  1. This last 12 mths or so,I've done a fair bit of gallivanting about, ozrunways have the means for you/me, to add notes to strip locations for other travellers to read. This information can be invaluable.......but at times, so inaccurate. One poster, googles away happily, finds a "strip" measures length via google tool, then proceeds to post his information on ozrunway. Twice now he has been wrong, really wrong. I'll not name him, but please mate, stop your practice. So folks......be careful with posted info of far away/ remotish strips, even some local council strips. Hope the person involved is reading this..
  2. Ycab Saturday , nose wheel collapse on landing , one of those "Sting" craft.....I think it was. No injuries. Trailered it off strip...( flying school owned ) Query.....are they light on in that dept...??
  3. Isn't jab investigating itself, and going to produce " their report " Bewilds me why for example.....Camit submit a "report" as well.....hell, they've been onboard from day one, and have proven mods addressing issues.....drop this report on casa's desk and let's see what happins. This current "survey" whatever that jab are doing, from what I'm reading here, it's a damn joke.
  4. Same guy......he and sheryl separated few yrs back . Geoff.......spot on pal. Life is becoming more and more hectic...........newspapers, TV, daily dramas / violence. Now we got road rage, just to name another . Job insecurity, kids and drugs, it's just relentless. There are/ is, a friend of yours out there......not coping.......talk, talk...RUOK He/ she may need you, that eyeball RUOK just might open the door.
  5. Ok, to stop ongoing inputs as to the "why " ..... Was not machine, environment, or....pilot error. The reason was pre documented . ( guys, seek a best mate, and if needed talk, really talk ) I'm done on this matter. ( damn, what a horrible day )
  6. I knew Ted well, go back many yrs, he lived Mt Isa for many yrs, then about 7 yrs ago relocated back near Brizy way, had a small acreage there. He designed / built many gyros, he flew them with such skill. How this has happened bewilds me. Sad news indeed, sad news. Russell Cook
  7. I'm hoping that's a joke.......unreal
  8. How about the fitting of a Rotax type donut under the prop.......just asking
  9. Dear Russ Thank you for your email responding to the invitation for comments on operational limitations being proposed by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) for aircraft fitted with Jabiru engines. The proposed measures are precautionary and intended to reduce the potential risk of harm or injury resulting from possible Jabiru engine occurrences, until the causes of these occurrences have been identified and addressed. CASA has circulated the consultation draft to provide operators and other interested persons with notice of the actions CASA is proposing to take, noting that no action has been taken yet, as well as an opportunity to comment on those proposals, and offer any suggested alternatives. CASA has been looking at data and reports about Jabiru piston-engine failures for some time. In the course of that review, problems related to Jabiru engines that have stood out range from full and partial power loss and in-flight engine shutdowns, to rough running and oil leaks. CASA has identified more than 40 Jabiru engine problems and events that have occurred in 2014 alone. Mechanical problems that have been identified by Jabiru include through bolt, valve and cylinder, and fly-wheel bolt failures. The contribution of particular kinds of operations (for example, student training) and maintenance-related factors to some of these failures has yet to be determined. Jabiru, as the manufacturer of these engines, has certain obligations under the relevant International Standards, and civil aviation safety legislation in terms of the identification and rectification of such engine problems irrespective of when they occurred or what may have caused them, and CASA is working with Jabiru to arrive at a solution. CASA will consider all comments received on the consultation draft and the discussions held with Jabiru (which are ongoing) before making a final decision on any operating limitations that may need to be imposed, as a precautionary measure in the interests of safety. In the expectation we will receive constructive and informative input, CASA has extended the consultation period by an additional 7 days to 27 November 2014. At the conclusion of that period, CASA will assess the information we have received, in conjunction with other information available to us, and act in accordance with our obligations under the Civil Aviation Act. Your input will be considered in the process of determining the nature and scope of such operating limitations as CASA may ultimately decide need to be imposed in the interests of safety. CASA fully appreciates that the imposition of any operational limitations will affect Jabiru and the many owners and operators of aircraft fitted with Jabiru engines. As an Australian-manufactured engine, CASA has special obligations in relation to Jabiru. CASA’s intention is to help ensure that safety-related problems associated with Jabiru engines—mechanical, operational or maintenance-related—are identified and addressed as quickly and effectively as possible. Yours sincerely Steve Neal Office of the Director of Aviation Safety Received today, apparently I raised my concerns, hence this reply
  10. Plexus works a treat.....not the other one ( forgot it's name ) apply plexus inside and out, Carefully. Most good marine shops sell it.
  11. 40 incidences.........ok, they've stated that, now give me the breakdown of that figure. Bet me left ### , that 40 were not caused by a common component failure, ie valves for example. Yes the engine needs attention, ie Camit R&D facts, but running out of fuel, tipping it over on landing etc etc etc, are " incidences" for sure. Bet this scinareo is in their figures to claim 40 incidences.
