!! (Even if you don't fly a Drifter, PLEASE COME) The more the merrier. Boleropiot (member on here) is organizing so contact him for more info. Let's bring all the Drifters out of the woodwork!! 24. Ick You poor Law students....I bet you looooooooove reading huh? Don't worry, big Dollar $igns are gonna make it allllll worth it! Yea some of your posts can seem a little "defensive" ? HAPPY FLYING!!!!
25. G'day mate, by chance were you the Bloke I met back at Airsport at Boonah, I was the one getting the Red Cub ready to depart for WCK, anyway, if so - nice to meet you in"online land" Glad you had a good day, I turned around half way as my radio was squealing and sqwarking in my ears nearly made me deaf and my passenger didn't like it, Oh well. It gave me an excuse to get the Drifter back out and fly a real aeroplane!
