  1. Glad it worked, still a strong case for SD card support as it would have saved that trouble. I got the company to buy me a full size iPad - made sure I got at least the 64Gb model!
  2. An amateur radio operator has just sent his second one on an around the world flight. The latest one took 12 days and carried a low power transmitter.
  3. Have you removed all the maps, AIP and ERSA? The immediate problem is probably the extra space that's required for the upgrade files. Once the upgrade is complete there should be more room available. Please ignore if I'll telling you something you already know. I'd hope that the SD card option is high on the RWY upgrade list.
  4. There you hit the nail on the head. He is not the slightest bit interested in other people's opinions, he is only interested in Dick's opinion.
  5. I use the autopilot mainly and just for the fun of flying full IMC. Flying a holding pattern and ADF approach in 8/8ths and a strong wind is great for your situational awareness.
  6. The two systems are quite independent of each other, which is why the Android version is currently some way behind the iPad version. From what I gather, the Android system will develop quite quickly to offer similar functionality and perhaps more than the iPad version. I have both, with an iPad mini and a 7" Samsung. The samsung offers what I call a 'lite' experience compared to the iPad. Disregarding all the white noise about viewing size, the mini is a very adequate platform for knee board use or for crowded cockpits. Although if I had the choice and space, I'd mount a full iPad either on a RAM mount or fixed to the panel.
  7. You are talking about later variants e.g. Warrior I believe. I was referring to preferring the handbrake over the LSA style of toe brake, where weight savings means that both rudder and brake controls are minimalist.
  8. I'd swap LSA style toe brakes for a steerable nose wheel and hand brake. Worked great on the Piper Cherokee range.
  9. Anything that develops hand-eye coordination will help, but from what you write "I always fly with the exact numbers rather than make necessary adjustment according to situation outside" the issue is more related to dealing with unpredictable and changing situations. One of the first things I'd suggest is avoid computerised instrument panels and computer games and try things that have true depth of vision variations and the element of surprise. Maybe a fast motorbike!
  10. This ABC thread from 1999 makes interesting reading. Draw your own conclusion, but what was proposed in "the trial" was unworkable across Australia. http://www.abc.net.au/4corners/stories/s20879.htm
  11. Fact is always better than fiction (BOM forecasts that is). As you say there is no room for interpretation in that paragraph.
  12. I don't believe that OME was suggesting that anyone goes to see somebody hurt. The reality is that people do got to various sports and similar events for thrills. The Red Bull Air Race is a classic example, clipping the 'cones' is acceptable, but clipping the water certainly brings on the stunned silence.
  13. The only thing he is pro about is Pro-Dick. Appallingly bad self-promoter who ends up putting his foot into his large mouth somewhere down the track. Total egotist and by all accounts awful to work with.
  14. He is and always has been a pillock with mostly half the facts at best.
  15. All the more reason to state the (correct) facts when reporting and not paraphrase or modify.
  16. How can it be? I really have never heard that version of the pot polisher before. Priceless!
  17. Probably one of those aerial truckie types who doesn't pay for his own rubber.
  18. Is that (a) dwarf...... Its unkind, but every time I hear a dwarf joke I think of the female dwarf with the too long wellie boots.
  19. I concur that the trim is a little slow and the much higher rate on the Sportstar surprised me when I switched. I have no affection for the trim buttons on the grip that is common to both aircraft, PC joysticks I've used have better ergos. The rudder has enough authority to just about fly sideways, but if the trim tab isn't spot on, too much attention is needed to keep the ball in place. Rudder trim would be nice, but niceties all eat into the 280kg or so of useful load.
  20. Former pilots lived with a life long stutter :-)
  21. I actually used to know of a policeman with the name Ken Ettle and needless to say, he was known as Copper Kettle.
  22. Intended for use on the aircraft carrier Graf Zeppelin which was launched in 1938, but never completed. The catapult shots were a test version of the catapult that was to be fitted on the carrier.
  23. Let's hope they look after it better this time.
  24. A 'short' left wing joke; "Bill who?".
  25. Sounds like the headline about a crazy rapist that attacked the patrons in an Elizabeth laundromat and fled on a motorbike: NUT SCREWS WASHERS AND BOLTS