  12. It has been mooted, that this whole sorry saga of poor pre attention to genuine facts/ numbers etc etc, which has now destroyed brand jab, savaged values , could spell the deathnell of some schools/ clubs, this saga has potential for a " damages" case. Hearing of one owner seeking advice. ( high profile firm, likes class action matters ) might get interesting.
  13. Turbs......I acknowledge a lot of jab owners have some horror stories, genuine lack of customer support as well. Bruce is just saying " he" has had a good run, as many others have had a good run. Linking that to he and others in denial of the jab failings, is drawing a long bow. Often....often, I read of great excursions all over/ around Oz, blistering hot locations at times, all done by very happy jab flyers, and keen to find their next sortee, Can't recall at the minute, of multiple stories of non jab flyers doing similar trips. I own a jab, I've done a few " tiger " runs, all good so far, more to come, that lurking thought of engine failure is there, and I don't like it. Attention to precise engine condition is paramount, before we head off, as is heat management enroute. Increasing my lower cowl lip, has made a huge difference to temps. And running upper cyl lube....I think helps as well.
  14. F-T.......my read is Bruce has good experience with his jab, that's it, period. Why you came back with ????? Puzzles me.
  15. McCullocks..........owned one, my right arm is 2 feet longer than my left arm, just trying to get it started ( hand cranking the prop )
  16. So....my 160C ( type certified ) should achieve "TBO", therefore I have "recourse" if it goes pearshaped. Maintenance log fully up to date, all work LAME done, AD's all done, no signs of overheating......fuel avgas 96% of the time. Too good to be true, then again, I might be way off here .
  17. I think you will find "PM's" in systems like this one, are not " private " at all, third party, ie owner/ moderator..maybe, would have easy access to read contents. Ian, would you mind clarifying this point. Russ ("As a moderator I do not have access to PM's. I have access to posts on the site but not the messaging system." one of the mod's...) Thanks for the moderator point, leaves Ian's response to PM access.
  18. Note to Ian: Nothing subversive intended Ian here and no criticism implied re the site. I'd just like your assurance that private messages are just that. I think you will find "PM's" in systems like this one, are not " private " at all, third party, ie owner/ moderator..maybe, would have easy access to read contents. Ian, would you mind clarifying this point. Russ ("As a moderator I do not have access to PM's. I have access to posts on the site but not the messaging system." one of the mod's...)
  19. Query......after a thru bolt upgrade, is that issue no longer an issue ??
  20. Chap my way is currently fitting EFI into his 3.3 Camit. I don't have the details, but easy as to do, and PROVEN.
  21. Damn....there goes a good man. This sites loss. ( probably not the last either )
  22. What " right people" are you referring to merv. Jab have from day 1 snubbed their nose at everyone. Casa , well what expertise do they still have. Raa now seem to have publicly distanced themselves from the frucus ( mails telling us members to voice our frustrations to casa ) thought Raa was our voice, and their role was promoting/ defending etc our privileges . That leaves Camit, as far as I can see, out there on their lonesome, just might have " the fix " but being targeted with threats etc from jab........so, who's talking to who, got me stuffed.
  23. Recreational Aviation Australia (RA-Aus) met with Jabiru and CASA today (14 November 2014) in relation to the recent proposed actions by CASA that would affect owners and operators of Jabiru aircraft and Jabiru powered aircraft. RA-Aus maintains its stance that the available data suggests that Jabiru engines are more likely to fail than a comparable 4 stroke Rotax engine but insists that our operators should be free to exercise their informed judgement and assess the risks for themselves. We also question whether the CASA proposed remedies are the best action to take given the risks posed. RA-Aus feels that the meeting was constructive and has outlined a way for Jabiru and CASA to address the risks highlighted by CASA in a manner that will minimise the imposition on aircraft operations. Jabiru and CASA have committed to working together to arrive at a solution. In the meantime RA-Aus once again encourages all affected stakeholders to contact CASA with their views on the proposed restrictions and to engage with other appropriate parties to escalate their concerns if they wish to. As per our earlier advice the relevant contacts are: The Minister for Transport, the Hon Warren Truss, [email protected] Your local federal member details can be found at www.aph.gov.au with state and local details available at the relevant government website. Lee Ungermann of the SASAO office within CASA can be contacted at [email protected] Please include [email protected] on all correspondence to CASA and members of parliament. Reported data for 2014 year to date (January through October) Jabiru Rotax All (includes other engine types) Hours flown 41834 71626 131227 Landings 92735 145638 260383 Engine failures (full or partial) 28 16 51
