  1. Bit late to this thread, haven't had the time to keep up, but, as I type I'm sitting in a storage room in the office of one of our lovely aboriginal communities ( one of they fancy ones with interweb), about 10'by10' packed with all the stuff that has been broken, just finished a $7 pie that is guaranteed to make its presence known again on a 6hr wait and split shift. I'll do a duty of 13hrs today to earn my wage which I found out yesterday puts me below the poverty line (which is $800 per week I read) after my previous income being more a day then I earn a week now, and it's will be 40 something in the shade. And I wouldn't change it for the world, I can't remember the last time I went to "work" I just see a day of being able to FLY! It's great to read everyone's stories and remember that beyond everything we do this for fun! Even tho sometimes it has its moments.
  2. Must have had a bit of a head wind.
  3. This would be one of the harder situations, weather enroute mixed with a bit of get homeitis and then a demanding approach. You really need to make sure you are certain all the T's have been dotted so to speak. As for the red bull. I avoid caffene throughout the day (still can't wake up without one) as I find that my attention span will be Limited although more focused ( flat out busy achieving nothing so to speak), and in a demanding situation I find I'm less disciplined. Other seem to swear by it. One thing I find harder then others is a break throughout the day. If I fly early morning then nothing till late arvo I struggle to stay focused.
  4. They don't care about human factors any more, they are more interested in you're English comprehension of their stupid TEM model. Really peeves me as human factors COULD be a really interesting subject with allot of important information. But it isn't.
  5. Experience will fix allot of the inattentive issues but not all. I pick a point in the approach where I'll "put the brain into gear" so to speak, normally passing 6000 for me. At this point I'll do a slow and thorough "flow/scan" around the aircraft and note what is left to come ie flaps/fuel/gear/pitch ect. After this its all about the approach and I know that I've not forgotten anything. With this if you are tired you have limited what can be forgotten and what is left to think about but, most importantly got the brain back into gear.
  6. Ive no idea what it means yet but, im pretty certain that they aren't trying to charge me less money...... Somebody needs to pay for the Part 61 that the industry demanded?
  7. First resumes to go in the bin in the 3 industry's that I've worked in were the ones with a photo, cant speak for all tho.
  8. Because they may not even know they are speeding since the tolerance for speedo's, if it hasn't changed very recently is +-10%, and they do drive under WELL under these days. Last time I visited the old man in Sydney I spent the whole time doing 60 in 80 zones, and people breaking approaching GREEN lights nearly hoping they went red, because of these new(not so new any more) safety cameras. Seriously, the joints becoming a joke, couldn't be more glad i moved out of the joint. You are right about people pushing the limits on roads with slow limits, I set my speed off my GPS +5% on some roads, particularity out this way where just over the boarder its safe to do 130 and on the same road here with the same traffic its dangerous, go figure. On another note, the NT brought in speed limits on the Stuart (130) and noticed an increase in the accident rate, ended up trialling unrestricted again. Fatigue being more dangerous. Rant over!
  9. Favourite roads... Got to be, Captain Cook highway Palm Cove-Port Douglas and Montague rd Adelaide hills, anywhere in the hills in reality.
  10. Bugger!!! And I though I was in the sticks!
  11. On YouTube Marty
  12. I've got the Zulus and use the Bluetooth every flight for AWIS, spotifty might also be on after the climb checklist is complete
  13. +1 For the Tobogan, pretty good GA AC for a 4 seater. Lovely in a Xwind
  14. I was at the pub enjoying a cold beer and having a good time!
  15. Bob Tait would be the best starting point and then for the more advanced, the Manual of Met IMO. Tait is a little easier in the earlier stages to get your head around the concepts. Bob Taits PPL Book covers all the 7 subjects in a good amount of detail for a noncommercial pilot, but you can buy the stand alone Met book as well
  16. There has been two in the last that I'm aware of. Not sure what stage of flight tho.
  17. All they have done is move the legal responsibility for training on new types SEA, and now MEA into the industry, no longer do they say (MEA) 5 hours endorsement training is enough to meet the required standard, may be more, may be less, CASA aren't putting their name to it. But yes their are still single engine types that require a rating. Haven't seen the list but sounds like all turbine AC.
  18. In my eyes darwins law should be enough.
  19. Yea, I think I would like to do one of the following. A. Try out those strips.B. Fly mountains terrain like that or. C. Fly weather like they have showed, just don't know about all three at once and doing it 100hrs a month to make a crust! And they haven't even showed the DME homing approaches yet that I've seen.
  20. Makes 600m in a C210 look like a walk in the park! Never felt his lucky to be able to fly in oz!
  21. I thought a couple of hundred hours was the service life of a Jab? (Jokes)
  22. Scre. I did my training out of Parafield and you're right it is some beautiful flying there. I would recommend getting as many hours before May as you can, as you know the weather that way gets a little tricky for VFR and it can mean months on the ground in early training. I've got 6 weeks on the ground twice in my log book from the winter there and we flew 7days a week, that's allot of canceled flights!! Apart from that 1-2 flights should be fine. In a perfect world I would have liked to fly Monday-Wednesday-Friday
  23. One of the Brisbane schools (maybe Redcliffe ild have to check) have a C210 online, be a better option then the C206.
  24. Maybe another issue but, I've never been able to get the TAF by selecting the WX section, I've had to select the aerodrome through the aerodrome "look up" then select FAC, and then select the little weather cloud at the top of the screen. Is that standard?
  25. If you're paying $300 to fly RA then it would be cheaper to fly GA on most basic types at schools that don't offer VET-FEE. I was looking around for an aircraft for a renewal and found a C182G1000 for not much more than $300.
