  1. Thanks frank!
  2. I thought a pack of CEO's would do exactly the same as opening a packet of balloons, make allot of nose but not really do anything at all...
  3. Any luck itch this yet? Can I update??
  4. I was only covering this the other day with ground school over wether you can " legally" join right base for a left hand circuit. You really need to go through the CAR and also the jepps as it is all a little muddied. But remembering that a CAAP isn't law then it's pretty much all bets a off except for 166
  5. An orbit is a turn....
  6. No turns opposite are allowed once in the circuit area. Never had to orbit OCTA but reckon I would go around and join midfield any try it all again if I couldn't get it slowed up enough http://www.casa.gov.au/wcmswr/_assets/main/download/caaps/ops/166-1.pdf
  7. Maybe it's something that we (or people much more qualified then me) should try to do something about on here, because, on weekends sometimes its nothing more then annoying hearing calls that, aren't just a little sub standard but are long winded and unnecessary. Now, I'm not having a go here at the majority but think that the minority should have been shown better in training and have slipped through.
  8. That is exactly what NOT to do... Make only required calls ie base. When they make their inbound calls respond appropriately and give what information is required to separate yourselves... As for en route, don't forget that these guys are IFR and will when available get information on you so don't think that because you were not aware of them that they are not of you but most of all DON'T do what is listed above. Apart from sounding like a wanker everyone will probably ignore all of your call instead....
  9. I find the sim useless for anything "flying" related. Even just this morning I was in a multi million dollar sim couldn't hold heading or altitude because I couldn't get it trimmed out and have been told that "it's just a bit like that". Mind you for getting to know the avionics ect and of course IFR procedures its great.. . I still can't get my head around a circling approach in the sim because I've no visual reference to height.
  10. Any examples nong? Not knowing the answer I went with servo, my thinking was never hearing of spring tab that it sounded too good to be true and thought at the time that a servo tab could be more effective with speed. Think it's funny that vie not been able to get any of the instructors to answer it
  11. Did you start out up that way HH?
  12. Cheers planey, Definitely committed enough to getting there so now "just have to do what it takes".As for age I'm 26 so not old but not much time to waste either, can't afford to get paid peanuts for too long. Had quite good weather here recently so looking good to finish next month and speaking of steps I had my first IMC flight 2 days ago!
  13. G'day. I've got a question from my Aerody exam that has me and a few others stumped, ill put the question and answers up and see what you guys think You have a form of tab that as speed increases travel decreases. What is this called A. Spring tab B. Servo C. Balance D. Anti balance
  14. Lateral stability around the longitudinal axis, Longitudinal stability around the lateral axis, Directional stability around the normal axis, If I've got it wrong so do allot of others
  15. Just the medical for GA (c1)costs more..... Don't get much for it other then a lifestyle lecture!
  16. An "aviation expert" said on sunrise that in the last 10 years that this type of occurrence had happened 52 times. Not sure if its correct. I agree that a full investigation is warranted but the media hype is what is a load of ----
  17. If you have access airside I've been told..
  18. Wouldn't exactly call it "mid-air catastrophe was averted when a traffic collision-avoidance " but a case of the system doing its job, separation of 1000' isn't much either when you think about size and speed. ATC DO make mistakes like anyone else so it's up to us and in this case aircraft systems to still be alert as to the situation
  19. No camera and CTA so a bit tough. What have you planned? Some great costal around Sydney
  20. Thought you would get one at Mareeba?
  21. Love it! Do it as much as I can. Usually one leg each flight, saw a shark of the coast on today's
  22. Here is one that is in taits book. What is the limiting factor to increasing power out of a piston aircraft engine by increased RPM? A. Something ridicules B. Something worse C. Cylinder head temperature D. Propeller tip speed
  23. Can tell you they are not, I've never seen tests as bad. Hard just for the sake of it and not on content on tricky wording and double negatives. I've been around engines my whole life and got 75 in AGK, mind you some of it was stubbornness as I had 2 of the same questions at PPL level and couldn't bring myself to put the "right answer"
  24. Cx4 is 120 kn on 50 from memory.
  25. I've been to a few meetings and most of the guys AC were 700+ kg and much faster. One guy had a Glassair with a TSIO 540 from memory, over 200kn jobbie from memory
