If you're going a fair distance before stopping - just make sure (especially with low hours motor) that your engine doesn't run low on oil. :yuk: just a thought......:) regards

G'Day Ross, must be starting to get a bit exciting your end - not long to go now! ;) My J160c weighed in at 123kg RHS and 120 LHS (no fuel), sorry I don't have weights with full fuel, but one would assume that it would be only a 3kg difference. This weigh in included engine oil and the POH states the difference must not exceed 0.2% or 10kg which ever is greater. (I think that should say 2%, could be a misprint) hope this is helpfull regards

The FLARM is probably the way to go for most of us - I don't fly into many airports that have RPT (2 in the last two years), but I do fly to strips that have gliders in operation. So ADSB for me would be over kill (I don't have a transponder either). :yuk: Here's a plan - RAA design and test a suitable unit (or buy of the shelf (FLARM)) or whatever. ;) AND instead of waiting and being told what to do (by government/CASA/DOTARS whoever) :;)1: we take positive action and beat then to the punch using equipment that works and is affordable and install it NOW. ;) That way we have a system that is in place and working. YES - we would have to get the GA guys on board as well. :big_grin: COST - $499 must be possible - surely. :) regards

If the device that detects another aircraft in close proximity was to give out a steady signal (tone) that would vary in pitch as you got closer or further away, it would give you a chance to "get away" from the other aircraft. Simple but effective. regards -

I think you'll find that the J160 will carry as much as the J230. J160 empty weight - 300kg MTOW 540kg = 240kg payload J230 empty weight - 360kg MTOW 600kg = 240kg payload and..... to get 100 knots out of a J160 requires around 3050 rpm regards

OK here we go... When flying around your own airport there should be no problem with having the right radio frequency - if you can't get that right then stop flying and do something else. ;) Everyone must carry and use a radio (flak jacket on) :big_grin: Fit every airport (licensed) with AFRU (couldn't cost that much surely) ;) If you provide a Unicom service - it must have clear view of all runways and final approaches. (I would have thought that most aero clubs could provide a voluntary weekend service on the busier airports) Double check all frequencies for airports you are flying to in your current ERSA and have them noted in your flight plan. :;)3: Maybe we need to enforce the importance of better radio proceedures and use during intial training and x country training. :;)4: thats a start..... regards

Years ago (about 27 in fact) I used to subscribe to "Choice" magazine. It was one of my main decision makers when it came to buying any white goods etc etc. Then they did a review on the new 8 bit computers - of which I was heavily into. There were lots of mistakes in their information. So I 'phoned them to tell them. Guess what - they didn't want to know! No retractions, no "sorry we got it wrong" nothing. I have become a lot more cynical in my older (and wiser) years. (and I no longer read that magazine) regards -
Just a footnote........ Another Gyroplane has taken to the air here at Echuca. Owned and operated by the same people as the last one. I may have been mistaken about Paul (the guy who survived) - I thought he was a part owner of the business. Maybe he is.... anyway it looks as if life goes on. regards

G'day Geoff - heard from Andy today. ;) He said the cups worked very well and he only needed to fit them to one side of the mount (as per photo). ;) He also told me he sold his Jabiru three years ago!!! :ah_oh: regards
