  1. Was that long ago Yenn? They are more expensive now.
  2. I renewed mine in Feb and, the CASA mob had the cheapest price.
  3. Ild happy enough have either of the last two!
  4. My renewal would be return with a weeks accom in London and a £100 bar tab!! Fingers crossed I won't have to pay for it again tho. And on top of all that I've got flights from the Kimberley AD return and accom whilst there. :(
  5. Cheers Crezzi/Pots. Both points there rule it out as also wasn't a review but, my initial IR. I knew it wouldn't be as easy as I was thinking. Looks like I might be up for a twin to beat around VFR coastal. :/
  6. Cheers Frank. Yea last BFR was in a twin and haven't flown anything smaller then the 210 since. I'll call them Monday.
  7. That makes sense! Lol
  8. Not quite sure what your point was there octave, but we are talking about land aeroplanes,I don't have any float time.
  9. Thanks for the replays guys. What I'm more trying to work out is if the will accept my current GA one which was 18months ago and if my RA cert being 5 years out of membership would be an issue?
  10. G'Day all, Quick question, i did my RA Cert back in 2010 ish and since then haven't kept my membership current as i fly GA. Im off to Adelaide for a MECIR renewal, if I was to renew my membership with my GA BFR would that get me RA current again legally or am I missing something? (Quite aware that I would need a flight for personal currency). The old man is going to come for a holiday there and meet me and I would like to take him for a flight but would only be able to hire a twin from where I am doing my renewal by the looks of it as I wont be "single current" in their eyes without doing a "nav" with an instructor. Second question, does any body know if there is a VHreg Jab or similar around AD? as this would obviously eliminate the issue. Cheers
  11. He must have just missed it I think because you have covered a good point that the author should be made aware of!
  12. My C1 medical has had bugger all to do with psychometric testing... Hows also not doing psychometric testing of RA guys going to help? Idiots.
  13. God forbid that they look at any other company's in any detail. What about the clapped out 50 year old twins that are the alternative and are what are used in the other states?
  14. I couldn't agree more! The idea that the first 40od hours of my GA training was spent with guys with 300TT or under now scares me! I think on the GA side there should be a X amount (I believe X should be 500PIC but ive never had anything to do with instructing apart from being a student) command requirement as I believe there is with choppers? I dont believe that the current set up does justice to the students as most instructors are "teaching how to be a commercial pilot" something that most haven't done and that no 300TT instructor has done. A good mate of mine rang me the other day all excited because he had "cracked the 300mark", all well and good for him but, be has 60 hours instructing to make up that 300, just scares me a little.

  16. Somehow I think we're all trying to say the same thing here just backwards!!
  17. So the story that I used was trying (maybe badly lol) to point out that even tho I was legal, if I had of run out of fuel for any reason (strict liability) it would have been my fault. I don't feel that there was a safety concern on the day otherwise I would have diverted. IF the arerodrome had of been US due a disabled AC for example, I would have got drilled even tho I had complied with all regs. To note, I am under no pressure at any time to carry less then the regulated required fuel and if there is excess payload I'm under no pressure to carry min fuel to save money because in a piston it makes little difference. And I would get shot by the boss if I was to use less than the min. BUT part of being a pilot is being able to maximise payload/range so if it is legal to depart in both WX/fuel then it is reasonably expected that you will but not expected that you will out fly your capacity in regard to WX. Also, aircraft performance is usually more of an issue here with very high DA's short strips and wind shear an every day occurrence so normally the safer option in my opinion with our flying would be less fuel. That normally for me would be min fuel + 15-20min depending on how I'm feeling and the length of the flight, we usually burn about 2lph under what we plan and that is above the required VRB reserve. The thing with the Pel flight is he DID as I do and carried all fuel that was required on the weather that he planned his flight on and if my memory serves me correct, wasn't till after his PNR that he received updated and deteriorated weather, so there was nothing that he could do. Now with CASA's hindsight they have said that he should have carried more fuel, kinda like saying that we all need to carry full tanks when it's CAVOK incase a firestorm hits and in that case it would be safer. IF that is the case then it should have been regulated like that in my opinion OR leave the pilot alone as he was legal, had all required fuel based on the wether at his PNR so continued. Now it is a while since I watched the first one so might watch it again tonight as some of that might be wrong.
  18. I think to your question is yes. They have seem fit for different ops to require it and from what I understand if it wasn't aeromedical ( airwork) there would have been an alternate requirement. It's hard to justify something that isn't illegal. But, it does depend on, if the flight was payload critical or not. If he had weight available yea, a bit for mum and the kids but, I doubt thats an alternate aerodrome so might not have made much of a difference.
  19. Frank I aggree and might not have worded my post the best! The point that I was trying to get at was, rather then enforce greater fuel, CASA have left it open for aeromedical flights to not carry island reserves and then have shafted him on the strict liability side for running out. I agree that obviously had he had an alternate that accident wouldn't have happened but I think it is sad for him that he was "legal" (airmanship aside) and still held entirely responsible for running out. Had it have been required, then you don't have the worry of the next pilot being happy to proceed with a flight that you weren't.
  20. When is it ready/Need to go? I know of somebody traveling that way this weekend that might be able to do it
  21. Unfortunately Frank, CASA have agreed with you, and, made it of strict liability. Doesn't matter how "legal" you are, if you run out (After 4 missed approaches) its your @r$3 in the drink. Kinda made me rethink how many flights we do that are on min fuel (over half) But, i don't like the idea of telling the customer that we are going to have to fly longer legs to allow a fuel stop or explain to the CP why we lost most of our work to a competitor who is happy to run on min fuel. I did a flight last Friday and had a 7min margin, wasnt even 20NM into the flight 420NM when a new ARFOR AND TAF were released now with holding requirements for both the destination and suitable alternate. So what to do? ive already departed with valid WX not requiring it, if i return for fuel ill have to kick out a passenger, if i divert en-route it would be a $500 loose to the company as I hadn't quoted a fuel stop and I wouldn't like to see the bosses face if I had said " I'm perfectly legal to continue but thought best to spend $500 of the company money on obtaining more fuel". Not my words but how it would have been taken. Obviously I continued and it was CAVOK all day, as it will be 99.999% of the time, last night is a nice reminder that when the 0.001% does happen which it will, that I better make every decision exactly right because someone will work for weeks if not months to figure out if I could have done anything better and in the case of last night conclude that, you should have carried more fuel even though you weren't required. Also nice to know that everybody else will run and hide behind lawyers quick smart. Ps sorry about the mistakes/grammar etc. back space isn't working on my computer
  22. Ngukurr would be my fav. Pronounced nooka or nooga depending on who you ask.
  23. Oh dazza where are thou?
  24. You just need an army of lawyers the size of CASA's to interpret it.
  25. Just for my own interests, does that op hinder a medical?
