  1. Just out of curiosity, how would you get a type training on a single seater? My original question was mostly in the direction of purchasing my first plane, not necessarily hiring one.
  2. So for example, I should be able to fly any high wing tricycle undercarriage aircraft with a stall speed around 35kts and cruise speed 60 to 100kts? So most Jabirus, high wing Tecnams ok, but I may need some type training on a Skyfox Gazelle due to the different flap arrangement?

  5. Hi everyone. I have in my possession now a brand new shiney RPC, and have been learning in and hiring a Lightwing GR912 highwing aircraft. I was just wondering, what other aircraft could I fly without going for a Type Certification? And if I do go for a type certification, what would be involved? It is a question that I've been meaning to ask my instructor.... And also, what is the RAA definition of "Type"? Tony

  7. Thank you Aviation Advertiser, I must be the only one that has no problems getting on to your site and listings. I regularly browse the site..... all I need to do now is find a plane that I want and can afford, get my act together, and buy it!
  8. Yes, I remember about a year and a half ago I was faced with the question: should I invest a bit and get a really awesome flight sim setup, or should I learn to fly for real? Well I chose the later of course, and never looked back. Today I was on the sim to practice the nav I have tomorrow YBCM-YILW-YSPE-YBCM. I was so frustrated with the lack of landmarks and the unrealistic flying characteristics. But still, I think it got me into the right mindset for the real thing, doing the flight plan, the log, ground speeds, 1 in 60's etc. Tony
  9. Ouch Brent! That may seriously affect your progression to RPC. You will be playing serious catch up every lesson with a month in between them. Well, that's how it was with me.Tony

  12. How many hours did you put into it spacesailor? It's a shame if you did so much only to fail at the certificate stage. A CFI wouldn't send you out on your flight test if he/she didn't think you were ready. You could've redone the test.

  15. When you go for your TIF, ask your instructor about mounting requirements for your Go Pro in that particular plane. They have to comply with CASA regulations, so it is better to ask before you invest in a mount which may be totally unsuitable or illegal to mount.

  17. I passed my RPC at my 39th hour, over 10 months. But that was because I changed flying schools, aircraft and airfield, so I had to relearn a lot. I generally did one hour lesson every two weeks, then every week. The difference with Recreational Pilot Certificate and License? The Cert qualifies you to fly one or two seat aircraft lighter than 600kg MTOW outside of controlled airspace under 10000ft in Australia. A RPL qualifies you to fly heavier aircraft, but you need a class 1 or 2 medical. You may be restricted in how many passengers you can take, but I may be wrong, I haven't really looked into RPL, it's not really a direction I want to go. I know of one fellow who was training for his PPL who had racked up over 100 hours in his log book and still hadn't achieved his license. Either he was a really bad pilot or they were ripping him off terribly.

  20. It's a good feeling, isn't it, David? Being able to roll the plane out and fly where ever you want to go... within the 25nm mile zone of course.I have my 2nd Navex tomorrow, and I will be within your vicinity Coominya - Gympie - Caloundra - Coominya. The forecast is looking good. I think I'm good with the 1-in-60's and the GS calculations now. I'm sure John will challenge me with something I won't be expecting though. Tony

  22. Hi Andrew, Yes, I finally got to go yesterday (Wednesday). I was booked to go on Monday, postponed due to weather for the next day and that one was postponed again due to more bad weather. It was good, however, I did feel a bit overloaded with all the new tasks as well as flying the plane. It's been a little while for me since I've had my instructor in the plane with me, so he was pulling me up on some bad habits that were creeping into my flying. In short, it was a steep learning curve, but a valuable learning experience. I can see myself really enjoying this phase of my flight training. The nav: YBCM - YPWH - YWCK - YBCM But it was real nice to be flying outside the 25nm radius. My next nav, that I've already started the planning for, is YBCM - YGYM - YCDR - YBCM. Hopefully I'll do better, I'm sure I will, it's all starting to come together, I think. All the best for Sunday Andrew, I hope the weather holds for you, and all the best with your test.   24. The weather experts summarize all this info for us in the form of the ARFOR's TAF, TTF's etc anyway. Helps to understand it a little bit though.
  25. Thanks Nev, I forgot to mention that the rotation direction of the highs and lows only applies to the Southern Hemisphere, thanks for clarifying that. Your moist air explanation I think will help Parkway out a lot with predicting low cloud/fog conditions.
