  1. First paid was an ICUS flight, first light deaprture Alice to Kintore watching to sun rise over the western Mac's with a couple of 130kg miners. Quite like the flying around alice. First command was a department of health run from Tindal to Bulman. Alice flight was a fair bit nicer!
  2. If he gets in contact with the North Queensland Aero Club they are now doing both RA/GA, maybe if he can get enough interest out of them they may help him figure it out.
  3. If it was GA she would be good to go! Maybe the ginger beers could hack at the blades with a file for a bit first, to give the PIC some confidence
  4. I use 1.3 Vso (weight corrected VREF) around 75kn MTOW) as the speed to be at around 50-80', but, the approach speed will be well above this (90-100kn turning final/2nm final) and slowly reducing speed down final. Keeps the speed up for most of final and if windshear or turbulence is encountered easy to keep the speed up a tad.
  5. I got mine off eBay, without a scratch and with all the paperwork for a touch under $500. Buggered if I was buying a new one.
  6. If I was to buy something cheaper the citizen nighthawk I think? Would be a good buy. It's in the dumb end of the intelligence tho.
  7. I use the Tissot T Touch ll titanium version and love it! Not a smart watch but not stupid either. Has a timer, ALT, thermometer, compass and the rest. Large digital display for UTC and other features, analog for local. Bit more then the Garmin retail but see a few bargains secondhand.
  8. Hey guys, had a bit of a listen last night!! Good work, awareness of aviation ain't going to hurt.
  9. Ah sorry mate! Not how I read it but can see it now. I still use standard weights but only when I know I'm well under and in balance. Saves me asking, or having to weigh pax, and can do the paperwork before they arrive.
  10. From caap 235. What I left out for simplicity is the caap recommends under 7 seats it not be used in practice for W+B
  11. Care to elaborate there pots?
  12. Not sure what RA use but standard pax weight would be 86kg
  13. One running charter up here. Can't say I've herd anything good about them apart from jokes. No time on them tho.
  14. After that drive home, I reckon a beers in order.. She's a bit wet!
  15. You sure there is a difference? Between polies or vegetables that is.
  16. Hey Kunnas, slightly off topic, Killing time before my medical, where in town can get a decent coffee?
  17. That's an easy one, spend less, tax more. Problem is no one wants to hear the answer.
  18. FT, at this point the neighbours dog is probably the best candidate. I'm quite interested in pilotics (actual pilotics not the dribble we have been feed since about 2009) and am quite happy to say that both sides are rubbish at the moment. I voted for Mr Newman, this has really peeved me off. I would have liked to work for the company some time down the track. Since I started GA, Barrier and now skytrans have gone, neither helping me move home. The feral gov tho, well one side is at least making it appear they might be doing something.
  19. My next vote goes to the party the has the best chance of considering aviation as a valuable and essential service. Not holding my breath.
  20. Meant to be the best thing for a headache. That, and coffee. Don't much like coffee
  21. Although I sit on the right, I cant and never have been able to see the sense in selling assets, expeciatly when they profit through turnover (NSW Lotteries in example). If the government was in the business of making money wouldn't that mean less taxes? Yea a free market is awesome but public services, surely the government should be doing that? Maybe I'm just a simple pilot and don't see the big picture the "more intelligent" pollies see.
  22. And one would hope that's checks and scrutiny weren't based soley towards bottom dollar.
  23. What's my middle name?
  24. Best value for money would be keeping as many tax paying employees in your state, more in the long run/big picture stuff. Also, the folk North of Cairns would be asking the value of their tax dollar today I think.
  25. Isn't that talking of a tropical storm as in a tropical low? Not TS?
