  1. Well, It's a good example of what not to do as a pilot.... My apologies, I think this is the correct reference: ASN Aircraft incident 10-SEP-2016 Brändli BX-2 Cherry PH-YCM
  2. As others have said, once your CFI has signed your logbook as passed your certificate, you are good to fly. When I got mine, I booked the plane for the very next day!Turn around for the arrival of your Pilot Certificate may be a bit of a wait at this time. It was about a week when I got mine in February. But I passed my Cross Country Endorsement over 2 weeks ago and it has not even listed on my member portal yet. I rang them to verify everything was in order, and they said is is, but they are a bit snowed under with the paperwork at the moment. Again, my CFI's signed entry in my logbook is my authority to fly XC.
  3. I can't help but think that the instructor may have turned back after the failure, as evidenced by the downwind landing. We are taught, never turn back after an engine failure at that altitude, but pick a landing area ahead within the forward 70° so you can land into the wind with full flaps. Even with a failure with altitude, landing into the wind is much preferred and has the greatest chance of a good outcome. To me, it looks like he has turned back using no flap, maybe he was thinking that he would have the least altitude loss during the turn, and forgot or run out of time, to deploy flaps. The wind pushed him well past the runway
  4. Apparently they were practicing emergency landings when at 200ft they applied power and the engine failed. ASN Aircraft incident 27-SEP-2013 Brändli BX-2 Cherry PH-YCM With the tailwind evident, did they turn back after the EFATO? No chance to go around.... it was a terrible situation to be faced, at least no-one got hurt.
  5. Congratulations Parkway! Well done, now the fun begins! BTW, great vid
  6. No flaps deployed. Coming in too fast perhaps? Too many bounces, as you said Red, he should have gone around. Tony
  7. Parkway, you must have radio'ed the tower for a clearance on RWY 06R, so if the tower contacted your call-sign and said "cleared for takeoff", then you would be good to read it back as stated to you, and you could assume the clearance was given. However, for good measure it would probably be wise to question the tower to confirm the clearance for that runway, after all, people sometimes make mistakes, even ATC. Resolve all doubt in your favour.
  8. Same here, and I still do. It's a great way to loose height with full flaps, without increasing your speed. As long as you keep that speed up at your approach speed and it's ok by the POH.
  9. You should breeze through your xc endorsement then, a lot of it is weather related, you'll love it.
  10. I got mine in the mail today
  11. Hi Steve, welcome
  12. BKN or OVC cloud at 1000AGL or less, Severe Turbulance, Visibility less than 5000m, Any mention of Mountain Waves or Any mention of SIGMET's in the area. Hey Richard, don't be afraid cancel and to pick another day to fly if these conditions feature in your area.... I'd even hum and ha about taking off in MOD Turbulence. Remember, we are recreational pilots who for it for the fun of it. It's no fun in those conditions. Learn about the minimums required for VFR flight, stay in VMC. Learn to read the aviation forecasts, ARFOR's and TAF's, they are your friends. Better to find out from the forecast than after you get into the air. It is good airmanship to fly another day if the conditions are no good or marginal. Besides, it is mandatory to obtain a aviation forecast when leaving the vicinity of the aerodrome...... I get one before I do any flying. Tony
  13. May be a little challenging to get the MTOW below 600kg
  14. Hi and welcome D'
  15. Hi Leigh, welcome, I'm thinking of doing some tyre kicking myself
  16. Welcome Matthew Tony
  17. I was pleasantly surprised on my flight test. My CFI took me out on what I thought was just another lesson, did some more emergency procedures, wing drops, circuit entries and exits, and a few other things. We returned and he started filling out the usual paperwork, but one new sheet which I read from the other side of the table was labeled "Flight Test for the Issue of Pilot Certificate". After completing and signing it, he reached over, shook my hand and said, "Congratulations Captain!" I think I would have been as nervous as a cat if he had told me at the start of the flight that I was doing the flight test.
  18. Yesterday I did a little nav out of the local area. This was the 1st since I got my XC endorsement. YBCM to YCAB and back. The trip is usually a 72nm round trip, but we took a more scenic route 96nm through Toogoolawah and Kilcoy, back over Somerset Dam. Took a mate and visited family at Caboolture. When at Caboolture, I took my nephew for a circuit around Caboolture. It was a great day to be flying, we had fantastic conditions.
  19. Thanks David, Sounds like an excuse to stretch the wings again. I will do that soon! I'll PM you when I'm good to go, probably within the next 3 weeks.Cheers Tony
  20. Well, I passed the exam last week, and after 2 postponements due to bad weather, I flew my solo xc today. YBCM-YSPE-YCFN-YBCM. All went very well, couldn't land at Clifton though, the runway was still boggy from all the recent rain, so I just over flew it instead. I really enjoyed the day! I now have a nice new entry under the "Endorsements" page of my log book Time now to see this wonderful country of ours! Tony
  21. I sought a bit of clarification from my CFI about what constitutes a type. It is the same as GA. If you want to fly a different model of plane you need to get the type endorsement on that plane. He was saying that even though you were good to fly a Cessna C172, to fly a Cessna C150, you'd need a type endorsement done to fly a C150.
  22. Funny you should say that Geoff..... I have been looking at one of them recently..... nice 80Lt fuel tank too
  23. Yes, thanks, I saw that, and 24 registered, but unfortunately a little out of my budget at this time.....
  24. I've experienced the same problems as many others have, the site being down at various times. You say you fixed it, I believe you. Since you said it was fixed, I haven't had any problem accessing the site... well done.
