  1. Done & remember the trick is to make yourselfs more vocial to council, than the group of residents that are complaining. Good luck its a great airfield.
  2. If you have a decent air compressor get a pneumatic palm sander with soft pad cuts the work by half.
  3. Rd Im a spraypainter I paint mainly aircraft now as oppossed to cars, it doesnt matter wether your painting a car or aircraft the preparation process is the same. Dont use paint stripper on fibreglass unless you real know what you are doing & make sure the stripper has a low caustic. Start off with sanding using 180 grit may take a little longer but keeps the job cleaner & smoother. once the paint is removed or feathered out go over with 240 grit. The surface is ready for primer.Using the finer grade of paper reduces the the amount of high fill primer. Time spent preparing the surface gives a better quality paint job. Remember one thing paint does not fill scratches or chips it only high lights them. Hope this helps.
  4. As I was reading Heon post I totaled up all my invoices from the build of my Xair Hanuman 4 stroke total was 42 gs still an affordable build & its VH registered. It has a Jabiru 2200.
  5. Just head up the lane way to patonga & come back the same way.
  6. I was there on Saturday I thought the ground staff & parking this year was well orgainised having color coded area was great idea. Yeah their was a large area vacant around from the Piper stand to Xair which left a bit of a void not sure what happened there? I think the area to work on next year would have to be the food outlets I was suprised not to see Rotary or the lions clubs with their BBQ's & maybe a couple of cafe stalls spread around the site. All in all I had enjoyable day came home with a bit more knowledge & an excellent insurance package that has saved $$$. As Bubble Boy mentioned the Rag & tube type aircraft are they becoming a thing of the past, I counted only three stands Xair & Skyranger,Quicksilver (I will stand corrected if I have overlooked some) that had rag & tube type machines the rest were all composite, all very nice aircraft & with a heafty price to go with it. I would hate to think that rag & tube type aircraft under 50 grand maybe fadding into the past.Im sure there still would be a strong market for this type of aircraft. I would be happy to hear other peoples views on this
  7. Henry Im building a xair registered VH experimental although this kit is pretty basic build compared to all metal builds I have had 2 inspections from technical councilor through the saaa just so if there might have been something over looked on my behalve. At the end of the build I apply for a CofA where it will be inspected by an aurthorised inspector. The technical councilor does not have the authority to sign off on anything it is just a saftey measure put in place by the saaa to help you through your build. All this info can be found on the saaa web site. Cheers
  8. Bendix King AV80R great price easy to use had mine for over a year now great little unit.
  9. May be spend less on fire works & put funds into projects like this?.
  10. Wollongong has the aviator resturant pull up & park walk straight in great meals.
  11. I use 3m masking tape in my spray booth this stuff has no silicone in it. Wouldnt use any other brand.
  12. Armoral has silicone it as well. best polish is bees wax use it all the time in my work shop. cheers
  13. I flew out there from Mittagong but the cloud layer over Cowra was too thick circled around a couple of times ended up turning around & headed home. Must say there was not much radio traffic on Cowra ctaf like previous years.
  14. Great show well worth staying up for.
  15. One way to help secure your Airfield espescially if you are in a rural area is get the RFS involved they are all ways looking for air strips for their fire fighting aircraft, & it makes it very hard on the local council & Water Board Catchment authorities to close an airfield.
  16. New Jab 2200 $14500 + $1500 for installation package, Rotax 912 $21000 Didnt ask about the installation package for the rotax as I fell off my chair & the phone come out of the socket.
  17. RAA may be bigger but CASA holds the power? I think we should change that!
  18. just had my medical on Friday $75 casa fee $99 for the doctor hadn't change since last one 2 years ago. Cheers
  19. There is a Xair STD with a 912 powering it in the USA, not a viable option though the cost of the 912 & you dont get any increase of performance due too weight, Plenty Xair's with 582 & Jabiru. The Hanuman has a folding wing which is included in the kit, The Xair STD wing doesn't fold but it is easily removed. If you go to www.randkar.fr look under videos there is a short video by an Xair dealer it shows the Xair STD wings being removed.
  20. There are a couple Xair STD in the UK flying with BMW engines. To fit them in a Xair they had to manufacture a new engine mount & a fair bit of mucking around to install. Just another option!.
  21. I think he may have meant $7000 for a new engine 582 rotax may be????
  22. Hi rgmwa Im a spray painter I have done a number of aircraft send me a email & I'm quite happy to talk to you. Cheers
  23. You need to do your PPL theory exam before you do your first solo nav. Cheers
  24. Hi rgmwa just a correction on the GFPT you are right about the solo hours, but you must have 3 landings & 3 take offs within 90 days or you will have to go up with an instructor to be current again. I use to when I was getting close to the 90 days just go & do an hours worth of circuits which give me the 3 take offs & landings saves paying for a 1/2 hour check ride with an instructor. cheers
  25. I was thinking like you a couple of years ago now, I just went & did my PPL, If CPL is where you want to go just do your PPL straight up either way its going to cost$$ especially when you start your NAVS & CPL isnt any cheaper. Hope this doesnt discourage you. Cheers
