Long post for someone who doesn't have an interest in ultralight aircraft. The U S have a good part 103 which is gaining popularity yet he is saying Australia can't manage to do the same.

Well if they aren't interested in part 103 they don't need to be having a go at people who are. No one said it was an raaus decision. But casa are never going to pass it if raaus aren't on board.

yes i can see that. the freedom and economics make it very attractive.

i just thought it was an interesting example of the one time brs could be worth it. ie: midair collision or in flight breakup.

maybe the only way to get part 103 passed is to let raaus charge an annual fee of some sort. i have heard that they are opposed to it because they will lose revenue. there would be very few part 103 aircraft in raaus anyway so you would not think there would be a mass exodus.

i watched a yt today on a run of quad city challenger accidents . there were some that lost a wing midair due to a fatigued strut bracket. there were fatalities but the one pilot that survived had a brs and he walked away without a scratch, so they are great for structural failures.

what clubs are you talking about. aeroclubs, soccer clubs , vfl ?

we are old enough and ugly enough to look after ourselves. if your flying in remote areas and not carrying passengers who are we going to hurt.

on the boom shortening, i was told it has been done and it turned a good thruster into a pig. not from a balance point of view but propeller airflow gets disrupted and causes issues. stewart might know.

I enquired about doing some of my raaus lessons at Moorabbin last week. I was told to go and get a class 2 air medical before I can fly there. Even though I am raaus.

i can't help with nascar accidents but microavionics make an excellent microlight flying helmet that slips over a standard headset not too expensive , i think 8or900 last time i looked. lots of options with visors etc. mendehlsons in melbourne are agents and do mail order.
