1. Well good luck from me!! I had a hell of a time getting mine (C1) and a HUGE expense (read thousands and thousands) but, after 6 months they finally got their act together and issued it and I've not had a problem since, wasn't for sleep apnea mind you, was for a heart related issue. I've just renewed mine for the 3rd time and they have just used the previously submitted documents. As for the cost! NOTHING is covered if related to an aviation medical. I even had to pay for the blood test
2. Thanks andy for the heads up on the area range. As for being fit for commercial ops, what is meant by that is not a heap of junk. Something good. As for being in VMC. The AC will be NVFR rated so if I was in IMC the non TSO'd GPS would be the last of my issues!! Lol And sucks about no RNAV. I was hoping to use it for practice. The price of them means that it would be a little while off anyways I think
3. I don't see a 495 on the website but I assume the 500 would be the new one?
4. Hey frank, thanks for the reply, I've already got the mini 3G with OzRunways which I had told the CP and after that he has still asked fir a portable, not sure why but I'll ask. I've not used OzRunways in flight as of yet but played with it in the car, and I've used the flight planing and plates and what not for about a year. I'm thinking it might be company policy.
5. Howdy all! I've been told that I need to get my hands on a portable gps unit, problem is I've never seen one let alone used one as I've mostly had a G1000. I've checked out the gar in website but buggered if I can see what the difference between them is or how the work. What I'm after is something fit for commercial ops, with map, airspace, ETA and other Infomation like GS etc, terrain would be nice but not a requirement. Also I'm not sure if they are RNAV compatible but would be lovely if so (for day VMC ONLY), and anything else that don't know about that would be required. So, basically I would like for someone to give me an idea of what's what or how to go about seeing how they work. And I do have a preference for a Garmin but will consider others Cheers
6. In NT at the moment and a tempo every afternoon for VRB25G45 1000 BKN010 SCTCB020. been interesting while camping!
7. Now that they have had enough time they might be able to answer some of the questions put to them!
8. Great for procedural things, as is a real sim. As for flying skills, pretty much useless. I learned how to use the G1000 on Flight Simulator and the basics of IFR flight, was good for that.
9. + 1 for the no W+B required in the AC. Cant honestly think of once Ive taken it although it has been done for most flights, cant say all tho, if ive known Im flying the same AC with the same weights ive left it
10. Well, that's the MECIR ticked off yesterday, 3.2 hours with 5 approaches and half an hour in the sim for the DGA, ATO was quite happy with the flight, had to harass him to say anything bad at all. Doing CPL in Monday and as long as the weather gods allow the flight to go ahead I'll be back off to cairns Tuesday! So now it gets a little serious, if anyone out there wants to put on a hardworking new CPL let me know!
11. Well considering that only a matter of weeks ago that they were not able to answer some fairly basic questions about the changes, ild think it's a good thing.
12. Now that would be nice!!
13. We do around the 6 hr mark usually a few times a week, that defiantly takes it out of you (especially if there is IFR/CTA) but 8! Wow, that's allot
14. Eletric as well?
15. Started flying this a few weeks back. Lycomings and g1000 glass panel. Not bad overall so far but apparently has a few quirks from the changeover the did from diesel but a can't tell so far
