  1. A great day was enjoyed by all, especially the Grand Tour of the Mansion by the station Managers Karl his son Jake and the Owner Alec Russell. 14 Aircraft arrived with some who drove in which made up the 34 people who attended. look forward to a Jimbour Events Team invite to their next big event (A Long Lunch) at Historical Jimbour House. Unfortunately we were asked not to post any photos of the inside of the Private Residence.
  2. Just received confirmation that a grand tour of Jimbour House will conducted for us on Sunday morning at approx 9am. The station manager has requested that those wanting to take part in this personal tour, will be asked to donate $13.00 per head, that goes to the upkeep of the property. Everyone normally makes a donation anyway, so I believe this to be a reasonable amount in view of their generosity in allowing us to fly in and have the use of the property for our gatherings. Looking forward to seeing a great roll up on Sunday, weather permitting. Graham and Val.
  3. Everyone is invited to join us for this years Christmas Party Flyin Picnic at Jimbour House. We propose to set up our picnics in the gardens of Jimbour House as usual and enjoy the atmosphere of yesteryear with breakfast and High Tea together on the 11 th December, arriving at 8.00 - 9am. BYO everything, this will be a good Christmas get together and promises to be another memorable experience. I believe a Dalby Council representative and Jimbour events committee will be attending to welcome everyone. We are trying to organise a tour of this Historic House during our visit and will be in touch, as to progress. Look forward to seeing you there, Christmas theme dress. Graham and Val.
  4. looks Great, will be in touch when we are in your area next September.
  5. Do you have and photos of your Tecnam inside and out ? We will ke you posted about our trip closer to the time. Keep an eye on the screws that hold the wheel spats on, especially the rear ones as initially they came loose until I put some non locking loctite on them, all good since. Check the undercarriage mounting bolts into the fuselage and nose leg bolts as well which settle in after a while and need nipping up. I had to pack the battery in with high density foam as it was moving within the enclosure with only small blocks of foam holding it in place. Have also had some small paint issues around rivets and at the forward edge of the wing skins which needed to be touched up. Otherwise all good.
  6. Thanks Antonius, yes we have taken our Tecnam to Ayres Rock and other iconic spots in the past 12 months and enjoyed flying her very much. We now have 145 hours and very happy. Val and I are coming over to Germany on the 8 th Sept during a European holiday with APT Tours. Never know we may be able to catch up. Regards Graham and Val PS here are just a couple of photos, one is when we had a 50 knt tailwind heading to Broken Hill.
  7. Great welcome and Breakie at Childers today, a bit of a mixed bag with the weather coming home. Thanks to all concerned. Here are some photos of event.
  8. Aerial photo of the Saint, on the property of the events manager, QRAA while returning home to Brisbane after Jumpers and Jass Festival.
  9. Warwick - Jumpers and Jazz Festival / Flyin Breakfast. Qld Recrational Aviation Assoc put on a top Flyin Breakfast, attracting some 24 aircraft with most pilots and passengers being transported into Warwick township by the club, for Warwick's yearly Jumpers and Jazz Festival. With the trees, street poles, signs etc was adorned with jumpers, everyone enjoyed the atmosphere of live Jazz while checking out the many displays and markets before being transported back to their aircraft for the return flight home, in perfect weather. A great day was had by all, some stayed overnight for dinner at the Historic Samdy Creek Hotel, top food and company. Big thank you to the QRAA for a well organised event. As usual the photos say it all.
