  1. Agreed. I asked for exactly that but it was 4pm on a Friday and I got sent back to Long Reef. So yes you can ask.
  2. You will get a free copy of the Sydney basin guide with every paper Sydney VTC. It needs to be read carefully. Victor 1 needs the occupants to be wearing personal floatations devices because at 500 feet there are times where it "may not be" possible to glide to land. Depends on the conveyance of course. For a VH registered aircraft lodging a flight plan would be a good idea. For harbour scenic 1 you will always enter and exit at long reef VFR approach point. This is controlled air space inside Sydney Harbour above 500 feet. Below that you will be mixing with the odd seaplane on a different frequency. I can PM my experience if it is of interest
  3. Slightly off topic but worth a read http://generalaviationnews.com/2015/10/12/get-mission-oriented/#more-97363

  6. Not tomorrow either according to the weather report I saw. However your circumstances are different to mine and if you can afford the rig/de-rig time for a couple of laps of your favourite grass farm/watermelon patch/scenic escarpment ... Then aviate my brother and make us jealous. Getting back to the thread, there are more highly trailer-friendly options such as the kitfox. If you want a tail dragger specifically then this will narrow the options considerably. Also something to consider, can an aircraft be de-rigged by one person or does it require more help such as people or a winch? I'd be looking at a Sonex on a custom trailer. I don't even have room for a trailer so that stuffs me.
  7. Evektor? Anyway have a look here for what is on offer http://www.raa.asn.au/market/
  8. While we are on the subject of war wounds, I spent most of June 2014 trying to do an RA-Aus cross country endorsement. Did not complete. The weather was insane. I was at the airfield every week day for two weeks and managed to fly four times. This year I had three tries at flying from Canberra to Bankstown (and on to elsewhere) but got turned back by cloud. The fourth attempt was a success. I lost count but that was maybe 15 hours dual to do a 4 hour navex. I was supposed to do my long cross country in late July or early August. I ended up booking three days in a row but every day got messed up by fog lasting until lunch or rain. Then my wife had a baby. The moment I booked for Thursday coming up the probability of rain increased to 90% and I found out I have a new instructor. With luck like that and no ability to hang around an airport for weeks at a time just in case the weather clears, it's no surprise I have ... over 140 hours total time and not even an RPL.
  9. Busting the CTA leaving Redcliffe is a fail. Flying too close to cloud, doing steep turns before a HASSEL check etc etc. these are in the pratical test standards. Forgetting flap on climb out after you get more than 500 feet above the trees ... Ahahahaha. We have all done it. No doubt more than once. The examiner is interested in how long it takes the student to realise the error and what the student does next. E.g. Panic then dump the flaps and drop 100 feet in two seconds, thereby going low G (fun but stoopid) or look out the window for birds and traffic, increase speed and milk the flaps up like you always meant to do it like that
  10. Everyone does a pre-test because the L1 instructor (usually the Chief FI) needs to make a recommendation to CASA that a candidate is ready to do the practical exam. Some students fly ok until they are under exam conditions so chucking a less familiar body in the other seat can expose some weaknesses peculiar to that setting. Also if the L1 recommends more than a few students who fail, it's on the instructor and school. It is not unheard of to get both the authorised testing officer and someone from CASA observing the proceedings from the back seat during an exam so it's good to be sure of your weaknesses before that day
  11. Unlikely on all three counts. I'll check to be sure. Stay tuned
  12. Of course building an airport right next to one that is already being used would make heaps more sense
  13. You are not even close to being a high hour student. PM me if you want the numbers. The biggest issue for me right now is weather. It's rained or been hard overcast below minimums for 75% of my lessons since January
  14. Child number two...

  16. Sealed for life. If they need lubrication it's time for new ones. 77 pounds of tension is a lot of force for a light aircraft control surface
  17. https://www.flexibledrive.com.au/docs/Sect%2010%20PUSH%20PULL%20CABLES.pdf The typical jab cable has a 3" throw
  18. Canberra, Bankstown, Habour Scenic 1, Victor 1, Jibbon Point, Lake Bathurst, Canberra. About 4 hours in two landings
  19. The street address is 8 church lane Wallaroo ACT. Someone is definitely using it. Google maps today showed 3 aircraft next to the grass strip. If you are that keen I'd say drive there with a nice bottle of something to drink and introduce yourself

  21. Sat in the back seat of a warrior on the way from Canberra to Moruya. Said hello to the sky dive people and hung out in the sun. Just too nice, hard to leave. Flew "dual instruction received" back to Lake George and flitted about there for a bit. Weather over Lake Bathurst was perfidious, looking like rain close to freezing temperature. Landed at Canberra and sat watching the sun go down from inside the fence. I was supposed to fly dual to Bankstown. Fair trade?
  22. Does that explain why the left wing looks lower?
