  1. Hi frosty, Installed my new composite prop on the 230 last week. The extra performance is noticeable, climb, smoothness and quieter than the wooden one. I bought mainly for less stone chipping and rain damage. I reckon about an extra 4 or 5 Knots. I would reccomend at this early stage. I did my BFR yesterday and the CFI said that it ran a lot smoother than the club 230. My wooden prop with spimmer and all parts is for sale if anyone is interested. Phil
  2. I had a shortish conversation with the guys in the green jackets at our fly-in. Number one must was that you HAD to have the weather on a backup device or paper. He advised that to be legal I had to download the document. I installed "Good Reader" which displays the weather report in its entirety. Just having an iPad is not legal. The first thing they will ask is what charge have you got left to complete your flight! and then ask for a saved current weather report. It is possible to save a page of the weather but only that page and not the next which would have the notams and tafs. I just put the reports for each area in the Good Reader file and access when crossing the boundaries which can be seen on the pca map with your plane symbol identifying your position. Had mine a while now and still learning as they update reasonably often with more features. A trap that you can get into easily is by running out of credit through your provider, so chech your balance before you leave. Phil.
  3. I have the iPad 3 with Ozrunnways. I would not like to go smaller with the Mini. Although obvious advantages would be more compact and some extra gizmos. I am a happy chappie. Phil
  4. Yes Pat. Everybody is entitled to their own stupid opinion, but no hard feelings Phil

  7. The ATSB commenced an investigation at about 1100 on 18 June 2013 and the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder were removed from the aircraft and forwarded to the ATSB’s facilities in Canberra for download. The investigation is continuing This could explain why they didn't continue the journey.
  8. Renmark and Loxton clubs will be attending. Numbers later. phil.
  9. So, just dump the passengers and continue elsewhere?
  10. Virgin trying to find alternate transport for passengers infers that the runway was not long enough for a loaded takeoff.

  12. Yes TP agree. I also suspect that of the 100 odd voters, some may not even be Raaus members Phil
  13. I have delayed my vote on the poll until I could get a good grasp of what other forum members were thinking and not to jump in too early. What if I had voted one way and now changed my mind? Could I cancel my vote and cast another? Just a thought as I think the original knee jerk would alter the final count Phil.
  14. My old man had an 1920's something Indian belt drive. Sold it to a bike shop for their window display for 25 quid. Wonder its worth today? Ah well, I could have bought a Jag XK120 in mint condition for $28 grand in 1970. so shouldnt complain.
  15. Read on. Includes engine
  16. Kaz, Thanks for clearing that up Phil
  17. Please point out where the coroner said the above. I looked at the 10 or so recomendations and its not there. Maybe somewhere else?
  18. Ripper!
  19. Hey Mike, you got a new runway?
  20. I am interested to find out the cause of your puncture. I used to have flat tyres mainly on bitumen strips. The tubes were usually worn from friction. Since changing to 10 ply, touch wood, no further hassles. I also keep the pressure up. Some of our members used talc powder between the tyre and tube to reduce the friction. Just a thought Let's know the outcome Phil
  21. Done 430 hours with the original 230 prop. It has some stone scars near the tips. I was thinking seriously of replacing. Looking forward to hearing results before spending mega bucks. Feed back appreciated Phil .
  22. Read this snippet today Six gas stations in N.J. allegedly sold avgas Six gas stations in New Jersey have been accused by state Attorney General Jeffrey S. Chiesa of selling 100-octane aviation fuel in place of unleaded automobile gas in early December. Avgas contains tetraethyl lead that can damage the catalytic converters and oxygen sensors of a car and is also extremely toxic. "We allege that these gas stations clearly knew, or should have known, they were selling aviation fuel that contains toxic lead, while advertising it as unleaded gasoline for motorists," the attorney general said.
  23. I had to pay by cheque (or cash) at Forest over $3 lt they made a mean egg and bacon toasted sanger. We rang ahead with the order. Nice couple. Do as much of the Bight as you can from there. Plenty of tiger from Kal, mainly scrub, so get over to the rail line ASAP. Where there are numerous ala's and the road. Looks like you will be behind the front all the way. Enjoy the trip and get the camera stoked up from Eucla to Nullabor Phil
  24. Note your stops at Eucla and Nullabor. Definitely phone ahead re strip conditions. Eucla was closed when I came across two weeks ago and One of Nullabors strips was only partly useable. We refuelled at Forest instead. Also phone re avgas. Cut across to the Bight from there if you cant land at Eucla and was I reckon the highlight. After Nullabor only ordinary. Hope the weather holds for you Cheers Phil
  25. Sorry for the delay in answering, plenty of mail to get through when I got home etc He used the bladder as a jerry can, only had to use twice that I recall. I noticed that he carried a short step ladder to be able to manipulate the bladder. Cheers Phil
