  1. I wonder if the day in court that is mentioned is related to the Telstra tower at The Oaks - anyone know how that went ?
  2. I noticed on Aviation Advertiser that Polo Flats airfield is for sale. looks a reasonable price - great opportunity for someone - must get my Lotto in !!
  3. We just got back from a similar but shorter trip to the centre - absolutely magic - particularly Coopers Creek, etc. What I would like to know is how you get such good photos - my wife took heaps but only a few came out well !! Yours are so clear.
  4. re the above Camden info - there are heaps of mistakes in the new ERSA - including 1500ft for class D - according to the briefing we had on the weekend. Until the next ERSA there will be notams covering these - so don't forget to read your notams if overflying Camden. From memory the actual top of D will be 2000.
  5. I will be there - but vintage motorbike mounted rather than flying. They have a new feature for the crowds for this year - two arenas where classic and vintage cars and bikes will be doing display laps (slowly of course). If you see huge clouds of smoke its probably me on my Douglas !
  6. Matt, the TBO for these seems to vary greatly - the Bear site says 1500 hours. I have heard as low as 800 but not 500 ? Most info I have come across is similar to : - What is the TBO of the M14? My Russian log book states this engine has an assigned "service life" or 2250 hours - this is what we would call TBO. It states an "overhaul" each 500 hours. But the translation of the Russian "overhaul" is really what we call an IRAN or Inspect and Replace as Necessary. There are reports of this engine running as a generator for 10's of thousands of hours. The M14 was designed to be run full out in unlimited aerobatics - it's going to last a long time on your Moose.

  14. From what I understand it has certainly become rather a lot busier since circuit restrictions were put on at BK ! Camden has them as well but only during current tower hours. Closure of Hoxton has contributed to the increase.

  17. Wouldn't want to do what I did to my sons RC aircraft last week (nose first) - bit expensive ! Very impressive
  18. My understanding from what CASA has written is that the towers have to be manned 7 days per week, daylight hours so Camden will be tower all week at the latest from April 2010
  19. We were taught our formation flying in high wing and have a team that uses high wing - its no big deal really the differences - its whatever you are used to. There are a couple of manouvers you can't do in high wing such as belly turns due to the visibility. Its all fun though !
  20. Maybe there is an secondary effect of the carby heat other than the expected hot air that works in his situation - it certainly wouldn't provide hot air from an unstarted engine ! However it does usually reroute the air intake and provides unfiltered air so maybe that changes the mixture enough in that situation to fire at cranking revs ? Just a thought !

I have sailed competitively since I was about 8 - VJs, 12 ft skiffs, VS, B14, etc. Went into non-spinaker boats for a while (Laser, Tasar, NS14) but our club hosted the Sharpie nationals this year so I got one of those - very nice (under-rated) boat and good fun. Sailing and flying definitely go together - I did my TIF on the same day as another sailing friend. Having sailed seriously for so long made the aerodynamics and weather subjects easy for flying !
