  6. Talk to Reece at Kitepower Redcliffe, who has just shot some great footage during his gliding and recent flight to Orchid Beach in a 182 and knows all there is about filming editing etc with a go pro. Kitepower Australia (Queensland) 146 Hornibrook Esp, Clontarf, 4019 (07) 3284 1186
  7. Thanks Doug for mentioning the Cooloola Cove Breakfast and flyin, I counted some 50 aircraft, 10 of which were Savannahs. Here are some of our photos of the day and we too went home via Double Island. Well done and thanks to Rod and his many helpers.
  8. Hi guys, Just thought I would let you know that we are going ahead with the fly-in at the BP dam on 26-27th April 2014. Thanks for the input from several members. All positive feedback so we decided to move on this date as it suited most people. Any questions don't hesitate to ask. Deb BJELKE PETERSON DAM WEEKEND FLY-IN April 26-27 2014 Burnett Flyers are conducting their first weekend fly-in to a private strip on the edge of the BP dam. Lunch will be provided for on Saturday, camp oven dinner Saturday night plus breakfast on Sunday all for only $50 a head. You can fly in or drive in and camp under wing(no landing fees). There is also a grassed area amongst the gum trees to put up a tent. Here you can just relax, fish, swim or take a canoe for a paddle and the bird life is in abundance here. The airstrip is about 900 metres long. There will be ground crew and you can call them on 126.7 if you have trouble finding the strip. For further details look up burnettflyers.org or email us on [email protected] or phone 07 4168 6248. The strip is nearly north/south (18/36) and the southern end of the strip just beware of power lines off the far end if coming in low. Coordinates S 26.21.3 E 152.01.2
  9. May I suggest Archerfield Aircraft Radio, they have been great with setting up and selling us Garmin transponders for our Savannah's, very supportive and great service. Speak to Kevin, workshop manager/Avionics Sales on 32774500 or check the gear out at building 21 Archerfield Airport. A mate just bought a Bose headset, top of the tree headset, but I am very happy with my old but very good David Clark headset. Let me know how you get on, you should only have to buy one in your flying career. Graham.
  10. Yes, easy install in Savannah instrument panel. Looks and works great out of the box, all display and numbers easy to read in all light situations.
  11. Post Trutrak experience ! Took delivery of the Dynon 2 and after 5 min of a basic set task, it was ready to fly. Absolutely everything is included in the box re - Ram suction cup mount, in panel 3 1/8 " mount, AC charger and 12 volts external power cable, external GPS antenna , basically a plug and play unit. All features worked perfectly as promised. No extra equipment required or surprises at very similar cost. Very Happy, big thank you to Ralph at ASAP Spares Caboolture for great service and back up.
  12. As usual a good showing of people and planes numbering in the 20's, with the recent fire trail of destruction evident. Pat's 2 personal caravans were destroyed during the back burn operation, with her saving some personal items before the fire took it's course. See photos. All in all the airstrip and facilities were saved, and everyone enjoyed yet another good breakfast and get together. Much appreciated. Graham and Val.
  13. Happy your experience worked well, I and avionics tech was not aware of the added GPS requirement as per Trutrak advertisement of product, to utilise all facilities. Yes, the display was very good but as a emergency back up of primary instruments it just did'nt measure up, hope to have better luck with MGL or Dynon D2.
  14. Don't bother with Trutrak PFD Gemini, been there - done that, not mentioned in their info is that you have to slave the unit to a pacific GPS's to have the DG to work, even after trying to manually set it, was a failure. AH worked well, airspeed /altimeter relies on standard static pressure but unit read airspeed 10kts over, slip indicator refused to centre, spent a lot of time and money with patch cables to Garmin 795 GPS, advised to use new Garmin GPS data sender unit recommended by Garmin dealer, with ongoing communication with Trutrak and tech manager at Aircraft Spruce with no success, Gave up ! Speak to Mark Kyle re MGL unit or Dynon D2.
  15. Another job, well done ! Happy New year to you, the girlfriend and family.
  16. Yes, that's why I went the simple way of using a quality ignition switch block, but everyone is different as to their preferences of aircraft electrical and avionics installations.
  17. Alastair, have had no further problems with auto key switch supplied and recommended by local auto electrician, currently at total of 360 hours and approx 80 + starts since switch replacement at 140 hours in Savvy. Suggest what ultralights did to rectify his switch problem by quote, (install a new independent master switch, and nice big red led push to start button) otherwise replace with a high quality auto switch, take your old one in to a reputable auto electrician for a suitable easy install replacement. Let me know how you get on. GPuk
  18. Another great day with some magnificent flying machines at a well organised Gathering of Eagles Flyin at Watts Bridge Qld. Here are photos of a few of the at least 40 aircraft that flew in and were on display. A big thank from all who attended.

  22. The weekend started off a bit slow with a delayed takeoff time due to Fog at Murgon, once off at about 9.30 we diverted via Melany to a clear run into Murgon for their famous breakfast and get together. After topping up with fuel , Mark and I headed off for the final leg to Rockybar Station, upon arrival we were met with approx 12 other aircraft and the hosts : Liz & Dave See, Toni Fitzpatrick and Len Neal of the Callide Dawson Flying Group. Everyone was treated with lunch and most participated in a 3 hour tour of the Rockybar Station with its caves, aboriginal history, rock art and old Gold mines, one of the highlights for us all was visiting the R.M. Williams Memorial site on top of a nearby hill before getting together for a great dinner (country style) around a large dining table in front of a wood fired stove with a huge array of foods and deserts on offer. We heard many stories in particular the history of R.M. Williams by his son Peter and and were shown his original box of shoe blanks from which he made the first boots from for children up to adults, all in all a great privilege and honor to be invited guests into Dave William’s home, “who by the way flies a drifter for mustering”. After many flying stories we bedded down into the shearing quarters with a roaring fireplace, even with the station dog on our bed, Can’t get more country than that. Next morning we woke to another thick fog and a hearty cooked breakfast before a pilots briefing prior to departing to Cracow Station some 20nm away. A dusty departure and arrival and meeting our new hosts Richard and Sarah Cox and family who transported us all a short distance over a running creek to their magnificent homestead. We enjoyed a historic tour of the buildings some well over 100 years old and were then treated to a history lesson of the Crocow Station by Sarah followed by a very informative talk on the Cracow area with its famous Golden Plateau Mining area, aboriginal history etc by Bill Walker from 'The Brae' a nearby station closer to Cracow. We all said our goodbyes to everyone before departing our dusty strip for home Caboolture, 2hours 15 min later we arrived home a bit weary with smiles on our faces after what could only be described as a fantastic experience. The Callide Dawson Flying Group who worked so hard to make our stay so memorable, we say thank you. PS: Special thanks to Roger, Mark and Peter Williams and his station tools for assisting with my tyre repair on Our Savvy at Rockybar and Kerrie Western for her photo contribution. Graham Pukallus
