pudestcon
I thought I'd post a photo, well Google Earth image of my home strip at Wirraway Farm North Gabbin in Western Australia. Wirraway Farm is owned by a longtime good friend of mine who is an aviation enthusiast with a special interest in WWII German aircraft, especially the ME 109 and the Folke Wulf - he will crucify me for the spelling of that!!! Anyway we have both acquired Thrusters, built a hangar and Poll did the strips you see in the photo. What do you reckon? Pud
rgmwa
Very nice Pud, but it looks like a cut lunch and waterbag job to get there from Perth. rgmwa Edit: PS. The red lines marking the edges are a nice touch. Your mate did a good job on those.
pudestcon
Yep, you are correct rgmwa, takes me 3.5 hours by road from Leeming. It suits me because the area is my home area - grew up there and know everybody in the area. Also get to chill out in the peace and quiet. The drive gives you plenty of time to think. It's a bit hot at this time of the year too, but another 4-5 weeks will see a change in the weather. Pud

pudestcon
I was hoping this thread would take on a "Here's my home strip" from all the members here. So I'll see if some photos might prompt a few posters to contribute. It doesn't matter if your home strip is a dirt dunghole from outback or a nice black top complete with centre line, threshold and strip direction markers. Let's see it! Here's a couple of photos of my home strip to start. The small "cross" beneath the main strips was for flying model airplanes before the main strips were put in. Our friend Dick says the small strips are visible from 35,000 feet. View to the NE on approach to the airfield Pud

pudestcon
how about a quick tutorial on posting the Google earth images to the forum? I gotta remember how I did it now... Give me some time. Pud
pudestcon
OK. To get the Google Earth image you want, have it on the screen in Google Earth, ctrl+alt+S should bring up a box asking you to say where you want the image saved as a jpg file. Then just load it to here as per normal. What I do is make sure the image, photo or whatever you want to upload to the forum is small enough, then at the bottom of where you type your post, click on "Upload a File". The rest should be fairly self explanatory. Pud
Guernsey
"Here's my home strip"....you've got to be joking, there is no way that I am going to post a nude photo of myself in my bedroom. Sorry Pud. Alan.
rankamateur
Don't the runway numbers usually add to 36 or has that changed since the solar flares?
Yenn
No they don't add up to 36, but each end individual numbers add to the same total, ie 10 and 28 are both 10, 31 and 13 are both 4.
Guernsey
Well I'll be 'jiggery pokered' I didn't know that. Alan.
rankamateur
One number equals the other plus 18 (+180 degrees), so I see my mistake, my original statement is only the case for runway 18.

There`s 90 ha of freehold land that I could let you have. You`ll have the main strip with the old Drifter shed on it.... We`ll only need to negotiate :ace:on the shed as I`ll throw the land in free as a bonus. Up here, old sheds don`t come cheap though. Frank.
