  1. OK so I`ll ask another question. Whats the rebuild time on say a Rotax 582
  2. I actually watched that vid this morning. His grin at the end got me hooked
  3. Think I mentioned that The Drifter is also one Ive had a look at, and like the look of. But I have another novice question. Technically the ones Ive seen are taildraggers. Does that mean to fly one, one has to be taildragger certified?
  4. Guess I shouldnt believe all that I read. Ihink I saw that enquiry on a Youtube vid somewhere. So my bad for the "(EEK)"comment. Butlets talk more about the X-Air. Stated 50kn Cruise speed. Gentle but a little shy. Yes? Or (and yes Im a novice. So Im allowed to ask stupid questions) Would the aircraft stand a bigger motor like the 912UL or too much for it weight wise. Or is it a case of if you want to got faster buy a bigger plane?
  5. WOW 1998. Cool. That would be great. Cheers Craig
  6. Gday all. New to aviation. And as all new pilots do. They look over countless aircraft to see which may suit them , when it comes time to maybe purchase their own plane. So have seen the X-Air standard come up in a few feeds. Have looked at a bit of Youtube, but most seem to be up to nearly a decade old. My question is, are they standing up to the test of time? Interested to hear from owners or previous owners on air-frame quality. Maintenance. And general fly-ability. Ive noticed they have had a few different Rotax engines in them, and also including the Jabiru 2200 (eek). So love to hear how they are holding up a decade down the track. Cheers Craig
  7. I seem to think all this stemmed from some people insisting on details from the Aratula crash. Based on the fact that other crash thread have been picked over by every armchair crash investigator. And this one seemed to be being covered up by in "in crowd" cause it was one of them. Personally Im sure it will all come out in the wash eventually. Except maybe the smell of urine on shoes.? ??
  8. Can I just clear a few Rules about firearm ownership here. Even though this is an aviation forum. For a standard firearms licence. Minimum is to be a member of a registered shooting club. That can be SSAA or any other registered shooting club. This gives you an SC1 ( Shooting club 1) this gives the average joe reason 1. For a Cat A or B firearm To hunt on private property. One needs a RE1 (Rec hunting). This also used to require a permission to hunt letter. With all the various criteria. However that has been superseded by being in a registered club as SSAA and most registered clubs have access to properties. Thus negating the need for a PTH letter. There is a few small differences in the ruls depending on state. And also if your a prim prod. Or have the use of specialty firearms for business. Just thought Id clear that up a bit. Now back to the "my knowledge is better than your knowledge" debate
  9. Having not being there. I personally can not comment on what went wrong. However there does seem to be a huge "Cone of silence" on this one. Compared to what usually happens in this particular forum heading. I guess as long as the gentleman hurt makes a full recovery. Thats all that matters.
  10. Does seem to be there. 9th from the top (barring any other reported incidents)
  11. So is every incident logged with ATSB? Or is it only if its deemed nessasary to report on?
  12. I assume neither pilots were a member of this forum?
  13. Boy this convesation about age. Im 57 and just starting my aviation journey. Guess some got to live their dream early. Where some like me had to wait. I hope Imas good or better than Im taught I guess.
  14. As a relative newbie to aviation. What is the general time frame for investigating aircraft crashes and incidents. I understand this could sound a bit like a " how big is a piece of string" type question. But just interested to know so one couuld study cause or factors reguarding aircraft incidents. Cheers Craig
  15. As Im just starting out. Could you explain what you mean by "tents to have a steep nose in a climb" Cheers
  16. Gday all. I did my first flight today. It was in a FK9 MkIV. Typic 2 seater trainer from Germany. Just wondering if anyone else is training in one? And what do you think of it as you go further down the training path. It was my first flight in it, but seemd to be nice enough to fly. Cheers Craig
  17. I believe you would be right. But there's a huge gulf between novice and long time pilot. When it comes to "up there for thinking and down there for dancing" when you dont know how to foxtrot. Let alone waltz.?
  18. WOW very informative read. Quite new to aviation. Interesting to note certain characteristics about certain aircraft
  19. As a rural firefigher. They would be transmitting on the GRN system. I would assume. Its a digital network. We have gone over to it here in Qld in the last couple of years. But we still have a UHF and VHF system inplace
  20. Im new to aviation and looking at the Gazelle. Can I just ask what you meant by the last bit of your statement? Meaning "are Gazelle parts hard to come across "? Cheers Craig
