Captain
G'day All, Here are photos from Thursday afternoon after a change came through and temp dropped like a stone. Maybe 100 aircraft here and more straggling in as the sun goes down. Hope you enjoy them. Regards Geoff
brilin_air
Geoff, Thanks for posting. We had to pull out at the last minute due to weather and work commitments. -Linda

Captain
It doesn't matter what aircraft you bring to a Fly-In, some bugger always turns up in something flasher. But as you can see, the weather is a big improvement over yesterday.

Will see if I can get you some shots if that's what turns you on. (PS ........ What was Marilyn like?)
Guest Howard Hughes
I have been as close to Marilyn as I have to Ausfly, only in photos!
Old Koreelah
Thanks for the great pix, Captain. Torture for those of us who couldn't get there. First time I've seen a Rutan with wing tanks. Very nice.

Captain
G'day all. I can recall a discussion after Natfly a year or so ago about how hard it is to include air displays (except for the unauthorsed display by the couple of cowboys 2 years ago). Well the SAAA have had about 2 hours of air displays here this afternoon including a couple of aircraft from Temora Museum and some fantastic models (including a 50% scale Extra). If the SAAA can do it, why can't the RAA? However they are in a bit of strife now as the air displays are still going at 5.23 pm and the Unicom is saying that they will go for another 30 minutes. As a result they are punting holding aircraft off to Dubbo for fuel, and the holding pilots are getting toey about arriving before last light (and I don't blame them). Captain
AND .... there is a band setting up for tonight. This Ausfly appears to be very well run and innovative in their approach by SAAA.

fly_tornado
SAAA seems like a much more friendly organisation than the RAA, seems like everyone in it has a common focus on having fun.

Captain
Witnessed a fine example of arrogant and crappy airmanship when 2 RAA registered Jabiru's forced their way in here this morning. There were about 5 aircraft, including a Pitts and some quite quick aircraft, in the circuit and runway 11 was clearly the active runway. There were also 2 or 3 aircraft in the area conducting local flights. In addition there were 2 or 3 aircraft calling in from way out (including a Mustang) saying that they were anticipating joining downwind for 11, when a Jabiru called that he was approaching from the north and would make a straight-in approach to runway 22. Then a second Jabiru called in the same so I assume they were mates (or trained by the same disfunctional CFI). Amongst numerous circuit calls from 4 or 5 aircraft using 11 the first Jabiru called a 10 mile straight in approach to 22. Someone called the Jabiru to tell him that 11 was active and that there were a number of aircraft in the circuit for that runway. The Jabiru did not acknowledge and shortly after called a 4 mile straight in with the second Jabiru again calling straight in on 22 soon afterwards. Nothing further was heard so I assume that they just charged on in but didn't hit anyone. With a Fly-In like this with numerous real quick aircraft out and about, I can't for the life of me understand how anyone could call straight in like this if there were other aircraft in the circuit for another runway unless a pilot is so far up himself that he can't consider anyone else, or if he was so poorly trained as to think he had some rights in the above situation. I agree that this is probably an unlikely scenario, but you have to give people the benefit of the doubt until you have the facts. I've certainly heard (or attempted to hear) some very poor radios on some aircraft; some that I wouldn't even rate their transmissions as a 1. I often wonder whether they get as poor reception of me as I do of them.
fly_tornado
if they where unable to recieve radio signals they should have joined the circuit normally, its just the RAA standards

Or perhaps both sets of headphones only worked on transmit. Geeeeez I hope you are the Judge if I ever have to next go into Court. Regards Geoff Geoff: It's still possible that while flying together they may have been able to hear transmissions that originated withing a half mile (say) but nothing from further out. I was an avionics tech for years, and this sort of thing is not uncommon. A radio may be capable of blurting out a few watts of transmit power but not necessarily be capable of receiving a microwatt signal if the antenna is poorly set up. BTW, I wasn't having a go at you. The fact that the Jabiru did not acknowledge a direct communication suggested my response.
