  1. Hi and welcome Bruce:welcome: What do you fly? Or are you learning, in which case, what do you fly? Cheers, Tony
  2. Hey, you're on. Yes, it is a very nice place to be flying. I asked Nev to give me a bit of instruction, so we were out doing some circuits and during a full stop on Rwy08 we had to pull up short to stay out of the prop blast of the Constellation warming up its 4 engines, where do you ever see that, anymore?I can tell quite a story about my adventure in Wollongong, and getting back home. Marginal VFR to Cowra, a lot of lowish flying through valleys staying just under the clouds, overnight stay and refuel in Narromine. Relatively good conditions back to Coominya, with storms forecasted soon after my arrival. It's a great plane too, it handled magnificently! I have a new found love and respect for the Jabs. You must be pretty close to getting your certificate. I must warn you, it just gets more awesome once you get it!
  3. Great Vid once again Rich. I was in your area in the last few days. I went to YWOL to purchase my first plane, a nice Jabiru LSA-55... The weather was a bit hectic after I got there. It seemed the moment I signed the paperwork, the weather moved in. Thanks to Nev and Bruce helping me out with my flight plan with their local knowledge, I was able to fly her out of YWOL on Sunday and then home yesterday. You do have a very nice place to be doing your flight training. Cheers, Tony
  4. Hi, and welcome Supacat! You have about the same experience as many on here, so don't think your input isn't valued. Cheers, Tony
  5. You know I'd like to take all the credit for my safe trip back, but I can't. My original flight plan was to take me through some very tough terrain, and as it turned out some very dangerous and long lasting weather for VFR. A couple of friendly local flight instructors gave me a heads up about the disadvantages of my plan and suggested another. The other person that helped me with the timing of the flight was a call to the weather bureau, the number that is listed at the bottom of the ARFOR's. After going through my amended flight plan, she gave me some very accurate forecasts for the next few days for the areas along my flight path. The moral of the story, don't be too proud to listen to the professionals, ignore their advise to your perril.
  6. I like the base cloud feature in the WindyTV section for the areas you can fly VFR. It helped me out a lot to get home in the last few days.
  7. Hi and welcome Kerry!Yes, good idea learning some flying skills. I will also put my 2c worth in and say, go for it, as far as learning to fly and getting your certificate. If your hubby's plane is factory built, which I'd say it is, and L2 maintained, then it is good to use for flight training. The good news for you is that you only have to utilize the services of an instructor, saving you heaps of cash. Cheers, Tony
  8. I made it back safe and sound yesterday, in my very 1st aircraft! exciting times. She's nicely settled in to her new spot in the hanger. I have to admit, I'm a new convert to Jabs, she handled and performed magnificently for the whole journey from Wollongong to Narromine to Coominya, some 587nm. And it was comfortable! My wife has been very supportive of of the purchase, but she says she's not keen to fly with me. However, she is keen to see it this afternoon..... there's hope!
  9. Well, I'm sitting in a motel room in Narromine after an epic flight to finally escape the clutches of the nasty Wollongong weather. 2 friendly and knowledgeable local instructors (Nev and Bruce) from Fly Illawara, and Rose from BOM, gave me some very helpful advice. Some nasty storms now to the north, but it should be good to make the home run via Warwick tomorrow morning. Tony
  10. Congratulations scre80, I know exactly how you feel. I just purchased my first plane 2 days ago. A Jabiru LSA 55. I'm currently sitting in Wollongong waiting for the weather to clear so I can fly her back home to Qld. Hoping to begin the journey today. Like you I also can't thank my lovely and supportive wife without whom this would not have been possible. Cheers, Tony
  11. Hi and welcome Simon. It is an awesome thing to do. Why wait to the end of the year? You can do your training a little at a time as the budget allows. Lessons generally cost between $200 and $250 per lesson. You can book a TIF (Trial Introductory Flight) to see if it is for you. Cheers, Tony
  12. and still that microlight still appeared to continue to land when you were not clear of the runway... did he land?
  13. Hi everyone. I'm planning a flight stopping at Scone(YSCO) for fuel soon. Is there anything I should know apart what's in ERSA? Cheers, Tony
  14. Hey, well done Cookie, They always put those magnets on the left side of the runway, don't they? Don't worry too much, I think everyone is guilty of not using the rudder enough in the early days. I must have been one of the only ones spotting the low overcast cloud, it didn't give you much chance to fly at anything but that altitude. That plane is too fast to do a real tight pattern, unless you do slow flight with some flap, at that altitude, and your stage in your training, not a safe option, IMHO. My only critical observation, and I may have missed it, was that you appeared to be backtracking to exit the runway within the boundary of the runway markers, without stating your intentions over the radio.... as I said, maybe I missed it. Really quite important considering there was a bit of traffic in the circuit, and that Microlight in particular on final... Great vid, I enjoyed it.... keep 'em comin!
  15. Hi Henry, and welcome to the awesome world of recreational aviation. Keep at it, it only gets better as you get closer to your certificate. Even better after you earn it.... Tony
  16. Where are you hangaring? For your information, John at Coominya Flight Training (YBCM) operates a few Lightwings for flight training and private hire. He taught me to fly and he is very knowledgeable about the Lightwings.
  17. Hey Ben A nose wheel version? Yes, they are a great aircraft to fly. I'd love to continue to fly it, but it looks like I may have a similar job to do next week if I take the plunge and purchase my first plane. Only a 6 hour flight for me if I go ahead with it. Where are you ferrying it from/to? Tony
  18. I guess you are doing this already, or planning to do so, but ERSA lists the aerodromes phone numbers, I'd call them to see what your options are at that location. They may be able to arrange something for you, if they don't stock it. I'm keen to see some of the replies to your thread, as I am also in the market to purchase a plane. I heard somewhere that if you do use AVGAS on such an engine, it may be an idea to do your services every 25hrs instead of 50hrs, something about your oil consumption going up when you Tony.
  19. Would that be a Tecnam P92? I don't think Jabiru make a P92
  20. Hi Jayke, :wave:Welcome to the forum. What do you fly? Cheers, Tony.
  21. I like Caboolture (YCAB) I visit the place often.
  22. The airspace is not the problem, there is a lack of airfields in the vicinity of the city.
  23. Hi John, and welcome to the forum .... Yes, I've seen the VTC of the Canberra area. The landing and take off options look rather sparse for Recreational Aviation. As our nations capital city, this is rather shameful in my opinion. Tony
  24. The investigation is still pending. If anyone witnessed or videoed the accident, the ATSB are keen to talk with you. look at this page: Investigation: AO-2017-013 - Collision with water involving Grumman American Aviation Corp G-73, registered VH-CQA, 10 km WSW of Perth Airport, Western Australia on 26 January 2017
  25. It's good to see 7440 back in service
