  1. Yes he looks as though he is at the stage where poking him with a stick could get you covered in unpleasantness!
  2. If you have an incident it MUST be reported to BOTH Raa and atsb. I haven't done one since the new Raa online system came on but I think it was going to make it a lot easier to duplicate (maybe it even automatically sends to both?)
  3. Yes I would say so. Col mentioned that their original mistake said 198 per 10k but it seems when they corrected their mistake and put in the decimal they added on some zeros:doh: and got per million instead of per 10k If you worked out 1.98 per 10k for say 250,000 hours per year you would get around 50 per yer which sounds a lot more realistic to me.
  4. 1.98 per million doesn't add up to me, as much as I would like to believe it. Those stats say there was 211,000 hours flown up to October in the year, so even if you said 300,000 for the full year (which on those figures is conservative) that would equate to only 2 engine failures in 3 years. That seems a bit fanciful if you ask me.
  5. DJ I in no way consider you an FW, for what it's worth I generally enjoy your posts and find them informative. I posted what I posted as an attempt at humour
  6. An FW is three models later than the FT. The FW is the more well known of the two except in some online forum communities where the FT is still very active. Both the FT and the apparently 'improved' FW are looked at with disdain by most but as disliked as they are the community just can't seem to be able to get rid of them.
  7. FT I'm more worried that you will spend all day photobombing each forum topic:sweat:
  8. Oops I meant torque
  9. Well I would've thought we would've known that without the pics, bex has always been big on talk:whistling:
  10. I don't have a lot of experience with political matters and very rarely keep up with the ins and outs of the differing levels of government but I do have an ingrained pessimism in regards to casa changing for the better. The thing that caught my attention when watching the vid was when the senator asked (can't remember word for word!) "why were they only restricted from flying over populous areas why weren't they grounded altogether?" And all I was thinking was don't give them any ideas! Anyway as far as I am concerned Yes it would be nice to have the casa held accountable for all their actions (not just the jab saga) but the pessimist in me looks at the past and sees unimplemented recommendations from things like the Forsyth review and it doesn't fill me with hope and wonder for the future
  11. Well I won't give that a funny asmol but let me explain. I did find it funny (I always enjoy jokes) but given the amount of pain that some of our fellow forum members have gone through I personally think it is a bit over the top especially in this thread and as funny as it is as far as jokes go I find it in bad taste.
  12. I've mentioned quite a few times on here just how important I think it is that we all put in some time in doing LL training. For sure 99% of the time most of us might not need it BUT the one time we get caught with a need for a 300ft circuit for whatever reason it could make a huge difference. I was always a well balanced pilot (no matter what others say!) at altitude and was always relatively capable in the takeoff and landing phases but with just a mild 10-15 knot wind my first ll turns were amazingly pathetic. We can't help the way we are wired but IMO a little ll training can make a huge difference in our safety in out of the ordinary emergency low level manoeuvres and also helps with the safety of our landings and takeoffs.
  13. In flight failure of a glass filter wouldn't be a big deal, well in the hornet at least, as all it would require would be to turn off the fuel coming out of the relevant wing. Of course simultaneous failure of both would require a precautionary search and landing within the 15 minutes that the header tank gives. Having said that I do now prefer the half coke can sized ones that I have and don't mind throwing them away at a 100 hourly interval. I do still have the improved glass one after the header tank, but the only thing that could cause it to fail would be glass breakage and if I get hit that hard I will be wanting to land pretty quickly anyway.
  14. Yes I believe they just aren't the highest quality Mike, but it doesn't take much effort to machine a little bit of decent stainless to replace the dodgy centre bit and then they are quite good. I definitely like the principle of being able to see fuel flowing!
  15. I'm in a hurry at the minute Scotty but just thought I would add this. It might be worth asking Ole about it as he changed my filters from the glass ones back to a more 'agricultural' sized steel filter after having one 'let go' and drain all the fuel from one tank into the fuse:-) He had thought before that that it only happens if they were over tightened but he had done that one himself. I still have one glass one near the pax ankle but he machined a new piece up to go through the guts of the glass and it hasn't caused any trouble. Anyway I gotta run will try and recollect a few finer details and come back with some better info.
  16. Remembering that is not daytime air temp but the temp of the actual material. Any colour other than white could hit 47 quite easily on a moderate temperatured sunny day.
  17. Not sure if it the same bolt but have a look through this thread of mine, if it is the same bolt I would say it is broken and will need replacing. Anyway look at the pictures and check the opposite side of the motor, it certainly sounds the same anyway http://www.recreationalflying.com/threads/rotax-914-head-bolt-failure.118178/
  18. Yes I think when mine comes up for renewal I will look a bit more seriously at the premium. I don't need the IFR stuff though so will weigh up the costs when it is all due. (May I think) seeing as my renewal is due in May I only had to pay 13$ for the remainder of my subscription time for the AOPA airfields but I didn't take note of the exact cost for the year. On a side note it was immediately available, as soon as I filled out the details on their website I opened up ozrunways straight away and it was all working.
  19. I just logged onto ozrunways website and found the AOPA airfield directory there as an extra subscription so I added it on and now Texas and a lot of other little airstrips works:thumb up:
  20. Texas is available in ozrunways but I don't have the relevant subscription. I do subscribe to the pilots touring guide but this must be a different one again.
  21. That fella was on the start up team on the last run Marty and he forgot to tuck his shirt in ;-)

    J160 experience?

For a small fee I won't mention it I should be out in the farm buggy but the afternoon isn't exactly fly friendly.
  23. It is raining here again this afternoon so I was doing some 'research' on YouTube and came across this interesting young fella. This is the 8th video of this multi rotor but check his channel out, seems to be a bit of a goer anyway.

    J160 experience?

Don't even think about EFIing yours, how will the hornet keep up with you then? Ps does SWMBO know about this:stirrer:
  25. this thread is starting to make the 'gun culture' thread more inviting:violin:
