Where is the aircraft now and when where you thinking of getting it ? ground crew is a great idea, you could do a few short hops throughout the trip.

Seb, no probs, I'm a country kid at heart ( 43 and still just a kid ), I was always taught to help out where you can, I have holidays coming up in December but if before then, we can organise something. I built my own Fisher Mk1 from Wayne, I have another aircraft a Chinook 2s which I have just finished rebuilding, and I have 1146 hours in just drifters and more than 3500 hours total. I love to fly, but I know where you are coming from, I have 5 kids, a wife and en ex, so life is very full and money is very hard to keep. Let me know if I can help at all. Mobile number is 0408931040.

Just read the no xcountry endo, makes sense.

I did have a trailer, I used as a hangar for my drifter while I was in Newman WA, I used an old 27 foot caravan trailer, made a huge shell and then covered it with corrugated iron, I put a shelf on one side that took the wings folded with the ailerons attached, a two person job but kept it all out of the sun. I only used this for short trips to and from the field ( 50km at the utmost) until I built my hangar. The vibration and rubbing is just not worth it, if the trailer is open you will get a lot of wind buffeting and if the wind gets into the open end of the two wing roots you could be in real trouble. I'm happy to fly her anywhere for you, just get me there and home to Adelaide and I'm yours, no charge for the flying either, you just pay costs for the aircraft and a cold bourbon or three when I get to yours at the end. I did similar for a mate in Northern QLD, he sold his Kitfox and asked me to fly it from Whitsundays to Monto ( only 330nm ). The question is " can you not fly it yourself ? "

Where are you sandman ? I'm happy to help but I'm in SA !

Yep horizontal tail comes off and vert as well just to keep it from damage, a flat deck trailer is great, but if you can, fly her home.

All really great advice, definitely remove the skins and leave the engine on, just make sure it is tied in well, it will want to swing a lot. I took off the gear legs and used old car tyres to provide the cushion, I have a very strong basket on the roof, aircraft was backwards and I put a post on the bullbar to support the tail wheel end of the tube. Used a forklift to get it on/off.

I drove from Newman in North WA to Perth and then onto Melbourne with my drifter on top of my Prado, engine and battery still in the aircraft, no damage to anything, a few strange looks though.

I have many times, if it is a long trip, I'd suggest disassembly of the wings, take them off, remove the ailerons, remove the upper and lower wing ribs, remove the bolts that hold the wires ( label them all clearly ), with helpers, lift the wing tips and the middle of the two wings and move it forward, lay it flat on the ground on carpet or a big tarp or grass, undo just on side of the wings, one bolt at the front and back, now have your helper hold the fabric at the wing tip while you pull the wing frame out of the pocket. Then take out the other side wing frame, roll up your fabric, disassemble the wings and then your done. Call me if you want to chat about it, takes about 1 hour once you have done it a few times, 0408931040.

It's just some installs, mine works fine. iPad 3GS with the latest OZRUNWAYS and IOS7, good luck, the email said it should be sorted in a couple of weeks.

Often these big guys only use their inboard engines as the outer ones are low and hang over the non-sealed areas and can suck up all sorts of crap, should have stayed a bit further back perhaps.
-
Oh that would be nice, a sporty Foxbat on floats, I'd fly one of them. Very tidy aircraft and worth the dollars IMO.
-
Ouch, that will hurt, hopefully they have all been done before now.

Flapperons are useful but no so much on the drifter as it has a great stall speed and short field capability. If anything do some short field landing practise. If you want to change something, I would condider changing the ailerons to 2/3 aileron and 1/3 flap, but good luck and let us know how you go.

I would love to give it a go, and yes Peter, it was in jest and thanks for recognising that. P.S. please send us some warm weather.

Light Plane Crash Parkinson

Environmentally unsound, however I'll bring a shovel with an extra long handle for added leverage. -
Rgmwa, that looks like the foreshore of the Swan river, Langley park or something like that. I flew a C210 in there many years ago when the red bull came to town. I love WA, awesome place, fantastic people. Haven't been there for 10 years.

David, them there's fighting words ( I'm not saying I disagree ), did you have a rough day today ! I recall a well delivered spit I let go a few weeks back, stand by for the lovers to try and rip you a new one and the haters to jump on your band wagon. -

Well done I say, don't know what caused it to come down, but the landing surface is not that ideal for Jab wheels, they are free from injury and minimal ( APPARANT ) damage, well done. Pat ( not a Jab fan, but the aircraft frame is a real tough nut and protects the occupants well ) . -
Thanks for the spelling lesson !

A few misleading ideas here, once the "ident " function is activated on the aircraft transponder we will see the effect on the radar for as long as the transponder is emitting the ident ( typically 10 sec plus ), the SSR radar only receives there is no real transfer of data, this has nothing to do with primary radar at all. Camel, check the manual ( someone else idea but a good one) it will tell you how long you need to press the ident button to activate the feature and it may tell you how long it transmits for.

Country Airstrips Guide for iPad?
Patrick Normoyle replied to skyfox99's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
I use the iPad version well, I screen capture the pages I want then email it to my home PC and then print it there, this way CASA are happy I have the necessary information. I feel it is a great product but not delivered in a very user friendly way, it's not that up to date as there are probably a few hundred airstrips out there that are not in the publication. I also feel it is a little over priced for a simple PDF reproduction, it should be " buy it once and then pay a small amount to have it updated" . They should do more to get more airfields included though. -

About 4nm to the east of Proserpine on the Whitsundays, a great place with fantastic people.
