  1. The adverts are almost as good reading as the content. Glad to see the Comet got a mention.
  2. Just make sure a simple 'flight review' is not seen by a school as an easy income generating opportunity.
  3. If you avoid weekends Jandakot is pretty quiet these days. Rumour is traffic is more than a third down on previous years.
  4. Its probabaly prohibited these days, but one of the best anti-barf strategies is to let them wiggle the stick for a while. It gives them a focus, rather than just letting them think about throwing up.
  5. From the BP link I posted a while ago: Opal is a direct substitute for regular unleaded 91, delivering comparable performance. It can be used in cars, boats and other engines. It’s safe to mix with regular unleaded 91, or higher octane fuels, and can be stored in the same way.
  6. Xavier, your own post confirms that Opal fuel is not appropriate, at least not without modification. For example "it can help to use an octane booster" and recommend using "Yamaha Ring Free". I don't know what constitutes a "recommended qualified person with a lot of experience in aviation", but perhaps its like "a mate down the pub that flys a lot". I'd prefer to go by the Rotax operator's manual (and legally should as well I believe): Page 2-9 912 S/ULS Min RON 95 or 100LL Avgas The manufacturer of Opal states that it is not a minimum of 95 Octane (RON scale) and therefore it isn't suitable. Unlike an outboard motor, you can't bring out the paddle when the motor stops.
  7. Correction: "vista just needed to be put down"
  8. Did you mean 'remote' controlled?
  9. Rumor is they have a radio controlled one as well, but who cares if it goes OK and gives enjoyment. Plenty of replicas around.
  10. Yee hah, I bet you are busting for a ride. I'd be seriously fretting and pacing up and down just now.
  11. I'm waiting for a report on how the conditions were and how many record flights were made. Its always good to hear more about flying activities.
  12. Not so many years ago, we would have had German, Belgian, US and others as well as the RAF flying around (apart from Wednesday afternoons which was sports time and a great time for the Russkis to invade). Places like the 'Mach loop' in Wales and other LFA had a very tight booking system. Then add crop sprayers, air taxi and private stuff. Had a fraction of the radio waffle that we have here in Oz.
  13. A decent electric trim switch, but shame about the bull horns.
  14. Too much waffle on these CTAF and similar frequencies, you'd think that some are trying to get their money back for the investment in the radio. Look out of the window with a sound scan technique and only talk to the people that you have to talk to.
  15. Well if somebody can do Melbourne to London in a little amphibian. It'll be quicker than doing it in the Solar Impulse (still 1600km to go to Hawaii as I write this).
  16. Apart from the speed difference, I reckon moving to the Warrior will be a cake walk. These ultralights are harder work at times.
  17. Slightly off topic, but the whole licence system is a crazy mess. I wanted to use my UK PPL and hours to help obtain a RPL. Why RPL? Well the anticipated cost of my getting a Class 2 is very significant, as I will be treated as a new applicant and being on the wrong side of 59. The doctor issued recreational medical is a more attractive option that covers my needs. However, I can't use my PPL to apply for a RPL, but can apply for a PPL which I could then downgrade to a RPL. OK, thats doable, but wait.......... I have to get a Class 2 medical to first get the PPL! That's all direct advice from CASA, not anyone's interpretation.
  18. What a shame you can't fly it home.
  19. Damn, somebody picked the irony! Of course if Leading Seaman Leroy Halfpinger from Detroit with his half baked edumacation on some mizzle cruizer in the Gulf is in charge we'll be right.
  20. And are devoid of human frailties like fatigue, fear and of course judgement.
  21. Should be easy to determine by the existence or otherwise of strike marks.
  22. Dunno about the last, but a Skyraider shot down a Mig 17 in the Vietnam war.
  23. Ozrunways will only show other Ozrunway users with active cell phone connections.
  24. Part of the Foxbat issue is the lousy grip and buttons, plus its a bit slow. The Sportstar I fly has the same grip and buttons, but trim is a bit too fast. Finicky just about sums it up. I've always reckoned that the overhead coffee grinder trim on early Cherokees worked well, but many disliked it.
