  1. I had the same problem - until I found the perfect solution, old grandpa's pusher mower - you know -the old cast iron green heavyweight. ;) (I even oiled the wheels for her!) No more fuel mix hassels for me. (the wifes looking a bit tired, I hope she not coming down with something) :;)4: regards
  2. Thanks Brentc - I fitted the larger jets as per Jabiru bulletin at around 240 hours, but I guess it was a little too late. The plugs did show that the mixture was probably a bit rich (nice even black) but at this stage I'd rather run it that way. The good news is that the bore itself is as smooth as - with no sign of anything adverse. ;) One of the club members here is a motor mechanic and he suggested to leave the "mags off" and run the motor on the starter and listen for "eveness" of the cylinders as they compressed. - You could hear the uneven "beat" of the motor as the weak pot came through. :;)4: regards
  3. Grounded (again) At 276 hours my poor little Jabiru is grounded once again due to a burnt exhaust valve. This time it is cylinder 4 (last time at 87 hours was No 1) (2 down and 2 to go??) :;)4: I have suspected of late that I was headed for trouble - hence this thread. The big problem is - as I see it - is that a low compression is not always a "true" indication of a problem. Thus we are deceived into believing that nothing is wrong when it actually is. ;) In other words - if it were "normal" to have 4 (or 6) good compressions - then the minute we didn't get them we would know there was a problem and earlier action could be taken. ;) A simple valve grind/dressing rather than a complete valve replacement. Nothing had changed when I pulled the motor thru EXCEPT I heard a hissing noise......:;)1: (by now too late...) Funny thing is - allthough others have similiar results in this forum - I felt that there was a problem. I felt the same thing with the first burnt valve. I must learn to follow my instincts a little more.... regards
  4. G'Day Ross - we got 72mm in our rain gauge here in town (Echuca). ;);) Lake Cooper has water in it (been empty and bone dry for about 8 years). Lots of water laying around and local grass strips closed. We don't care!!:big_grin::big_grin: regards

C'mon Adam - situational awareness, thats what a radio gives you - (a big picture you can visualize but you don't have to "see") someone rolling on 17, someone over flying at 2500, someone 10 miles to the east at 1500, inbound, someone joining crosswind for 35, all this, and a lot more could be happening as you taxi off to the run up point, and, it it is the 21st century. well..... that's my friendly opinion. ;) regards

I doubt that it will affect the J160 price - big difference: J120 1. thinner cockpit, 2. fuel behind seats, 65 ltrs 3. manual flaps, 4. fewer gauges, (no vertical indication, no amps, no turn indicator, 5. 4 inch wheels, 6. no heater, 7. throttle on seat pan, Now I'm not knocking the J120 - it's brilliant value - there are plenty of new pilots out there either just qualified or about to be - most of them will have learnt in a Jabiru. If you buy factory built - you are limited to what you can change. If you buy owner built - there is a lot more freedom for changes (engine, propellor. etc). So you pays your money and you make a choice based on value, condition, accessories, required operation, etc, etc. Too many Jabirues can't be a bad thing. :big_grin::big_grin::big_grin: regards

  12. Ok lets see........ 1. Take Decca for a ride in my J160 2. Wear sunglasses when looking at Mick's Dover Skylark (he just polishes and polishes :big_grin::big_grin:) 3. Clear area for fire - NO guys it aint gonna happen!! (Fire Ban :ah_oh::ah_oh:) 4. Make sure fridge fully stocked with water, softdrink and BEER ;);) 5. Thaw out 6 dozen eggs......(see attempt 1) 6. Poker run? - Spot Landings? - Bomb the Windsock? :):) I guess its up to Ian to fill in more details as the event gets closer...... regards
  13. Yes - a 6 cylinder J170 - Empty weight around 330 kg LSA = 600kg - so 270 kg payload (J230 around 240 kg) and wider cockpit and about $7000 less than the J230. (around 88000) regards

Aw c'mon guys be fair - you need to compare the above mentioned aircraft NOT against the J160 :;)4: - BUT put them against the J230 ;) - still cheaper and leaps into the air (much larger wing) and cruises at 120 kts (much larger motor), did I mention the REAR door to load luggage into? :big_grin: High wing (built in shade and rollover protection. Huge fuel capacity. Buy parts at local deli (well, almost). (stepping off my box now....) :big_grin::big_grin::big_grin: regards

  22. A Jab motor has to be rotated at 300 RPM or more to create spark for the plugs. :) HOWEVER - if the motor has been running and there is a hot spot in one of the cylinders - you may loose a finger or worse...... :yuk: regards

OK - this may sound a little paranoid BUT - ;) How many Jabiru owners out their actually get 4/6 even weight compressions when they pull their motor thru for first start of the day? ;) I have NEVER had 4 good strong compressions - always 1 or 2 a bit less (sometimes a lot????). I've been told this is quite normal?? :;)4: My J160c now has 270 hrs and running fine. (It's driving me crazy) :confused: regards
