Whats to see in western Victoria?

Ultralights

Recommended Posts

i am sitting in a 3star motel room at Echuca as i type, and the Savannah is on Victorian soil for its first time.. tomorrows ultimate destination is the Grampians, but what is there to see in between? we have about 2 or 3 days before departing north for outback NSW.

the only must see location is the 12 Apostles so far, which we might aim for tomorrow morning from Echuca before heading north to the grampians, and some fuel... locations with credit card bowsers would be good. and accomdation would be nice also, we have no real plan, just touring.

Ballarat has fuel. (avgas and Mogas.) Look out for helicopters around the apostles. There is a landing field and accommodation in the northern part of the Grampians, called "asses ears"'

go for a run in a steamer , The Alexander Arbuthnot, at Echuca. Nev

I think Grampians and 12 Apostles are the main attractions out here.

If you drop into Ballarat, feel free to give me a buzz. We can go and get some good coffee.

Cheers,

Evan

[Edit] just saw the posts in between. Still, if you are in the area.

If your going to the 12 apostles be sure to read fly friendly procedures in ERSA before departure. (Specifically heights to be flown going East or West, dedicated CTAF etc). There can be up to eight Choppers in the air at any time and can be busy during holiday season. If you need a break on the way to or from the coast Cobden airfield is pretty much on route and about 20 nm. from the 12 Apostles. The Cobden Aero club clubhouse is always accessible, WC, tea/coffee and accommodation if you want to rough it. (All free to aviators). Fuel is available if required. (phone No in ERSA) Enjoy!!.

tomorrows stage will be Grampians, to Warrnambool, down to The 12 Apostles, then up to Ballarat, just to top up the main tanks, then up to Mildura, and if time weather permitting, then up to Bindara Station near Minindi Lakes.

does anyone know of accommodation available around Mildura/Swan hill area?

G'day. We didn't make it to far south, 20kt headwinds and low cloud didn't help. So we headed north and stayed overnight at Bindara Station on the Darling river south of Menindi lakes. Fantastic place to stay! Top quality airstrip as well. Today off to broken hill for food and fuel then to Narromine for overnight and a warm shower.
