  1. I was there during the final 10 years or so of Austflight at Boonah. Many, many great memories. Wayne Fisher was there building, test flying and training on the early wire braced Drifter before the certification of the Strut Braced Drifter came along. Flew into Boonah a some months back for a breakfast with the Flying Tigers Club, And walked across the road to see the old hangar and offices where the Drifter Legend was once alive and well. Only cobwebs and long grass are there in place of a thriving business and Drifter flying school. PM me for further info. Regards Graham
  2. Great Day enjoyed by all, well done to the organisers and everyone that attended and supported this Fly In. Here are some photos of the trip and the event.
  3. [quote="Geoff13, I am giving serious consideration to maybe looking into doing some unusual attitude recovery training in the near future, although I am not sure how I will handle that. I do not go on ride the turn me upside down so my attitude may become short lived once I get into the aircraft. Hi Geoff, here is a good school at Redcliffe to do your unusual attitude training with, they specialise in this subject. You could also get your tail wheel endorsement while you are at it. Will drop there card under your hangar door today.
  4. Straddie Christmas Breakie, was another big hit with 50 plus aircraft arriving, plus a birthday party for Douglas Mc Cullough. Thanks again Pat and your team for another Top Event.
  5. 2 pairs of Bose A 20 for my co - pilot and me. Thanks Santa Val will be very happy to get rid of her old heavy headset.
  6. Yes, we hope the weather will co- operate on the 17th Jan. You are more than welcome to share in a day of flying and getting together in this special venue. Look forward to seeing you there.
  7. Due to bad weather, the next Jimbour flyin Event will be on Sunday the 17th January, the day after the Straddie Flyin. See you there.
  8. Your invited to join us for the First Flyin Picnic at Jimbour House. We propose to set up our picnics in the gardens of Jimbour House and enjoy a the atmosphere of yesteryear with breakfast and High Tea together on the 13 December, arriving at 8.30 - 9am. BYO everything, this will be a good Christmas get together and promises to be a memorable experience. Look forward to seeing you there.
  9. To my knowledge and from past experience the GA BFR is all that is required. I still wanted to do my RAA BFR, which I did with Mahl Oaks ( Fly Now) at Redcliffe to learn more from doing a flight test with a highly experienced RAA CFI and excellent pilot. The standards were both high and but achievable.
  10. Top Flyin, certainly one of the best we have been to, just landed back at at Caboolture , 11.30. Very well run and organised, at last count there were 27 aircraft attended with more coming in when we left. A lot of people were arriving by car which expanded the numbers considerably. There was a large range of aircraft types and a lot of catching up for everyone, it was great to meet up especially with old hang glider mates. Again very well done and thank you to all concerned, you have set a great benchmark for your next Flyin. Will see you there next time. As usual the photos say it all. G Puk and Val
  11. Dunwich Breakfast was popular again today with an assortment of aircraft attending. It was announced that there will be a breakfast on the 19/12/15, this should be a great Christmas get together for everyone. Photos the some of the aircraft that flew in today.
  12. I was taught, read and consistently hear that a straight in approach must give way to circuit traffic... https://www.casa.gov.au/sites/g/files/net351/f/_assets/main/download/caaps/ops/166-1.pdf Here is some general info. 6.7 Straight-in approaches 6.7.1 Straight-in approaches are not a recommended standard procedure. However, Regulation 166B of CAR does not preclude pilots from conducting straight-in approaches provided certain conditions are met. Pilots who choose to adopt a straight-in approach should only do so when it does not disrupt, or conflict with, the flow of circuit traffic. Paragraph 166 (2) (b) of CAR requires a pilot conducting a straight-in approach to give way to any other aircraft established and flying in the circuit pattern. Nonetheless, pilots conforming to the circuit pattern – particularly on the base leg – should continue to check for traffic entering along the final approach path.
