  1. Hello all I am gong to attempt to start my training again after being constantly stoped by weather and work last year I decided to pull the pin until i thought I would have the time to commit. I am not sure it will work out this time either heading into spring / summer but I got the itch again. I have a choice of training in a tail drager or a tricycle aircraft. Now personally I love the dragers but there is something in me telling me I need to learn them both. So the question is do you think it would be easier to convert from a drager to a tricycle or the other way around. It will be a Light Wing in both cases. Thanks Marc
  2. I can only compare to automotive but if it has a proper pressurised radiator remove the cap and see if you get bubbles in the radiator. Classic signed of a combustion leak. If you have this leak it will allow water in the cylinder and blow it out the exhaust. Also check for oil in the radiator another sign of trouble. A sign of water in the oil is white gunk under the filler cap for the oil. The things you learn driving junk heaps. Marc
  3. Hello all there is a David Clarke H10-20 at the cash converters at Goodna west of Brisbane for $90 looks tidy enough could be a good buy for someone in the market. Marc
  4. In my Toyota you press the Start Button to stop it
  5. For all that are interested I got a reply from D-H today . Thee E-versions are in early planing and about 4 months away. Marc
  6. There is a preference with one of them because one of the columns is wider. It's the one I bought because it was recommended to me but off the life of me I can't think of what one it is . I think it may be the ATC one.
  7. This is great thanks for the link. It will be great for the times I have 3G coverage (most of the time). But the hunt continues for a offline copy. I also just read the copyright notice in the DH books and you are not allowed to make any copies. I have emails DH to see if they intended on making a ebook version I will post back when I get an answer. Marc
  8. Hello all. I have been looking around for an ebook version of the Dyson-Holland ground training manual so far with no luck. I would also be happy with an equivalent publication. I have bought the paper versions of both the ground training manual and the cross country but they are a big A4 binder and a pain to carry when I am traveling. I have thought about scanning them as a PDF and doing it that way but that is a lot of work one page at a time and that's all I can do with my scanner. If any one has seen one or has any ideas please chime in. Thanks Marc
  9. Ahhhhh I see your problem here. You should have done the upgrade at night don't you know that all the best it people are nocturnal.
  10. Wayne was the first person I went up in an ultralight with. It was his drifter in lismore. One of the best memories. All the best to his family and friends.
  11. As I say to all that complain about how restrictive the apple environment is and I am the first to admit it can be annoying. The benefit of having such a closely controlled environment is that it just works. No instability very small risk of malware and viruses. And the app developers must follow a tight set of rules that ensures that things run smoothly. I use an android phone and it is miles behind in the areas I have mentioned above. End off topic rant. To add something on topic I think oz runways is a great little app and I can't wait to get to the point in my flying where I can actually use it to its potential.
  12. No and no What I woul buy is an e book version or iPad version of my theory books for my raaus training. Carrying an awkward binder around with me is a pain. I think you need to be a special kind of aviation nut to buy DVDs of cockpits. I would rather spend the money on flying As for simulator equipment I just bought flight sim x for $22 and a reasonable joystick for $42 not a great set up but you can get set up cheaply. Aviation books. Yeah I would but as e books Pilot supplies. I probably only need a headset Pilot clothing . I agree jeans or even shorts if its warm are fine. Marc
  13. Try umart online for your sd memory. They have a few stores I think all in se qld. I think I bought my last 16 g class 10 card for my SLR for around 15 bucks. They do mail order also. Marc
  14. In my opinion this thread has been great and provided me with a heap of things to think over. Thanks to all that took the time to respond and provide there experiences and opinions. A good bit of heated debate to. I look forward to a thread that I am qualified to answer. Marc
  15. On a slightly less controversial note ice pilots is on 7 mate at 8:30
  16. Bruce thanks for the reply. Thats what I am trying to work out.
  17. Turboplaner Hi is was not wanting to sound offensive with the term Jab Bashing at all but from my perspective that's what I see in some posts. And seeing those adds tells me that I need to be educated in the subject Gentreau I think a little bit of emotive argument as you say isn't always a bad thing either. Isn't the reason most of us that try to get in the air at great cost is passion for the flying. Seeing someone defend there opinion with a little emotion is a good thing. Maj Thanks for the reply and I do try to read back through the threads when I can but I always seem to get stuck on the humour pages. It is a forum after all this site seems to get a heap of new members so rehashing topics that have been discussed before can't be that much of a sin can it ?
  18. I have been reading these forums for a while now and there seems to be a lot of Jab bashing going on. Now I have noticed myself in the RAA Members Market you see a lot of airframe 400 hrs new motor type listings. I have done a couple of hours in a jab and didn't mind flying it at all and there seems to be quite a few around that are affordable. So 1. Are they really that bad ? 2. If they are as bad as people make out what do you all think causes the issues they have and are the problems manageable? 3. Do they have any other big problems All opinions welcome I would love to here from Jab drivers seeing they trust these things with there life. Thanks Marc

    Pilots

How do you know there is a pilot in the room ?? He will tell you.
  20. With vehicle GPS the error Old Man saw would have probably been caused by software not the GPS itself. Modern car gps is quite intelligent to the point if you drive through a tunnel it will "forecast" your location in the tunnel until you pop out the other side based on your current speed etc. This software in most cases will have the posted speed for a given area stored with its maps. The problem with these is they are quite often wrong and don't account for traffic road works weather and my tendency to sit a couple of KPH over the speed limit. I think on my last drive to North QLD from Brisbane my car GPS (Tom Tom) overestimated the trip by 3 or so hours. I have no real exposure to aviation GPS as yet but it would be my assumption that all its calculations would be made real time keeping the data given to you quite accurate based on your current situation. But I am not sure how many people remember what GPS was like in Australia during the Gulf War i spent alot of time on the water during that period one minute your gps would show your location accurately and 30 seconds later it would have you 5 miles inland . I would never bet my life on GPS alone. Still a great toy Marc

    Hi

Phil I am a plus sized model myself and it is fine in the lightwing i had the same thoughts but i am quite happy with it only real issue is where the trim lever is i have to move my leg every time my instructor adjusts it. but with any luck i shouldn't have to deal with that for to long. As for the weather i cant say i have been working out at Chinchilla for the last week apart from the 130mm of rain we got in 3 hours on the weekend it has been ok here. Marc
