  1. If it's anything like mine which I did today, you will get a total of 3 emails soon. One confirming that you passed with an attachment that you can print and put with your license, the next with what appears to be the same attachment but with the questions you got wrong, and the third one saying your assignment has been graded.... not real sure of the point of the last one.... Then you will have a new endorsement (Owner/Maintainer) on your RAAus member portal.
  2. Not sure if this helps Yen, I did the L1 course today. My understanding is that with this qualification you can do your own maintenance, including annuals, on your RAAus Corby, as long as it is not used for flight training. Single seat, so I guess not. There was also mention of recognition of previous maintenance courses and training as well. Tony
  3. Hi and Welcome Alexi
  4. Thanks Mark. I guess they were, I found it was worded much the same way all the exams I took within the last 2 years, which was all my aviation exams to gain my certificate and xc. But I've come to expect them to be written that way now. I found the supporting documents were a bit lackingCheers, Tony
  5. I passed my L1 exam this afternoon as well. A couple of weeks ago, I was a bit curious about this course. One click led to another and before I knew it, I had accidentally signed up for it. Well after thinking about it I thought I'd have a go at the exam, and I passed! Well I'm all set when I get my own plane
  6. This video is an oldie, but a goodie. It may help you with judging when to round out, it helped me.
  7. Hi and welcome Frans! I'm hoping to fly up to Hervey Bay some day soon. I just gained my XC myself. Cheers, Tony.
  8. Some more footage. It looks like the pilot did a steep turn and stalled. Tragically the two people on board didn't survive. I'd say it wasn't RAA, it was a twin engine seaplane.
  9. Good luck with it all FlyingPhil. I'd suggest you keep it slightly more regular from now on, like a lesson per week or fortnight, even one a month. Even so, your nine hours will count towards your certificate as long as you show yourself competent. I know Dave Briffa, I did a couple of hours with Dave, last year, in the P2008 with the view to get type certified, I changed my mind half way through and moved in a different direction. You're in good hands though. Cheers, Tony.
  10. Oz Runways is amazing, I could even tell that they made a crosswind join and landed on RWY07
  11. Sad to hear about the Tecnam coming to grief like that, is everyone ok?Hey I saw 7600 on Oz Runways today looking what looked like a nav to Casino, Stanthorpe and back, anyone you know? Tony
  12. Hi Adam and welcome to the awesome world of aviation! Exciting times are ahead of you:wave: Cheers, Tony.
  13. I was going to attend the Stradbroke Island Fly-in Breakfast today, but it was cancelled yesterday due to the weather forecast. I thought I'd go to the airfield (YBCM) and maybe go for a solo local flight anyway. I'm glad I did, the conditions were next to perfect.
  14. I have been running Oz Runways on an iPad Air with the data option since early December 2016, and I give it 2 thumbs up. I recently put a sim card in to access the internet in flight. I was previously hot-spotting it to my phone, but it burns through the phone battery fairly quickly doing it that way. The GPS has proved to be very accurate for me. I just have it in a standard $30 folder type case, and it serves me well, like this. I did my XC training with my map and paperwork in a similar folder. I have a nice little niche in the plane to store it securely on take off and landing.
  15. Hi from Sunny Queensland, Australia. Welcome to the forum
  16. That's what the US said just before Vietnam. They said the machine gun and canon in aerial warfare are things of the past. They learned real quick that having missiles and no guns puts them at a major disadvantage. Electronic counter measure systems will limit the use of missiles and radar, so there will always be a place for dog fighting using machine guns or canons and maneuverable fast aircraft. The designers and marketers of the F35 must be blissfully unaware or ignorant of the lessons by by the US pilots early in that war
  17. Welcome to the wonderful world of recreational aviation guys! I started losing my interest in the flight sims once I started getting into my flight training, it just wasn't the same. Cheers, Tony
  18. Great thanks Mark, are you flying any recreational aircraft?
  19. Hi Mark and Ben, welcome to the forum. Tony
  20. I would talk to your instructor and take his/her advice as to what theory books to get. I did that, and purchased a Student Pilot kit including 3 theory books by David Robson and a log book. By the time I completed my certificate, I had changed my schools, the new one favouring the Dyson Holland study material, which was not a problem, I did not require the DH books to complete it. I completed my Cross Country endorsement using the very good Dyson Holland XC manual.
  21. Hi and welcome Denis In my opinion, hardest step in becoming a pilot is the first one. Why don't you contact one of the flying schools at Bendigo and see if you can book a TIF (Trial introductory flight). You will not regret it. Tony.
  22. Well if you are going to include all those other factors as well, you agree with me that all those vehicles are on par with one another as far as safety goes.... if these other factors worry you, you may as well roll yourself up in a little cocoon and hibernate away from the rest of the world.... of course accidents happen, but they are greatly reduced and the consequences reduced if they do happen, when operating and maintaining those vehicles correctly. If it is not clear, I have no opinion on the crash at the start of this post, that is up to the investigators. My thoughts and wishes are with those affected and injured by it.
  23. Welcome and hi Todd. I have no idea which model of Thruster it is, but someone on here will know, it is but it looks like it has a Rotax 2 stroke engine, Maybe? And you'd need a tail wheel and 2 stroke endorsements to fly it. I took the plunge a couple of years ago and got my pilot certificate, it was the most fun I've had ever, then it got better when I started hiring a plane and flying around. Have you started your flight training? Tony
  24. Hi and welcome Smally
  25. I see on the RAA website there's a flight school listed at Cunnamulla. Does that help?
