GA to RAA - Minimum Time or Just Competency?
BigPete replied to poteroo's topic in Student Pilot & Further Learning
I would say that all instructors have a vested interest in their students surviving. Ex students/GA conversions coming to grief do not make for a good reputation. i_dunno We all slow down a little as we get older - and I believe most GA converts would be in the "older" age group. It takes more time. The instructor will know when you're ready. regards -
I THINK YOU'LL FIND THAT'S ABOUT THE OLDEST RULE IN THE BOOK!:big_grin: Sorry I shouted - caps lock key on - and I can't be bothered to retype. regards

My Jabiru flys in the future. About 3 months worth. In other words todays Avgas price is what you can expect to pay for Mogas in the next 3 months. :ah_oh: My head hurts.....:big_grin::big_grin: regards

Well done Derek, the best news I've heard in ages. It won't be long before you can give me a flight. ;) I look forwatd to reading about your progress. So sorry to hear about your Mum Slarti - but now she has her own wings - you know what they say.... "One more angel in Heaven..." regards

The bottom line........

The Fogs dispersal rate is tied to your need to fly. I found this out only this morning. Woke at 4.30 (I have no reason why :raise_eyebrow: ) tossed and turned for an hour and a half (well it is Saturday - sleep in day) decided to go flying nice and early. Showered, shaved (and the other one) went outside - BLOODY FOG. YES I know it was forecast, but so is the rain we never get!! (How can they be so right and so wrong????) :yuk: Now its 7.45am and its still FOGGY. regards

G'day Modest Pilot, Did Rod say why he wouldn't OK it for the 160? regards
-
Not if you get online to the RAA website t83 - all aircraft are posted there as the newsletter is released. regards
-
Well I didn't feel numb. I felt educated. Made me think. You got to love these forums. John - who knows how many lives your post could save? Maybe even mine. forever grateful. regards

I kinda like it! regards:big_grin::big_grin::big_grin:

Cor - what a landing - ya just gotta keep the "front gear" off the deck for as long as possible. regards
-
It must have been a fair old gust - I thought these "wingless" aircraft were not so prone to turbulance. regards

My 160 revs to 2900 on climb out at 65, 70 or 75 knots. Motzartmerv, I'm pretty sure that Jabiru quotes the 2200 - 85hp @ 3300rpm. ;) I have changed the jets as per the latest Jabiru instruction. I know of a 160 that has the 44in prop and still revs out OK. :) regards

Ahhh - Ben I recognize the symptoms........ Technamitis.......... heheheheheh:big_grin::big_grin::big_grin: regards

My J160c uses 15 l/p/h at 2950 rpm. There is another difference between the 160 and 170 - the 170's tailplane is 300mm wider. regards

the weather giving us the bird....... regards

If you are "crash landing" you could jettison the canopy - however I would have thought most "upside downers" are the result of a normal landing gone wrong. regards
-
I have seen two Jabirus inverted - on both occassions the doors were easy to open.... regards

My Garmin 3600a (Palm Pilot fitted with garmin hardware) works beautifully with just a small swing out attached antenna inside the cockpit. Never had to use the extra antenna. Perspex and fibreglass do not seem to be a problem for the satelite signals. I once took it on a trip in commercial jet - just pointed it through the window (the antenna part) and it worked great, 40,000 feet and doin' around 500 knots.:big_grin::big_grin: regards

I went to Avalon last year (flew in). What a blast - camped at Lara footy ground. Shuttle bus service was fantastic - never had to wait too long for the bus. Camping was good with extra showers and toilets provided. Very reasonable meal prices and drinks from the Lara Club Rooms? right next to the camp. Highly recommended. Cheap cooked breakfast by the local scout group every morning. regards
-
G'day Martin - you may have a bare wire/connection somewhere within the control stick? I assume this happens while flying. Try moving the stick around while on the ground to see if you can reproduce the problem. regards
-
Ah - Silly me - I missed the "external" when I read your post. So you have the Garmin 27c antenna (like mine) but you must have (I assume) a metal aeroplane. regards
-
G'day Captain - I hadn't planned to - but if they get that belt going....... (I could probably land on it before I take off....):big_grin::big_grin: regards
