  1. The "autogyro" ( gyrocopter.....gyro plane ) was birthed, and from that helos evolved. Somewhere.......I read, the jet ranger was second to none, hrs flown re incidences. And that was over many yrs of history checks. Mate owns a Canadian Kiowa ( army jet ranger ) great brute of a thing, cruise 90ish, at 90L per hr.......yikes. ( good for approx 3hrs duration max ) He "works" to pay the rediculous running costs. ...loves his helo.
  2. WTF ......has me bamboozled as well Alf. Back on topic.....let,s now wait for the findings.
  3. I don,t know what caused this incidence, perhaps weather was actually not a factor. The release of details will be at the appropriate time, as this matter is processed. I too wait to hear the details. Being a fatality, I would expect "procedures" to take some time, as they have done in the past. Can recall a matter that was tied up in the courts system for about 2 yrs, before release of details was permitted........so wait it is.
  4. No more speculating needed as to the cause, onboard gopro with last 10 mins of flite, confirmed findings. Report will follow at the appropriate time. Russ
  5. Speak for yourself..........I'm unique:roflmao:
  6. Statically, the average Australian family is 3 and half members.....I think. ( read it somewhere ) Go figure.....
  7. Ok, are they any good. Suction mount, or fixed mount. Best locating point Dooz and dont's Best deals ? "She" wants one.....
  8. No turbo, they don,t get involved. With any fatality, the coroner etc are involved. As to weather reports.....sorry to say most guys just look up, that,s about it. They know where/how to get the reports etc, but don,t bother. Weather report on the Telly night before, would be fairly norm. However.........slowly, more and more lads are pre planning their intended flight, and this is good to see.
  9. They do handle rough weather, better than most.......but..... There are times when it should stay in the hanger, too many gyro lads believe that gyros are near on bullit proof, which then lures pilots to engage in conditions that far exceed the pilots capabilities. Training,training,training.....geez, could I harp on about it. Same scinareo with general flying, gyros yank and bank, reeeel good, again too many pilots exceed their own capabilities, pushing the envelope, and they get bitten. I,ve trained many a gyro pilot, at times, many mths down the track, I observe him pushing the envelope.....that,s when we have a quiet talk.......a serious quiet talk. Complacency .....that,s another demon that lurks about........with some folks.
  10. Unfortunately it is true, as I post here, 2 asra inspectors are travelling to the crash site, where as always, they conduct an extensive investigation into the cause. The outcome can be delayed at times, if they need engineering reports on any components that they deemed suspect. Fatal incidences involving gyros, are painstakingly investigated by asra, no matter where it has happened, and their findings are released, contrary to some gossip out there. Often.......the releasing of a report is delayed due to legal requirements, sometimes the courts/ coroners, can delay the release for 12mths or more, while the matter goes through their systems. Yes....sad day, thoughts go towards his family members.
  11. Learnt lesson yrs back, always call intended fuel place during the working week, and get correct info, found often that fuel chaps are more inclined to waive fees if you is reeeeel nice to em beforehand. Cloncurry stung me bad after 4pm on a Friday. Exact time was 4.40pm. That was my last fee sting. ( plan was fill tank, camp under a tree, head off 1st light in the morning ) The refueller chap was council employed, and bending rules was not going to happin. He actually showed displeasure of perceived rich pilots flying about the countryside. Trying to engage with him, was just not happening. ( fee was $200 for memory )
  12. Just a quick query guys...."..week or 2 hence, I'm heading south, filling oil level to top of dipstick marker.....to allow full sump for normal engine burn over long legs etc. why I'm asking is a lot of folks say just fill to lower marker, which is my usual method. But doing extended legs may be a different matter.?? Somewhere ?? I read fill to high mark, and your engine just shoves it out into the overflow bottle?? Thanks Russ
  13. As soon as they are "certified" I will be ordering one....no if's or buts about it. 2nd wish.... Would love a cert comp prop on my 160c as well. 3rd wish.....stop me leaking doors ( work in progress )
  14. "Aviation ID" it,s easy through them folks. And getting certified copies, just take the lot to your local court house, costs nothing, easy as. They compare your copy with the orig, then stamp copy and sign it off.
  15. Been Easter since Noah floated the arc, several times in more recent yrs, a joint gathering has been done at the natfly, interest shown was good.......but.... Rules / regs, etc etc that are demanded at natfly, caused some frustrations of gyro flyers. Traditionally for the gyro folks, the nationals also include a lot of yank and bank, mid field base / finals etc......spot landing comps, short field takeoff comps, slowest low leval beat up, flour bomb drop comps, etc etc, and of course, countless TIFS. All of this above.....and more, does,nt fit into the natfly scene. A gyro in experienced hands is full on yank and bank stuff, folks not understanding this, see these operations as dangerous, generally. That assumption is so far from factual, but common. The gyro of today, and the gyro of early yrs, is comparing apples to oranges, yet....we still have the odd home builder, trying to cut corners, reduce build costs, self train etc etc, those chaps do a great job at causing grief for the rest of the gyro community. I,m starting to waffle here......do yourselves a favour, jump into a modern machine, you will be seriously impressed.
  16. This upcoming Easter, commencing Easter Friday, finishing Easter Monday, is the Australian gyro nationals. Workshops, events, discussions, and of course.....gyros buzzing about everywhere. There will be numerous 2 seaters, so now,s your chance to grab a ride. Hotels....motels.....nearby, or camp at the strip, as most do. Fuel avail, catering etc etc. I hear you asking where...........Wondai, Qld. Just north of kingaroy, 35m. I'll set a cat amongst the pigeons, and rock up in me jab160, after 30 plus yrs owning gyros. Anybody.......will be most welcome, that,s guaranteed.
  17. Settings ?? Buggered if I know, it just works dandy
  18. I too are having problems with printing plans/ tables etc, contacted the folks, they are sorting the problem, keep an eye out for an update at the App Store. Bypassing the "print" option in oz, is easy.....take a screen shot, then print that....easy as. I take screen shots of my route, print them, then use them as my backup in flite....perfect. ( whatever is shown on your screen is what your printed backup shows ) Assuming you are using an iPad.??
  19. Reported on the news today,.....the 8cent rebate, is to be AXED, to zero rebate, effective later this yr. Govt is saying ....go and seek your own best deals with providers. Bombshell,.......the 44cent rebate, stays. Go figure.
  20. $9k for 3.4kw with 4.5 inverter. Panels yank land, inverter German, definitely not the cheapest quote, but checking whirlpool etc, reports were good, actually damn good.
  21. Telstra. .... utilizing the iPad with Skype is easy as , and skype per call is bugger all. Lock your ph into 24mths plan, all is good. Or, set your ph to min monthly plan, then install skype into ph.....off you go.
  22. You will love it........tip tho, ensure they fit door gutters, cost is minimal, but worth it.
  23. About to get talked into getting rid of our landline with internet plus ?? This day and age we all have our trusty smart phones, and iPads are common place. My iPad has a prepaid card $180 yr.......giving me next to unlimited data, throw in Skype and all is great. iPhone x 2 with $600 plus call allowance per month costs me $100 mth. So..... iPad plus 2 mobiles per yr works out at $1380.00. And, Disconnecting landline saves me $1980.00 yr. ( lass at Telstra tells me folks are doing exactly as above.........big time )
  24. Update....heard today that fed govt is about to re cost the about to expire rebates, ie 8 cents per kW. Mooted to now be around 14 cents per kW. Those that got onboard at 44 cents, are going to be re costed, to ??......a lot less. Those that went way over the top producing massive amounts of energy are in the firing line for the razor gang. How this all pans out, will be interesting.
