  1. What a brilliant idea AusDarren  regards
  2. Good onya Pete. Way to go. (pssst Hey David looks like you and I started somethin') Perhaps a new survey regarding primary means of Navigation NB. I plan my trips very carefully and include man made waypoints, (silos, wailway twacks, (stop it!), powerlines (the big ones), and natural ones (lakes, rivers (mostly dry (sigh)), etc. I even avoid tiger country and plot the avoidance on my GPS. AND I have everything plotted on the maps and take the appropiate equipment so I've got it if I need it. :) THEN - I sit back and enjoy the flight. regards
  3. G'day FlyBlue, What you need is - A Jabiru J170c. 1. nosewheel 2. useable fuel 130 liters (@15 per hour) most trips might be done with all fuel reuired in the aeroplane. 3. buy it new (should be good with the tax) 4. 100 kt cruise, 290 kilo payload (LSA), very strong undercarriage for rough strips (just remove spats and fit bigger, tougher tyres and keep nosewheel up on landing), High wing goes over the scrub. Good STOL capacity for the cruise speed required. 5. A J230c would be quicker (115/120kts) and not much thirstier for distance travelled, has a rear door and more room for baggage, but it is around $15,000 dearer and has less load capacity. (around 240kg) regards
  4. Jack - that's a brilliant set of flaps mate, electric or manual? regards
  5. ....Bronwyn B declared the gathering a new Politcal Party called "If you think the current government sucks, wait to you try us." She was last seen trying to work out an acronym for the above. Meanwhile back at OzStork HQ the latest machine was about to make it's (here's a chance for some good rumers - don't let me down!) debut.........

    Hello

G'day Maxi (for short). Does a Drifter with floats get called a Floater?:big_grin: regards
  7. Well David if you're out (of the closet, so to speak) then so am I. I love my GPS  - I use it all the time. I also take my maps etc on a trip and they stay in the map pocket until I need 'em. So far I haven't had to use them. i_dunno I'm sure that not long ago when they first started fitting compass to aircraft - a fair amout of people would have said "what do you want that for - what's wrong with following roads/train tracks, etc." "You can't rely on them, what happens when they stop workin...." (Sound familiar?) (FLAME SUIT ON) regards
  8. Now that's enuff you wascalls..... (oh God, now I'm doin' it.) :yuk: egads
  9. In those conditions I wouldn't be looking to flare too much or at all - half flap at most - in my Jabiru J160c approach would 60/65 knots with a little throttle on. Drive it onto the run way and be ready to put the stick into the wind once on the deck. regards
  10. G'Day Rich - welcome to the forums - lots of good info here and we're all very friendly. regards

    J160 Tyres??

At Narromine this year I noticed that some of the Tooradin Jabs had 15 inch tyres on standard rims - not sure of the ply rating, but they looked terrific - any info out there? regards
  12. Did someone go to Rod Stiffs presentation - I went to the Jabiru Maintenance presentation and had to miss out on the latest from Jabiru's camp. I think its a bit poor to put on two items for Jabiru lovers at the same time. thumb_down regards
  13. Around 18 months ago a rebuilt zero hours 2200 Jabiru (solid lifters) (from the Jabiru factory) was around 10k while a brand new one was around 13k. (hydraulic) Give them a call - I have seen second hand Jabirus around 4.5K to 6k or more in various mags. Good hunting. regards
  14. Geez we're a useless lot at times :yuk: - couldn't organize a you know what in a you know where. - maybe next time we could all meet at a pre-arranged time in a pre-arranged place and have our own party. Maybe a "Rec Flyin' Forums Badge" for well established members could also be the go. (You show me yours and I'll show you mine). Comments? regards
  15. Well - We've done it again. RAIN - Both Ian and myself have once again brought rain to a very dry area. An invoice will soon be on the way to the Narromine council requesting payment for our unique "RAIN" service. If you're in dire straits and need water - just arrange a fly-In and invite us. Had a great time at NATFLY 2008, both myself and my grandson (LittlePete) enjoyed Ian's hospitality, (and the hot X buns) had some great talks with Ian's dad Jack and also enjoyed catching up with Ross (Slatibartfast), Shafs, Disperse, the two Geoffs (Red Cliffs) John, Cliff, Hazel and Ian, Jabiru Joe and Victor, Mark D and many more. Also found a SPECK on the Dova Skylark after Mick had polished it!!! and met the lovely Helen (Micks wife). Saw lots of aeroplanes (really ) and enjoyed the cameraderie of all and sundry. Had a great trip home dodging the rain and enjoying a brief stop at Griffith (met up with half the flyers who departed Narromine that morning. Even refueled the Pioneer 300 at Echuca before heading home (in the car). Alltogether a very satisfying trip - 7 hrs flying - 635 miles and 105 liters of fuel and Fun, Fun, FUN. regards
  16. G'Day John - another Jabiru Jockey on the forums. regards
  17. Well done Alan - now you're off. regards
  18. Well done Chris - now the hardest part, waiting, waiting, waiting....... regards
  19. One last question b4 I head off tomorrow - Bottled water/softdrink and BBQ food - is it a ripoff or reasonable prices? regards

To be quite honest - I don't Know. I took my spats of some time ago. My spats are of the two piece variety while later jabs have a one piece. regards

    J160 Tyres??

I too have the 10 ply wonders  - highly recommended from M + C Tyres Bendigo. regards
  24. I recon you just need to run it one day only - either Saturday or Sunday - with enough notice so that we can organize ourselves to be there. Maybe we should all wear some method of ID, so that members of this forum can recognize each other whenever they attend an event like this - that way we convert it to a mini flyin. regards
  25. I got there at 0830 - I was 1st to park in the visiting aircraft area (no bloody prize though!). Ian was there just finishing setting up the tent. (Ian's dad, Jack was also there). Got myself a new ERSA (yahoo - legal again). ;) Bought the dearest cuppacino I have ever paid for (4.50 sheese) thumb_down and spent a couple of hours looking at all the bargains and different aeroplanes (lots of, both GA and RAA) Saw Mr Morgan and his lovely maroon aeroplane (Siera?) and nearly convinced him I was a genuine prospective buyer (for a free demo ride) when one of my d/head mates asked me how my Jab was going.:yuk: Caught up with Wayne of these forums and had a great chat with him - last saw him and Ian swapping old radio annoucer stories from the past - seems they were both "super stars of radio" SOME TIME AGO......:big_grin: Pip Borman bored the crap out of every body with his impossible acrobatic display - C'mon Pip I've seen it before.....(He!He!He!) Pip is one of those pilots who's aeroplane dosen't know about the laws of flight...... Took my camera to get some real good pics for you all, you know - Fully automatic digital wonder with 8 zillion pixels, 40 x optical lense, and NO memory card installed - aw S:censored::censored:T Did remember to wear my hat - so tired but happy and unsunburnt - I flew my little Jabby back to Echuca (hot and bumpy) and that's that. regards
