  1. Yes, but will the wings stay on after that or are we going to fall out of the sky (but really fast)?
  2. I'd go with the Drifter, be an interesting change (although I'd probably spend the time thinking it's awfully slow after the Jab )
  3. If anyone's interested, I was told to use whiteout (so that's what I've done) :)
  4. Good grief, seriously? How completely insane :raise_eyebrow::raise_eyebrow: Pulling up a paver seems an awful lot of effort really... I'd also be willing to pay for the rec flying sticker/paper/whatever to support the site if Ian wants to (or has time) to get on board with this thing. Otherwise I can just print it myself and stick it on my car :)
  5. Cheers Spin. Just wanted to make sure :) If I ever go to QLD, I might take you up on it ;)
  6. Maybe it's because of you Tomo ;) Perhaps you should take them up for a flight in your Drifter...
  7. I'd just like to point out that, in my previous posts, I was not suggesting anything like this. I agree with what Nev has said and am not suggesting that this kind of relationship should form. I'm just saying that enjoying the view can't totally be a bad thing sometimes... In all seriousness, I wasn't suggesting anything like this and hope that nobody thought I meant it this way
  8. I think it is partly different interests....I've always known that 'one day' I would get a pilot's licence (and I'm 'finally' doing it at 22). Most of my friends think it is amazingly cool but clearly wouldn't be interested in trying it themselves. I also absolutely love driving and get a thrill whenever I get behind the wheel of a car, even if I'm only going to Coles, maybe there's just something about me? If you advertised more about the shopping and men prospects associated with flying, it might actually get people in (I'm not totally joking either, the amount of my friends who've asked me how many hot young pilots I've met...) And Facthunter, I do agree that the said 'attractive young male instructors' do need to be able to teach well as well, don't get me wrong (since that's the most important part of instructing!). Sometimes, though, you can end up with someone who's both
  9. Find lots of attractive young male instructors...that would get them doing TIFs at least!
  10. Glad to see it isn't just me who's enthusiastic :) And it doesn't have to be done on proper sticker stuff either - like the example in Slarti's first post, just photo paper and stickytape. My other bumper sticker is actually stickytaped onto the inside of my rear window because then I can remove it if I sell my car and move it to the new one (I actually have done this, I moved it from my old car to my current one) so really having it stickytaped could be a benefit... Also, totally think it should have the username thing like on Slarti's example:thumb_up:
  11. This is a really old thread, but I just found it and I like the idea. Did it end up going ahead or not? Nice way to identify each other... I would totally have a Rec Flying sticker to put next to my 'My other car is a TARDIS' sticker if anyone wants to revive the idea
  12. This is a review of the LightSpeed Zulu Headset. The format of this review is ripped off from the reviews by Pelorus32 (thanks!). If you want to read the review I wrote after the first time I tried it, go HERE. Otherwise, this is my review after using for about 4 hours flying so far. Delivery, Versions & Installation The Zulu comes packed in a (rather impressive) box. Inside the box is the headset in its case, the cords to connect your phone and iPod, instruction manual and batteries. The Zulu comes in several different versions. Straight cord with GA plugs, battery powered Straight cord, panel powered Coil cord, battery powered, single plug Coil cord, panel powered Coil cord, GA plugs, battery powered This review is based on the straight cord, battery powered, GA plugs version. The included case is quite good. It is 'semi-hard' and the headset fits well. The cords fit into a small divider in the middle of the case which also has the effect of separating the earcups so they don't press against each other. The one downside with the case is, if you put too many things in the small pocket (and by too many, I mean more than maybe 2), it is hard to close the case. Things in the pocket need to be arranged well for the case to close properly. I've managed to fit spare batteries, a small pen and a small whiteout but I wouldn't want to try to fit much more. Features Comfort; Noise attenuation; Audio and microphone performance Build quality. Comfort. I find the headset very comfortable to wear. I have a scar on the top of my head which becomes very painful if pressure is put on it, so weight and clamping pressure were very important to me. The Zulu is very light and, since it's ANR, doesn't have extremely strong clamping pressure. A few times when I've been wearing it, I can hardly feel that it's there. Noise Attenuation. The Zulu has Active Noise Reduction (ANR). When I was trying headsets I also tried the Bose and found little difference between the two (although I am hardly an expert). In my opinion, the ANR works well. The engine is still audible (which is good!) but definitely far less audible than a passive set. The Zulu also has quite good passive attenuation. Recently I forgot to turn on the ANR and didn't realise until I was doing my pre-takeoff checks and was wondering why the radio was so loud (not the engine, the radio). I'm quite impressed by the passive reduction considering the headset is designed for ANR. Audio and Microphone Performance. The audio is crisp and clear. It is also quite loud, I fly with the volume down to about 1/2 and sometimes it's still a little loud. Both the radio calls and the intercom are clear and easy to hear. The microphone also seems to work well. I could hear myself far better than I used to with the passive sets and I no longer have the worry that the mic won't pick up me speaking (although that might also be the fact that I don't mind having it closer to my mouth because