onetrack Posted yesterday at 12:11 AM Posted yesterday at 12:11 AM Brendan, I never worked underground as a miner, I was a surface miner, I like seeing the sun when I'm working. But I worked closely with the underground miners, and got the "inside info" on working conditions. I only went underground on odd occasions, and was glad to be back on the surface when I got out.

sfGnome Posted yesterday at 12:50 AM Posted yesterday at 12:50 AM It’s just occurred to me (sorry to bring the tone back down) that stockings/thermals/etc are all going to be a disaster in case of in-flight fire. Isn’t it recommended that you should only wear cotton-based clothing in the air because it won’t melt into your skin in a fire? I guess it’s a trade-off. Which is more likely; losing all your skin in a fire or freezing to death? 🫣 2
ClintonB Posted yesterday at 12:55 AM Posted yesterday at 12:55 AM nanna could knit pure wool ones, i believe wool fibre is a bit fire resistant. wouldn't look to baaaad either 1

onetrack Posted yesterday at 01:25 AM Posted yesterday at 01:25 AM If you're really worried about burns in a crash, wear a Nomex fire suit, as the race car drivers do. I'd have to opine the greatest threat from a fire breakout after or during a crash, is the high likelihood of lung damage, caused by ingesting flames, soot and smoke. No fire-resistant clothing can prevent that. 1

Litespeed Posted yesterday at 12:56 PM Posted yesterday at 12:56 PM I bought merino wool thermals at Aldi. Lovely and warm, ultrafine weave and feels like cotton. Wool is very fireproof, standard fare for older fireman suits. Sadly, when bushfires occur you see dead sheep leaned against a fence and the fleece is unburnt and that's with a full load of natural oils. 1
