Wanted: Sonex LH wing or parts thereof.....
aj_richo replied to a topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
Hey Maj, none that I know of. Could be an unfinished project lying about somewhere, there are around 69 Sonex/Waiex plans/kits/airframes allocated to Australia, 26 listed as completed/flying. So you may jag something. You could send a message to all members of sonexaus.wikispaces.com by joining the mob (I'll approve it as soon as I see the request) Cheers Tony -
Why go for minimums when training? I'd go for a similar length strip to say Strathalbyn or Murray Bridge where training is currently conducted

Alpi pioneer rotax carb bowl drip trays cracking
aj_richo replied to DrZoos's topic in Engines and Props
Earlier this year I had an inflight carb leak on a P96 Tecnam. One of the float pins on the early Bing made its way out of the bowl.. leaving a hole for fuel to drain out. The tray captured the fuel and dumped it overboard instead of flooding the engine and cowl area. I was flying it in mildly turbulent conditions at the time, and briefly smelt fuel... didn't think anything of it.. but on reflection I should have! Anyway, on return to the line there was much arm flurrying and chopping motions from the owner when I taxied in, at idle there was fuel freely running from the drain! I think you need them trays! -
Flying out of/into Archerfield? Would be VH registered? Good job.. looks pretty built up around there

Motor Glider recommended 2 stroke oil?
aj_richo replied to glidernut's topic in Gliders and Soaring Aircraft Usergroup
I've run Castrol Super TTS for years in a Robin 50hp 2-stroke.. never had any problems as long as the mix ratio is adhered too.. I'd keep using it. -
question-Aircraft suitable for enclosed trailers
aj_richo replied to dazza 38's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
Onex has folding outer panels Sonex/Waiex has removable wings but they're time consuming to get on and off and need two people -

Avro Vulcan takes flight again
aj_richo replied to Gnarly Gnu's topic in Warbirds, Vintage and Classic Aircraft
Amazing aircraft, yes bloody noisy! I remember having a good look at one staging through RAAF Edinburgh on its last hurrah tour and putting on a bit of a show.. -
"Those Sonexs have an interesting and distinctive shape!" ..when they're not bent! Having built one, its going to be a big job to de-manufacture, then re-manufacture the airframe. Sonex normally limit one set of extruded spar caps per plans serial number, so hopefully he can get a new set to replace the damaged ones. (Making an assumption as its seriously missing some dihedral!)

Here is a better shot of the wing with the tail out of the way, doesn't look like it was carved off by a wire strike but I have no accident investigative skills.. -

Both wings are with the wreckage if you bother to look, what is detached are the flaps -
..they hadn't been invented yet..

Its probably been quoted elsewhere but Rotec have some notes on use of Flashlube when running unleaded in their engines. http://www.rotecaerosport.com/faqs/rad-fuels/

There is also another message in the same thread, this time running auto fuel but same issue with detonation and same fix.. gutful of fresh fuel.. I would have thought that one would more likely be a fuel quality issue. I did note in the maintenance manual that Jabiru do not recommend any additives in fuel regardless
-
There was a recent report of a Jab using it in the US, had severe detonation on takeoff. Apparently he had mixed it to the correct ratios and was using Avgas. Switched back to straight Avgas and the problem went away. You may have to be a member to find it but just search for Decalin https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/jabiruengines/

Thanks DJ, I contacted McNaughtons.. they only have slotted head in the size I want but will do for the interim until I have enough for a bigger Wicks order! Cheers