  10. 14 Aircraft arrived to the Gayndah Heartland Festival after an open invitation was given at the recent grand opening ceremony for the Gayndah Airport to all aviators by the council and events team. With perfect weather, everyone enjoyed the Markets at the Showgrounds with great food, music and winery presentations throughout the afternoon. The best was yet to come for all who attended the FIRST CLASS HERITAGE RAILWAY DINING EXPERIENCE We started our culinary journey through the North Bunrett, with pre-dinner drinks, from Kingsley Grove Estate on the Gayndah railway platform. Then on to a personal tour of the Queensland Sunlander train carriages. We were guided through the days of Qld train travel as we sat in the dining car , club car, and viewed the sleeping car and guards van ! complete with coffin carriers and dog boxes stationed at the historic Gayndah Railway Station...as if time stood still when the final rail service stopped several years ago. We learned that rail had played an integral role in transporting locally grown citrus, cattle and other agricultural products to market in Brisbane and beyond. It was a comprehensive walk down memory lane of how the carriages were gifted by Qld Rail and the problems the rail enthusiasts endured when transporting them from Bundaberg. It has been a huge renovation project and community achievement which is now major asset to Gayndah. Everyone had a great time enjoying 4 courses with local wines to match, followed by a presentation to the main contributors to the Gayndah Railway project. Rachel Chmabers the Gayndah Mayor and Renee McGilvery the event co-ordinator, also thanked the aviation community for their support for the new Gayndah airport, and attending this event Rachel advised us that she is going to introduce a staff member to be an aviation events co-ordinator within the council, to further support aviation in the region. We were also advised that the aviation community is especially invited to the GAYNDAH ORANGE FESTIVAL on the 29th April - 1st May 2017. Free transport will be provided to and from the airport which will organised by the events manager and Ken Mogg, owner manager of the Golden Orange Motel, call 41611107. Ken will also pick up visiting pilots anytime who want to call in for lunch or stop overnight at Gayndah. Local flyers that attended, Ralph and Deb from Murgon ( Burnett Flyers), Bruce and Carol, Brian and Kay from Pacific Haven, Rod and Lynda from Cooloola Cove and Graham and Liz Hawthorne, from Warwick (Qld Recreational Flying Assoc) and many others from surrounding areas. It is refreshing to see such support from an entire town and shire for anything flying and aviation in general. As usual the photos say it all, with the flyer of the Gayndah Orange Festival 2017
  11. Watts Bridge Poker Run photos, Very well supported by at least 25 planes. Big thanks go to Richard Faint and his many helpers. Perfect flying conditions, and a great adventure when flying into Kilcoy, Mc Carrons strip, Bradfields and Watts today.
  12. A great day was had by all who attended Jimbour House Flyin Picnic today. A good range of aircraft (15) arrived to enjoy brunch in the courtyard especially set up for us all by Jake (Station Manager) and his partner Candice who enjoyed a local scenic flight of this grand property. Everyone enjoyed the large array of food and soaked up the ambiance of this great Flyin venue. Weather was good with blue skies and crispy cool air upon arrival at 9am, which warmed up to a very comfortable temperature by the time everyone arrived. A big Thank you to Tanya ( Events Manager) and her team for inviting the aviation community to Flyin and utilities this grand venue. There Is a upcoming event called The Long Lunch planned for August/September which all flyers are invited to and will be posted when a final date is confirmed by Tanya. There is to be a new windsock installed in the coming weeks to keep the airfield in top operational condition. As usual the photos say it all. Again thanks to everyone for attending, see you at the next event at Jimbour House.
  13. Just a thought, have you tried it for an extended period out of the Jabiru, with and without external antenna ? My D2 runs on Aircraft power the whole time via the avionics master switch, which also recharges the units internal battery. I have to manually switch it off before shutting down. Just wondering if your internal battery is charged and supplying the correct voltage? Here is a utube video of the latest Garmin G5 which is the Garmin version of the Dynon D2 but possibly better for similar costs.
  14. I would like to invited you to the second Flyin Picnic / High Tea at Jimbour House, just North of Dalby see airstrip info to strip / location details. We propose to set up our picnics in the gardens of Jimbour House and enjoy the atmosphere of yesteryear on Saturday 25th June arriving at 8.30 - 9am. BYO everything, there are normally tables and chairs in the courtyard but bring a blanket just in case. This will be another great get together and memorable experience in an aviators dream environment. We will be joined by the Jimbour House events manager, Tanya and her team. Look forward to seeing you there.
