1. That one lives at Watts Bridge NW of Brisbane - really needs a soundtrack to go with the photo, luvvverly!
2. Fair enough, I'll have to drop in a bit more regularly - it really is an attractive set up. I'm a bit further north at Bonogin so call it 40 mins, much the same as to Heck Field - or Tyagarah for that matter.
3. Welcome Amphibone, nice machine you've got yourself there. Still haven't seen the Seamax in the flesh but looks pretty in the photos, I have been very impressed with the Super Petrel though, there is one based at Jacobs Well (Rohan) as well as Peter's (HEON) demonstrator at Warwick. Incidentally I've been in and out at Murwillumbah a couple of times, by road and air and never seen much activity. Is there a time that's better than any other to drop in and say hello?
4. I don't remember seeing that, although I reckon that caption might apply here too
5. I doubt Hildy is having anything to do with the GPS whilst in the circuit, it more than likely gets turned on with the avionics during the preflight and from then acts as a data logger until turned off again. I must say that although they are undoubtedly clever and useful bits of kit, I find it more useful to have an instructor point out via visual cues where I might be going wrong, rather than rehashing the flight on screen afterward, when I don't have any opportunity to correct things. Dunno, maybe it's a generational thing:big_grin:
6. Dunno, I found no. 1 the more impressive of the two, no. 2 was real ugly, flared way too late and just drove it into the ground - quite a testament to the toughness of the aircraft.
7. Hi Dave, I remember the Spit, I think it happened on the Friday, I only came down for the day on Sat - got to see her all bent in the hangar:crying: I did manage to grab these photos off the net;
8. Seems this may sum it up instead of getting caught up in semantics, some of our members may even know a little more about this video:oh yeah:
9. Maj 1 - Media 0! Thanks for the update, damn, doesn't sound promising.
10. :thumb_up:Nice one!
11. Saw that one too, but was changing film and missed the photo (remember those days?) Incidentally unless there was another SAA flypast down there, I believe there was at least one complaint from a passenger and the pilot got carpeted for it. I don't know him personally but recall it being discussed one day when I visited the Kremlin at Smuts. Dave was that the same year the Shakelton diverted from a patrol to do an impromptu display, I remember those Griffons making the hair on the back of my neck stand up!
12. Negative, brown job.
13. Bit of a puzzle, no further comms and no beacon, unfortunately it doesn't sound too promising at this stage. I've been following the discussion on the prune, seems from some reports that they aren't even sure how many POB - of course that could also be the media getting the story twisted, I see the abc say only pilot and carrying cargo.
14. I think it may have been that show, the Red Arrows did a tour when the SAAF were wavering over what trainer to order, flying the flag for the Hawk as it were. I recall some pretty good photos taken o/head Vic Falls and having a flying lesson cancelled so we could all retire to Jo Kools in Durban to watch the show over the beachfront. I have some photos of that buried somewhere.
15. Thanks for the links Smokey - the more I look at it the more I think CSA are the winners in this deal, they have received a huge amount of exposure and representation across new markets, plus they managed to sell a few extra aircraft over the past year. It is a bit of a concern though that the manufacturers aren't seeing the volumes of sales that they anticipated when they started selling into the LSA market, I understand that Cirrus were going to do something similar to Piper but have pulled the pin in favour of concentarting on their existing piston and new jet aircraft.
16. There you go Darky, http://www.targa.org.au/Tasmania/eventdates.html, just the thing for a Mini Cooper
17. I don't have any behind the scenes info, however it seemed a strange deal for Piper in the first place - nothing new in manufacturers buying an existing design and marketing it under their own name, however here the identical aircraft was being sold in the same markets, with the original name on it, even the paint schemes remained the same(???) From all accounts it is a good aircraft and potentially a shrewd move by Piper, allowing them to hit the market well ahead of Cessna, but you would have thought Piper would have nailed down the terms of the deal upfront. I'd have loved to have been a fly on those boardroom walls.
18. Welcome aboard Tim, good to hear the Lightwings are still featuring on the training fleet. Keep us posted on your progress. Cheers Carl
19. Well done mate, I'd admired that one out at Watts, seemed nicely put together. That's an impressive delivery flight - how about some more detail and a few photos?
20. Not something I know much about but will be interested to see what comes out of the discussion. I have watched a bloke who does bush pilot training courses do some really hair raising things with a Cessna, hair raising to me at least but it was very interesting to hear him explain what was involved. The lesson was that if you know your aircraft well and are current, there is a lot of capability unused in normal operations. Some of the old PNG hands have some interesting tales to tell in this regard too.
21. Hey Dazza, that's not good news re 5395 - glad all ok. Bit of a shrinking fleet huh! I wonder whether the nasty gusty wind we had today had anything to do with it?
22. Shyte, that's not good, glad all ok. Shrinking fleet alright! I wonder whether the nasty gusty wind we had here today had anything to do with it?
23. Spin

Will it float?

This one. Certainly did float and washed up largely intact further downstream although I understand it was later written off by insurers. There was a bloke who landed in the Channel not too long ago and who stayed aboard his floating ultralight for several hours until rescued, so it is a worthwhile feature.
24. Sounds like a good trip Dave, did you see the doco on Lake Eyre on Sunday evening? Pretty fascinating.
25. Video - now that I'd love to see!
