Here is my Dumb Question. Exhaust verses Noise Level
Bernie Knight replied to SSCBD's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
Summit engineering in the USA sell a conical shaped insert that is perforated, I ran one of these in each left and right exhaust pipe in my car and found a real reduction. There is also an auger plate that inserts into the exhaust on the inlet side of the muffler , these spin gases and sound back into the baffle Material. They are short and again in the pages of Summits catologue -

Snoopy I just eBay checked clear plastic acrylic tube and found a UK site that sells 10mm tube with 3mm wall it was available in 400mm lengths. I try that also, as mentioned I have a very accurate dipstick now and will transfer the numbers across. Will do a full re - calibration next fill as I will drain the tanks. In the interim I will play with the various wood options. -

Snoopy That's not a bad idea as my current dipstick is dead accurate so I can just transfer across I'll check it out - thanks for the link -

Old Man Emu I only wish, but need to convert back to inches to see if I'm impressed The better one I've seen is the black aluminium with punched numerals I saw the stick in the Pioneer Alphi I flew two years ago But I've got a few to try and get the best option -

Both the wing tanks are very shallow as are the tip tanks. My dipstick is about 250mm. -
scre80 Yes I spent the first few minutes clipping the canopy down. When thinking about it I can see the need for the extra clips. Enjoy it I certainly found it fun flying

BirdDog Great to hear your enjoying it. The collecting and flying back would have been a fantastic experience I'm looking at doing some big trips myself this year Enjoy

Yes I've used the iPhone only as s back up. I do have charts - all of them with me - but space in the RV8 is limited to open them out unless pre - folded I usually do my flight plan in pencil still, mainly for terrain and laying the full chart out. I know OzRunways have all the features, but I take the few extra minutes and I find it helps when following OzRunways - and looking out the window

Thanks guys for the options. I did get a message to use hard plastic and calibrate it. A few good options. I think my current stick is just a bit old - or my old eyes I had wondered about the black anodised dip sticks and availability, but will use one of the above options. A simple thing, but can get a little confusing multi dipping I've got a few options to try now. Thanks guys I just not want to re invent the wheel Cheers -
Capt Wally Yes back soon. I'm heading to Lake Como next week from Florence and may take a spin in the float plane there. They run a school also Yes the RV8 has 6 hours at 24/24 and if I pull it back to 19 I have 11 hours. Far exceeds my bladder. Hope to get back soon and get the RV8 up where it likes to be... Again good luck Damian and I'm sure you will take the best path. Let's know if you go to Gawler as it's a good trip for a coffee Bernie

Thanks Ian for filling in the blanks and correcting. I had forgotten about the RAMPC medical and it's just a visit to the local Doctor and not a DAME. Although I think doing the Class 2 is a good idea for older guys like me - apart from the cost I had forgotten about doing the English Language Proficiency where I sat and chatted for 10 minutes whilst the paperwork was filled in and paid out the dollars. Damian, it may sound complicated but once your into the process it's straight forward. The CASA paperwork for the transition is a bit involved but I'm sure the guys at Gawler can steer you through - CASA will send you a note if you miss any of the Forms Have fun mate Cheers

Camel , Vlad I was considering the wooden option as my current aluminium option is hard to read. I think Alpi use a piece of black anodised aluminium which is easy to read as the fuel evaporation as its pulled stays visible - level appears to be easy to read also. I'll soon cut up a small piece of wooden dowel and try it first though. Cheers -

Old Man Emu Yes good idea. I did see the plastic tube where you do that. I have my current stick to copy off. -
scre80 I've flown the Zodiacs a couple of times and think their a neat aircraft also. The one I flew had additional canopy clips that had been added. I'm not sure if the Zodiac issued a directive? Enjoy

Well done on the purchase. I'm also sure you will enjoy flying when you want and not having to book a plane. Not to mention the great visibility from the Evector. Enjoy your new baby and again well done..