  15. After another great breakfast at Murgon with Ralph and Deb we all departed and arrived into a busy circuit at Gayndah where we were marshalled to the parking area. We were met at the gate by the Mayor, Rachel Chambers and the North Burnett Council, David Wiskar who personally welcomed the flying community to the all new Gayndah Airport. We were given sample packs and an order of ceremony upon arrival, and at 10.30 the official opening and tape cutting took place with local government representitives ,Ms Jenjifer Howard and Mr Jeff Sweeney. Other airports in the Burnett Shire that have been upgraded are Monto and Mundubbera. The Mayor and council made a special mention that they wanted the aviation community to return and utilise the new airport facilities and attend events throughout the Burnett Region. To this end they will be advertising future events in aviation circles and confirmed that they will provide a bus / transport into town for groups who attend Gayndah events. We were offered transport into Gayndah to have lunch and look around town before we were returned to the airport for our flight home. Some of us flew home via Noosa and the Sunshine Coast for some radio procedure practise and change in scenery which turned out to be a great way to finish the days flying off. Gayndah should be kept in mind for that weekend away or refuel stopover, with both avgas and Jet A1 now available. As usual the photos say it all.
  16. Casino Areo Club - Beef Week Flyin was a great success, flew in after visiting Warwaick on Saturday just as the wind started at 10.30 which gave us a quick ride to Casino, see GPS ground speed. Arrived with little wind and much warmer temperatures. Russell, Debbie and all the Casino Aero club members were great hosts and provided pilots and crews great hospitality and service throughout the weekend not to mention the pilots dinner on Saturday night. The Casino Beef Week Grand Parade was very impressive and well supported by the town and surrounding communities. A very well done and thank you to the Casino Aero Club, see you next year. Graham, Val and Peter and Lynn. As usual the photos say it all.
  17. Pearo, here is Amberley Airspace info you may be interested in. https://www.raa.asn.au/storage/160304-raaf-amberley-airsapce-clifton-fly-in-guidance-poster-al1.pdf
  18. Here is another reference for you which maybe of some help. http://www.iainhosking.com/flying/doc/casa/vpg/archer.pdf Doug Mc Cullough and I submitted a flight plan yesterday to fly direct to Clifton from Caboolture this morning, unfortunately the weather made it somewhat dangerous, in particular coming home from Clifton. Our plan was to get the Brisbane ATS to obtain the QNH etc then call BNE Centre once airborn for a clearance and code, Amberley was inactive this morning and we planned to fly 4,500 up to Clifton and 5,500 for the return trip direct. We also intended calling the Amberley CTAF before entering as well, as per Amberley's procedures, when not active. Pity the weather did'nt allow us to proceed with our flight and had to cancel our flight plans and SAR time, as we were looking forward to more experience with Controlled Airspace procedures. Will keep you posted as to our next trip. Aplund if you want to PM me I will let you know of our recent and very positive experiences with ATC during our club trip North to the Whitsundays and Bowen and return through Rochampton etc. They could'nt be more helpful and made our trip that much more enjoyable and safe. Regards Graham
  19. Check out the "On Track" section of the casa. gov.au site, for procedures and hot spots around some main aerodromes Australia wide, may be of some help.
  20. BJK, sorry to hear of your Dynon D2 problem, I have not had any problems with the New replacement D2 that is now installed into my Tecnam. I have always used it with the external antenna and all my GPS heights read the same, eg Garmin, iPad and D2. See photos. Hope the external antenna works for you, very frustrating ! Keep us posted. Regards Graham
  21. Fly over once a month enroute to Dunwich and more recently to Evans Head, it looks it is mowed but recommend you call the resort for recent use and condition. I believe it has a $50 landing fee but this may be different if your staying at the resort.
  22. Jimbour House Breakfast Picnic today was an outstanding success with 28 aircraft arriving to enjoy a picture perfect day. Some locals and pilots drove in, as well as some couples flew in with period costume to take advantage of the yesteryear atmosphere. Over 60 people attended with many thanks to all that flew in and represented the aviation community to support this nostalgic and historic property that has a huge aviation history. We all look forward to the next event at this great Flyin venue. Here are some highlight of the day.
