  1. Can vividly recall enroute .....wife's bustin for a pee, so i divert emerald, make all required calls, join circuit downwind **, notice RPT taxying from terminal towards holding point, me being an obliging gentleman, i call him and offer to extend my downwind leg to let him get away......he says its Ok, he'll hold, so onto base and finals i go, thinking here, i decide to land looong, rather than normal and putt putt along the runway........holding him up. Touchdown fastish, tar strip, zip past the RPT that's holding, brakes applied.....SHYTE, pull harder........bigger SHYTE, runway end is looming, brakes fading bigtime, anyway all ended good........just. Memories / nightmares............don't ya just love em.
  2. tried to edit this.....but missed the opurtunity. So.....i am in no way advocating my short field takeoffs technique as SAFE........it works for me, better experienced folks here may shoot me down, so be it.
  3. Andy....a jab can get off surprisingly well, full flaps, instant full power, stick neutral, 40ish kts, and heave the stick back, really back, as soon as you break ground level off, stay 1m off the ground, or less, ( ground effect ) increase airspeed to 60+ then commence climbout, nice and steady, don't touch flaps till you get reasonable height, then retract them SLOWLY. ( 100....150m liftoff every time, that's half decent....yes/no )...... well i rekin it's ok. Short field stopping..........not so good, and too good brakes are bad at times.....grass, you lock up, and just shudder like hell down the strip, knowing you should release all that pressure.......but hey, that fence is getting reeel close, pull even harder, stop ya barstard, stop. ( should i shut the engine off to aid stopping, should i power up and get airborne, why the hell did i try landing here.........please god, let me stop, promise i'll never do this again. )
  4. bill.........this last 12mths we've clocked up 120+ hrs, zero circuit stuff, all point and go, tiger country every time. The times we bump into another traveller it's another jab, apart from GA folks, yet some folks just gob off re jabs. invite them to tag along in their ???, then the excuses begin. Not for a moment do i think i've fluked or just got away with good luck, service them right, control temps, and any point around Oz is yours for the taking. ( this is where the fight began )
  5. Yes, i know they're tight, real tight. i've had a few flats over the yrs, breaking that bead bonding can be a real pain to get the tube out, so i wipe a smear of lanolin along that bonding area to help remove the rim half, when i again get a flat ( i'm a glass 1/2 full guy ) ....so running low air pressures is iffy.
  6. "AN" bolts............mitre 10 for me
  7. if too soft, there is the chance of skidding the tyre around the rim, pulling the tube with it, and tearing the valve attachment point. especially on tar. I run 25lbs to be sure......and yes they're a lot harder than 6 ply, double the groove depth etc...........they look real good. ( $90 each wagga bikes ) Downside..........bit of a pain fitting them to the split rims, but that's now sorted......and they fit under jab spats too.
  8. A huge loss, a genuine wealth of knowledge, that was shared to us here. Read his departing comments, and ask yourself...has the "bias" changed. Lure him back........hell will freeze over before that. One or 2 here can take blame for his departure, they know who they are, regrettably, they don't give a toss. Email the guy, and others, that have departed this site, taking with them, their expertise, I know for a fact they will answer any aero questions you may have.
  9. Many guys do, all report good. That's a fact. Now you pop up and say crazy...... Based on what ?? ( facts please ) I'll go with the users group...sorry.
  10. A lot of guys ...more and more, are adding upper cyl lube, or 2stroke oil into their fuels. Sceptics to begin with....converts now. It does aid engines, 1 chap decided to pull heads etc off just to inspect after some hundreds of hrs, it was spotless inside, rings were all free...thanks to moreys. I too, can vouch for moreys , I've got one happy engine.
  11. query.........these quick connect aux power source thingos..........they're 50amp rated, max. Seems to me this is too low for a jump start scinareo......( melting wires etc ?? ) Have purchased one of those "jump start" paks.........400 cold cranking amps. Kincrome...12000 ????. theyre about the size of a paperback novel, weigh zip. Chap out remote swears by them, even starts his backhoe tractor.
  12. I see the Raa has issued ( finally ) the " advice " for inspections. The way I'm reading this, it's a one off check, surely this can't be right. Strange logic.
  13. I knew that.......was checking if anyone here new :cheezy grin:that as well. GraemeM........me fishing might need refreshing.......but aiming me cross hairs on a 5cent piece at 500m is still awsume
  14. Agreed about the viz bit, it's compromised. Hence, fabric comes down 350mm approx only, ( attached by Velcro to the cross beam near the top of the screen ... When not needed the bottom is swung up to the roof, and Velcro holds it away up there......it's working well. ) it's about where a visor would drop...my eyeline is well under the bottom of the mesh when it's dropped. ( might Pattern the brilliance of the master piece ).....if that's how you spell the word....Patton,patern,patin, Payton..could go on .
  15. System just installed into jab 3300, I think chap has also retained the original carby install ( backup ) I understand he may have had same setup on another craft, which worked great. Injectors are plumbed into inlet tubes, right up at the heads. Can't be too far off firing her up......interesting. ( they're a 12v system......if, 12v fails for whatever reason, re engage the carby system ) I'm keen to see the completed project.
  16. http://www.sdsefi.com/
  17. Mounting.....in my case, awkward
  18. I'll drop in again and get the product details..
  19. well well, was driving past a "trendy" curtain place today, popped in, asked questions, came out with a perfect fabric. Designed just for sun control in our houses. A meshy style fabric, held it up to full sun and i can gaze straight at the sun, deflect my vision from centering at the sun, and i can clearly see through it. Bloody brilliant stuff. Now to setup a mountng system in the jab, can't see a prob.
  20. If you wana fly around the wind sock....anything will do. But.....if you wana go places, only a jab will do:oh yeah:
  21. There is a chap Townsville way, has done the course at Rotax factory, ( Europe somewhere ) he's keen to take on work. ( i've got his details somewhere, standby ) Am told he's real good.
  22. i'm cracking up:roflmao:
  23. has anybody found a product that sticks to our screens ( window tint ).....local screen chap says perspex is not a good material to attach to. Would like a strip across the top of the screen for those early morning easterly runs. ( maybe a pull down blind ?? )........anything
  24. No turbs, I'm not concerned about excess oil in my jab, ( 15.....20ml hr ) have accurately monitored now. I was puzzled...why do we use oil, compared to autos.
  25. Have been running subaru car engines in my gyros for umpteen yrs, latest was a soob ej25, they run 4000+ all day every day, use zero oil.
