  1. Local Murray Bridge news has a couple of pics.. http://www.murrayvalleystandard.com.au/story/2180027/light-plane-crashes-into-paddock-at-pallamana/?cs=1275#slide=1
  2. Ozzie... I have exactly that problem with endorsements. I designed and built a Robin 440 powered 95:10 taildragger, then flew it from 87 to 2003 , about 140 hours. My tailwheel endorsement diasappeared from my certificate a couple of years ago. Didnt worry about it until I started actively flying last year. In short tryed to get it back with logbook evidence etc. I now have to find a school with a 2-stroke LEGAL Lightwing and redo the the endorsement if I want to fly it again. Bah humbug!
  3. Happily I'm still 87kg in my Sunday best. I was more concerned about the passenger weight, but I guess I could do a selection of passengers say from 50kg to 100 kg so I have a ready reference.
  4. As so often said, One that you can walk away from is a good one... TWO people have walked away without serious injury from a light plane that crash landed near the Aldinga Airfield. Emergency services were called to a paddock north of Colville Rd, 1km from the airfield, about 11.30am when after the plane was forced to make an emergency landing. Two people on-board the twin-engine Piper escaped uninjured From http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/south-australia/two-people-aboard-light-plane-that-crashed-near-aldinga-airfield-walk-away-uninjured/story-fni6uo1m-1226812943068
  5. These can be fitted with a single solid wire to control a trim tab directly or flexible cable to apply spring bias to the elevator control rod http://www.aeroconversions.com/products/trim/index.html
  6. Hi Guys, I'm trying to find a reference for standard pilot weight for W&B calculations. I thought I read somewhere that it had been upped from 75KG to something like 80KG, but haven't been able to find anything definitive. Any pointers out there? Thanks in advance Richo
  7. Its not confined to private pilots, a number of years ago I had to fly on a regional service from Adelaide to Port Augusta. It was a late winters afternoon, the single pilot had leaned the engines on the Navajo, switched on the autopilot, sun was streaming into the cockpit. I was sitting a row back, watching the progress of the flight, when I noticed the subtle head bobbing.. Yep he dozed off, for about 5 mins.. I thought mmm... thats professional, do I wake him or not? I was about to get out my seat and poke his shoulder but he woke up.. looked at me, mumbled something and went back to fiddling knobs. He managed to stay awake for the rest of the flight, and avoided me at the conclusion.
  8. My local school also received the same letter friday. The Owner/CFI is absolutely gobsmacked re the statement in the letter regarding the lack of financial contribution, and the total lack of dialog. Well and truly pulling the rug out from under the feet. They are only doing training out of passion, a desire to share that passion, cover costs to be able to come back next week and do it all again. All the people they take for TIFs, BFR's, day trips, maintaining a small community feel, a meeting place for local flyers to drop in for a chat and coffee between students.. a whole range of things to foster aviation in the local area.. remove that and the loss will certainly be felt hard for a school that has only been operating less than 12 months. Someone commented above that they expected to see membership fees drop in response to removing the FTF's from the insurance... Sorry no, they are increasing across the board, I think from memory $210 per year for a full membership. The hourly rate will reflect the increased costs and will be passed onto students. How this is making flying RAAus affordable I dont know, its certainly making GA look attractive again when you look at that avenue.
  9. They also have added another new Ancillary Product for the 2200 and 3300.. a Muffler seal kit. http://camitaeroengines.myshopify.com/collections/ancillary-parts Not sure if it will work on my installation as the exhaust pipes go in at angles i.e. gap one side larger than other, but might be worth looking into?
  10. Looks like they had more than one go at staging it, smoke on the runway before the aircraft is visible
  11. I guess it would depend on if you used commercial grade material i.e. 6063 aluminium tube vs 6061-T6 aircraft grade material If you sourced aircraft grade material locally, or did a bit of importing with the low dollar I could see $15k evaporating fairly quickly for a one-off kit. Economies of scale my produce some savings with larger orders. I built a 95-10 from scratch back late last century 1984-87, mostly local materials for about $5k including $1k for a hardly used Robin 440cc. To build the same aircraft today sans engine I would estimate $10-12k
  12. Scott have a look at the electronic versions, solid state no gyros to wear out. Dynon have the D1 http://www.dynonavionics.com/docs/D1_intro.html
  13. Ok I give up, I looked at the Service Bulletin list and searched the Jabiru site for "AVDALSR085-1" but I cannot locate the document? The only ones there appear to be AVDALSR071 and AVDALSR050
  14. Tip: If you're on the field with the missus, she may baulk at using the portable loos... catch a free bus to the EAA museum , she'll love you for it
  15. So why does my new Sensenich wooden prop come pre-drilled for spigots?
  16. Once upon a time I used to think the larger Briggs and Stratton engines were bullet proof... then the alloy conrod cracked at the big end clean in half on my ride on mower.. The repair shop could not give a reason why. Engine was maintained correctly and subject to frequent oil changes, even used the proper Briggs and Stratton branded oil. Kind of went off them after that.
  17. VW operators have long reported the stock dull black steel rocker covers are much better at dissipating excess heat than shiny after market aluminum jobs, fins or no fins