  13. At Caloundra Airport today and spotted a New Highlander Superstol outside AMS 's Hangar. I had a general chat to one of the engineers who said they are flying the 25 hours off on this VH Experimental registered Highlander Super STOL Aircraft. I later spoke to Mark Radford ( Director of AMS ) who kindly let me sit in the aircraft and went through explaining the set up of this aircraft and gave me his initial impressions of flying it, all very interesting and informative. This is a very full on STOL aircraft but with a very good cruise of 85 kts at 4,800 and 95 kts at 5600 RPM, from a Rotax 914. I was very impressed with the workmanship and functionality and believe this aircraft is a top contender for someone who is serious about STOL Flying with good X Country attributes. I am looking forward to booking a flight with Mark when the 25 hours are completed, after which I am sure I will be very impressed indeed. Here are some photos, note : that there is some final trim to the luggage compartment etc to be added before final completion of this aircraft, for more detailed info call Mark at AMS Caloundra on 0414394754. G Puk and Val.
  14. After a weather clearance from on the spot pilots Mark Kyle and Bruce Mc Gill we got away not far from the main crew out of Caboolture, great flight up and back, and were met with a very friendly club with a great breakie. Here are some photos of the attending Aircraft. Thanks to the Isis Club for a Great Flyin.
  15. Check this out, besides the Naips Briefing, here is the weather reader now at 5.30, shows showers enroute through Gympie and a storm cell approaching Childers in the next few hours. Might give it a miss, me thinks .
  16. What time in the morning are you departing Caboolture ? We want to be there at 7.30 - 8am ish.
  17. I was Invited to go up for a fly in the new Legend at the Gympie Breakfast today, and thought I would put my initial impressions on the Legends site. After Scott completed the takeoff, we went out to the eastern training area at 3,500, we were flying in reasonably moderate thermal conditions which really showed up the aircrafts ability to cope with these conditions with relative ease. Slow flying was a delight and was surprised how efficient this aircraft is, I reduced power to 4,200 rpm and maintained straight and level at 85 kts. Minimal rudder required in the turns and general handling was crisp and predictable throughout the flight, the aircraft felt solid and stable in all the manoeuvres we covered over this short flight. Scott did the approach and landing which again showed how well behaved this aircraft is. Although similar to my Tecnam , the Legend has that race car feel and definitly more like a sailplane to fly, very light on the controls, yet just right. Cruise was easily attained at 100-110kts with 4,800 but due to the turbulence we stayed under 100 kts A delight to fly and something you could fly for hours and get out refreshed and relaxed. Thanks for the ride Scott, look forward to the next invite. Graham Puk
  18. I was recommended years ago from a veteran driver of convertible cars who swore by Kitten no 1 car polish to restore the rear windows made with polycarbonate and Perspex. Used it on drifter windscreens, Mazda MX5 windows and all aircraft windscreens, bike visors etc works a treat. Use a soft piece of flannelette to smear on and polish off.
  19. Sorry Geoff just saw your invite, I and possibly Val would be up for it in a flash. Will catch up next time we are at the hangar. Got a few surprise destinations coming up, especially Jimbour House just north of Dalby.
  20. Depends what you already have in your plane re GPS - EFIS etc as the D 100 would be the ticket, otherwise if you can get a D 1 that a lot cheaper as you don't need the G Meter and WIFI necessarily.
  21. Kyle Communications, post: 522728, member: 1910"]Graham Pukalus had his back to be fixed twice i think then they replaced it. Not sure if he still has it as he got a new aircraft Yes true, Mark but all good since Dynon happily replaced the repaired one, it had a faulty accelerometer. It pays to have back ups for your primary flight instruments to cross check correct operation. Working fine now in the Tecnam
  22. Another great Straddie Breakfast with some 37 planes arriving, great trip home, followed a number of planes who were at all levels up the Eastern Coast of Moreton, some reported pods of whales just out from the surf and dolphins in the shallows near Cape Moreton today. Picture perfect. Big thanks to Pat and her crew for a job well done.
  23. That is a good question Dazza... Who of the originals are left? I'm still here flying most days, no 000482. Graham Puk.
  24. Pacific Haven - Flyin photo Gallery. Well done to Bruce and Carol, great Gourmet Pizza's. Great to catchup with the Childers crew and Flyin visitors.
