1. Probably wise not to, but I might not have been so strong willed. Great story Kaye - and if you can access the latest "Rag & Tube" there's an article in it of some hardy souls who flew Aeronca Champs across to Langley Park ... the Nullabor price of an (empty!) 20 litre plastic jerry can - $60! Caiguna, a small beer $8 and Avgas $2.85/litre. A box of matches (needed for a minor repair, believe it or not) $1.
2. We came back in the 2CV from Tailem Bend yesterday via the old highway - called in at the strip, which really looked a picture... very attractive & still quite green.
3. I'm sure Mr Cameron's information/evidence is no less valid than that which had Mr Blair confident enough to go chase W.M.D's in Iraq...
4. Hey, I've just picked up that this article refers to 1945 - weren't the Japanese on the run by then? I would have expected frantic burying of grease-protected Spitfires (or anything) to have occurred in 1942. Please clarify for me.
5. I really have my doubts about these aircraft, no matter what their condition is (no doubt of course, they were "protected by oiled wrapping" as the usual stories go) ... have a read through this: no mention anywhere of Spifires. Or shipments of fighter reinforcements, for that matter. http://www.britain-at-war.org.uk/ww2/London_Gazette/Air_Ops_Burma_Jan_to_May_1942/index.htm Still, I'd like to be proven wrong. If that's the case, let's hope the market value of Spitfires isn't too badly affected by such a sudden increase in numbers!
6. Some bloke & blokess trying to find their way west, I believe... all held up in the air by semi-detached linen, I understand.;)
7. You beat me to it, Spin ... I just picked it up on my cat's whisker & crystal wireless set: wonder if it's for real. Let's hope so. Wouldn't they have to be a fairly early mark, 'though?
8. Though I'm no more than a road-bound aviation "groupie" I feel pretty confident in saying that the Auster Brigade are not so far up themselves as to not appreciate any expression of interest or enthusiastic involvement &/or assistance in their fly-in. They're a great bunch - go for it!
9. And finally... more Cowra!
10. More Cowra...
11. Cowra...
12. 2nd instalment.... Brocklesby: Cheetah engine - commemorates the double Anson landing event of WW2. Gate guardians at Forest Hill. Temora: plaque near the one remaining Belman hangar (SWMBO’s dad was a WW2 instructor here). Remainder of shots – Temora .
13. ok, it isn't a flight, but since I seem to be the only TAA member who was at this event (surely someone else was there!) then here goes - with a bit of a lead up as we drove (yes... earthbound travellers, we were) via Tocumwal & Temora, where the Lowy Spitfire is as you will see, undergoing some $eriou$ surgery. If any other TAA'ers were at Cowra, please post your pics! We start off with the superb pylon mounted B24 1/4 scale model at the Tocumwal golf club, followed by the Dakota outside the Mulwala RSL then two CASA C-12's (1984 construction, I find!) used for armed services parachute training at Corowa. More to come, ten images at a time. Stay tuned! (To see these full size, go right click/open link.) 14. Proteus engines ... not without their problems, I recall from reading Stanley Hooker's "Not Much of an Engineer". Take a peek at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol_Proteus and look for the comment made by Frank Owner to Hooker regarding the Proteus development.
15. Ummm... like this, you mean?
16. Safe travels, tailwinds & soft landings...
17. Kaye, I just thought - maybe you might want to swap to using my avatar...?
18. Congratulations Kaye ... you know, you could always post the news into that current mega-fad, Facebook - that way friends of friends of friends of....... would share the glad tidings. And even without F***book there's always the 6 degrees of separation factor!
19. Here are some somewhat smoky shots to enjoy: And here is what's responsible for it all ... Every time each engine on the Temora Canberra... is started, one of these is fired off - at a cost of $600. So before it even gets to consume its JetA1 (and who'd want to foot that bill?) a cool $1200 bucks has been blown. It might pay to keep that in mind when we have to fork out a few dollars to go through the airshow gate, don't you think?

22. It's an age-old problem evidently... we stumbled across this when travelling from Cobram to Temora. Google Brocklesby and Anson for more: it's an amazing story.
23. Well I love it, too ... but then SWMBO reckons I'm just a big kid, and a friend once predicted I'd be Australia's first senile delinquent. What though, is it about Hunters that inspires such way-out paint jobs as these?
