  1. There ya go, I agree, it is the better of the two. Mod, problem I had was that as originally posted the photo order was reversed. Whilst stuffing around trying to sort out the order, I got a message telling me that my time for editing had expired. When I went back to the post, the edit button (next to report) was missing, so no way to get back in to add the second photo, nor more importantly to remove the photo if I were say asked to by say an aircraft owner. I'm afraid I don't post on sites that remove my right to remove photos, which appeared to be the case here. I see the edit button is now restored, as is my sense of well being.
  2. Not happy Jan, I won't be posting any more photos if the site decides how they get placed and stops me editing to sort out the mess. Kindly delete my original post mods. (Could you be a little more specific in regards to the problem you have come across - Moderator)
  3. Story goes airforce and pongo candidate officers got into a "discussion" at the military academy, words were exchanged, including some to the effect that said pongos would never bow down to flyboys. The airforce CO's duly accepted the challenge and called on pongos whilst the latter were on a route march. Photos reportedly taken during 1961 and only recently surfaced; no longer matters I guess.
  4. http://www.flyapa.com.au/#!about-us Based at Jacobs Well. Nick Sigley, drifterdriver on here is CFI. No Jabs but nice Foxbats.
  5. Concorde was a fairly unique scenario, overweight, undercarriage drag (on ground and then in air when they couldn't retract), aft C of G, then to crown it all they shut down a "good" engine whilst they were wallowing around just off the stall at dot feet. It was really only a question of when and where they would crash, not if. If I'm not mistaken they also actually made a go decision before V1, despite having id'ed a massive problem and standard practice calling for an RTO at that stage.
  6. Probably had some sub-editor mangle the journos report to make it sound better. I'd guess it started out as "failed to get off the ground...." You're right though, makes no sense as it is written; they would probably have climbed away, dumped fuel and returned on one if it happened as reported.
  7. That is seriously impressive, all the more so because there did not appear to be a howling wind on the nose and it was clearly a decent landing, not a controlled crash.
  8. Geez you live and learn - never heard of it, but looks interesting.
  9. Sounds like justice was served. Sadly I suspect the local version would read something like - "the subject suffered significant trauma at the hands of the brutal ADF personnel and will be paid an exhorbitant settlement as well as receiving a heartfelt public apology from the minister, chief of the defence force etc"
  10. I don't believe so, as I understand it aircraft are exempt from duty anyway, but NOT GST which is payable on the total cost of import, shipping included. Search here on the forums, several people have gone through this recently, Rocketdriver and Spiriteah are two that come to mind.
  11. What gives with the title getting changed from all caps when submitted??
  12. Powered paragliders have been mentioned here several times recently. I flew one briefly in the early days of experimenting with kart engines, but as with most things, knowledge and equipment seem to have advanced by leaps and bounds since then. In my recent reading I came across the following thread on an overseas site - if nothing else the photos are mouth watering, even inspiring... http://www.avcom.co.za/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=74661
  13. Cause he can? One day.... I'd love to do a trip like that.
  14. http://www.qam.com.au/ at Caloundra, on the Sunshine Coast too; Caribou, Viscount cockpit, Fairey Gannet, Hawker Hunter, Sea Venom, DHA Drover, Winton Grasshopper and many others.
  15. I'd pay to watch that!
  16. Interesting - certainly looks a hell of a lot better in the photos than many shed dwellers I've seen. Assuming the motor is not rebuilable, I wonder what you could fit up front?
  17. Haibo, this conversation is becoming rather hifalutin for simple pilots:oh yeah:. Willem Wikkelspies on a pilot's forum indeed! On the subject of your Jab, I don't think I even have a photo, but Wayne was the one who took me up way back when. From memory it was the first one he built (and very nicely too); we got onto him because a mate was interested in his Windlass trike and one thing lead to another, next thing I was twirling around over the Valley of a Thousand Hills. As far as Aus goes, I have great memories of growing up in Africa, but my only regret in moving was that I didn't do so 20 years earlier.
  18. Yeah been watching that thread, be nice to have some choice. With a bit of luck the 600/544kg split will be academic soon - although I won't be holding my breathe, we seem to be be very far down CASA's priorities.
  19. Row 2 in the 210 is fine, rather squeezy in row 3 though. 210 definitely better for sight seeing.
  20. Welcome Wayne and enjoy learning to spread your wings. Good folk out at Boonah:thumb up:
  21. David that's gold! Unlikely as it might seem I sometimes have a twinge of understanding for CASA's position, hearing that sort of story. I find though that a beer or similar fortifying drink soon gets rid of said twinge.
  22. I tend to agree, I've sat in the back of an airliner going around on several occasions and much as I'd rather they did that instead of pressing on regardless, I was acutely aware that there had to be something "wrong" in the sense of not normal for that to happen. Probably a case of a little bit of knowledge being dangerous. On one occasion it was a route check for a new recruit - coincidently a young bloke who had done some of my PPL training and he hadn't been in a stabilised approach by the required height, must say I quite enjoyed seeing his white face afterward, he had been very difficult to satisfy in a C152:oh yeah:. It was obvious from the way the power kept being adjusted quite noticeably and the alternating light and heavy sensation seated in the tail of the aircraft that things weren't going entirely smoothly up front. Another was viewed from the jump seat and it was interesting to see just how busy the cockpit of an airliner gets. I believe the newer, all singing, dancing models have things fairly automated - push the TOGA button and follow the bars on the flight director at least for the first part, but this was an old 200 series 737, so very much steam driven, manual technology.
  23. Tomo, you're active with all limbs attached and in working order, perhaps consider a powered paraglider, the wing packs up into a rucksack and the engine/propshroud /harness unit will fit into your ute - about as portable an aircraft as you'll ever see. You have access to conventional aircraft if you want to take a passenger along, keep this for that quick flip before work or to drag along on holiday. I flew one early days when the guys were experimenting, an absolute hoot. There are plans available for putting your own together or the new Yuneec electric model looks really interesting, if a little more exy. Geez I'll talk myself into it again at this rate, I've been eyeing the dunes on Moreton in any event. http://www.skytribe.co.za/
  24. Whoa - that could have been really ugly if he had hit the sea wall. Strangely enough I remarked to someone at a recent fly in that much as I'd love a ride in one of the big warbirds - the higher stall speeds and vastly greater momentum they have in comparison to our 45kts/600kg aircraft are a concern should the big fan up front come to a stop. Good result considering.
  25. http://www.abc.net.au/iview/#/view/741699 Glad I came across it, well made I thought and put a human face on the drama without doing the aca/tonight tearjerker. I would probably liked a bit more in depth technical stuff, but they pitched it right for most of the audience. It was quite an amusing aside to see that the first Alan Joyce knew of a problem was when the shares went into freefall.
