  1. I'm not familiar with Fusion 360 other than reading Autodesk's description of what it can do. I know it can do stress analysis for example, but how are you determining the flight loads to feed into the stress analysis. Having the software work out stresses once you've entered the loads is one thing, but how are you then deciding what are acceptable stress/deflection limits etc. What about flutter analysis? What sort of performance do you expect the aircraft to have? I'm asking because I'm curious, not because I want to come across as critical. You've spent a lot of time and effort to get the external shape looking great, but I'm just wondering about the engineering design behind it.
  2. It looks very sleek but I'm curious as to how you are doing the structural and aerodynamic design and what materials you plan on using?
  3. My prop is a Sensenich ground adjustable and pitch is set while it’s on the plane. Your looks quite different but I’m sure someone here will know how to adjust it.
  4. I don't know what prop or pitch adjustment method the Sportstar has, but on the RV-12 we're told to try to get the blades set to within 1/10 of a degree of each other. I use a digital level and bracket that clips onto the prop.
  5. Ocean Infinity must be fairly confident if they're prepared to roll the dice on a $70m fee. Hope they find it.
  6. Don, from what I understand North Dakota overall is pretty solidly pro-Trump. You obviously have a different opinion, as most of us here do. What's the general view of Trump in your neck of the woods?
  7. Some of those number look a bit optimistic. 160kt cruise and Vne=220kts on 78 hp? 1,000nm range on 19 US gal? Service ceiling 28,800'?
  8. There's always room for you and the project over here, Don.
  9. He'd make an exception for himself and waive the tariff.
  10. If you’re near an airport have a talk to the flight schools or FBO staff. They will be able to answer a lot of your questions.
  11. Round trip from where to where? More to the point, why buy a plane with all the associated hangar and maintenance costs when it would be cheaper and easier to hire a plane and pilot when you needed to. Also, this is primarily an Australian site and assume you are wanting to fly in the USA?
  12. He may have to settle for gold spray paint if he wants to go joyriding before he gets dumped from the White House.
  13. Impressive aircraft. Very sleek design and a top speed of over 400 kts is very fast for the time.
  14. If they are pushing on with the RV-15 development I assume that's a sign they are on the road to financial recovery.
  15. Can’t do any harm if your tiedowns are a bit dodgy.
  16. One trick I've heard about but haven't tried is to lay thick rope along the wing to break up the airflow and the lift. Sounds plausible.
  17. Just came across this interesting old video. Not sure if it's the same as the one in the original post that has been removed.
  18. Thanks. Didn't know about the re-registration. His last aircraft, a Dyn-Aero MCR-01VLA (VH-SIP) was unfortunately involved in a fatal accident at Serpentine in 2020 after a partial power loss.
  19. John and Marguerite Chesbrough flew London to Sydney via Perth in Mooney N6201D in 1982/83. They started in Houston originally and crossed the Atlantic to North Africa and Europe before that. John was a member of SABC at Serpentine until he passed away a few years ago. They wrote a book about their journeys called `By Compass and by Consolan'. Consolan was a long range radio navigation system similar to the beam systems the Germans used during the war. The Chesbroughs used it to navigate across the Atlantic. /../../favicon.ico Consolan - What Is It?, March 1961 Radio-Electronics - RF Cafe WWW.RFCAFE.COM During World War II, the Germans developed another kind of radio directional broadcast system called "Sonne," their word for "sun," because of the radial antenna pattern it generated (see plots)
  20. Ah, yes, Alan Bond. Shared a lift with him once when he had an office on the top floor of our building. Was also was fortunate enough to set up Australia II for display (and all the other exhibits including Jon Sander's yacht Parry Endeavour) at the WA Maritime Museum. Interesting times, but well in the past now.
  21. If it was my choice I’d prefer something with floats but unfortunately you’ve got to work with what you’ve got. He did pretty well in the circumstances.
  22. Losing one life is bad enough but losing three is a tragedy under any circumstances. That’s one reason I generally prefer to fly alone, especially if the passenger is a trusting non-pilot who is relying on your skill and your aircraft to get them home safely.
  23. Well equipped instrument panel. Not the typical RV12 setup.
  24. A bit long-winded but what an achievement.