I know there haven’t been other people coughing/sneezing/puking on it). Before I purchased the headset I heard that the intercom doesn't work if battery power is lost. I forgot to turn the power on recently (as I said above) and the intercom still worked so this is clearly untrue. Build Quality. The headset appears to be built well. The earcups are made of magnesium which supposedly durable and also blocks out noise (according to the Lightspeed website anyway). The headset has a 5-year parts/labour warranty. Extras The headset has a few 'extra' features. Music The Zulu comes with the ability to plug in an mp3 player to play music through the headset. An extra cord is supplied to do this. I haven't tried this in flight, but I have connected my iPod at home. The music quality appears to be quite good. It becomes even better when the Front Row Centre (FRC) option is selected. This is supposed to make it sound like you're at the front row of a concert - I'm not quite sure it does that, but it does improve the music quality and it does sound good. The headset also has an 'auto-mute' feature which automatically mutes any music playing when a radio call comes in. I haven't tried this feature yet but I have heard that it works well. Phone connection The headset also comes with the ability to connect mobile phones and make calls using the headset. A cord is included that will attach certain phones to the headset (not compatible with mine so I haven't tried it). Phones can also be connected using Bluetooth. I think that a bluetooth connection can also be used to play music through certain phones (like iPhones) but I haven't tried this. My phone does have a bluetooth connection but I haven't yet tried it with the headset so I'm not certain how well it works or how easy it is to connect. From other reviews I have read, however, it sounds like it works quite well. It seems a good feature to have in case of needing to make a call in an emergency or something anyway. Summary Overall, I'm pleased with this headset. It is comfortable, even with my pesky scar. The ANR works well and it is seems to have good passive reduction. I cound say more here, but I would basically be repeating my review above! I would recommend this headset. Likes Comfort Noise attenuation (both ANR and passive) Comfort Audio and microphone performance
  13. Actually, it appears we're both right (go Google:)) Rex: [as he and the other toys applaud and whistle] Whoooooooooooooa! Oh, wo you flew magnificently! Bo Peep: I've found my moving buddy. Buzz: [proudly] Thank... th-thank you all, thank you! Woody: That wasn't flying! That was... falling with style! So, basically, we're both awesome:thumb_up:
  14. Wasn't it Woody who said it wasn't flying, it was just falling with style?
  15. Well, today I took the pesky thing down to Eastern Wheel Works in Lilydale in a last-ditch attempt to get it repaired. They've taken it, they're going to take the tyre off and see if they can fix it. The main thing they seemed to be worried about was potential damage to the chrome when banging the dents out but apparantly I can pay $350 or so to get it re-chromed if that happens. As a note, they said that they were the only place in Melbourne who would deal with the crack (which is about 3-4 inches long), so if you end up cracking your wheel, might want to try them So yeah, going to see how they go... :)
  16. The rest of the gang agreed that they couldn't think of anyone who would be disappointed if Ahlo succeeded... They thought hard. 'Maybe we can use our Subrolla to do it?' suggested Darky. 'We might even win the Nobel Peace Prize in the process (after all, it clearly isn't that difficult)'...
  17. Or you could be like this kid... i_dunno
  18. Yeah those are the guys I went to (well, sent my Dad to ), and they said it couldn't be fixed. They're prolly right but I've found a couple of places in Lilydale and Heidelberg I thought I might try before giving up and buying new rims... I've found some rims on eBay (18" this time) but now I'm trying to work out whether they'll fit my car, plus then I'll need to get new tyres. I'm seriously wishing I'd never left home on Saturday!:baldy:
  19. I popped in on Saturday with the wheel and they took a photo, and I have also emailed them, but so far haven't heard back from them so it doesn't sound promising. I've also emailed the wheel company but haven't heard back from them either (sigh) I think on the weekend I'm going to take myself to a few more wheel repair shops (I've only been to one so far) and just see what they say. I've been told that it won't matter so much if the wheel is slightly weaker if I swap it over and put it on the back...I'll have to check that too I guess.
  20. Rod Machado on flight instructors: "we look cool because we've been trained to sweat on the right side of our face only"
  21. That would actually be awesome to see
  22. *considers trying to find a 3-wheeled car instead*
  23. Yeah, the strength is what I'm wondering about, but I never go above 100km/h so I can't see why it'd matter. I'd also have to take it to a wheel repairer of some sort though because the rim is dented in two places so I'd need to get it...'re-rounded' (I'm sure there's a technical name of some sort:laugh:) I'm thinking I might take it to a wheel place and ask, if I got it welded somewhere else, would they bash the dents out. I actually went to the airport again today and went down the road where I hit the pothole. I couldn't see the pothole anywhere and if it wasn't for the fact that my rim is damaged, I'd think I imagined the whole thing!
  24. I went flying this arvo (wouldn't say it was my best lesson ever though) but when I left I got about a minute (or less) away from the airport, realised that I wouldn't be flying again until next Wednesday and got slightly depressed... I swear there should be a warning that aviation is addictive!
  25. Really? I went to an alloy wheel repairer and they said it wasn't repairable, is an aviation welder likely to say different?
