red750
A LIGHT aircraft carrying seven passengers crashed off a runway into bushland east of Carmila yesterday afternoon. The pilot of the Gipps Aero GA8 Airvan was aiming for a runway on Avoid Island (in the Percy Group) when it overshot and landed down steep embankment towards the water's edge. Ron5335
Maybe the press got it mixed up, and it was 7 little people in a C 182. Also, there is no runway visible in the background, (Stated overshoot)

Bob There is a maintained airstrip on Avoid Island. I have not landed there but have spoken to the chap who mows the strip etc. Normally accessed by turtle research people and other invited persons. Yenn
AvPlan shows the strip running from SE corner N Westerly to the beach. It could have run off at either end but probably the SE end.
