1.
https://www.recreationalflying.com/xf2/uploads/emoticons/074_stirrer.gif.5dad7b21c959cf11ea13e4267b2e9bc0.gif[/img]
2. True, during my north/south and south north treks, I avoid it like the plague.
3. In NSW all housing built since at least 2011 has had to meet BASIX standards. Mine in Tenterfield, owner built in 2012/13 had to have a light coloured roof. I don't know what Zone the Sydney Basin is classified as.
4. Slightly OT, but that was a vastly different issue. Animal Quarantine cannot be left to foreign people who are paid to imitate other people (Johnny Depp) or the popular press. The inadvertent introduction of any one of dozens of diseases etc., that currently do not exist in Australia and which none of our domestic, native or feral animals have any resistance to, would be devastating on many levels. On this occasion I am totally behind that buffoon Joyce. Even though it was he who fired the bullets, he didn't load that gun. As this is an Aviation forum it may have had serious personal aviation consequences. As Depp's party came and went in chartered aircraft the PiC has responsibility for the Flight, Aircraft and all on it. His signature was on the documentation that certified that those particular flights met ALL Australian entry conditions. As such it could have been the PiC' License in jeopardy thus his career.
5. Probably for much the same reason that RAAF Pearce 2FTS did/does a component of their Flying Training at Albany in Summer and Learmonth in Winter. Lots of uncluttered sky. And not too many panicky or (any bit of) noise averse people around, who are only too willing to telephone any and everyone whenever their dyspepsia surfaces. Thus causing lots of extra work for those flying and those running the shop. And if they have contacts up the hill in Perth or Canberra, that extra work multiplies exponentially.
6. Thanks, its good to get the views of those who make their living at the heart of the industry.
7. I did watch that a few weeks ago and thought the same. I did think about posting it but knew that all the Hon Gents on this forum cruise at greater moral altitudes (oops done it again) than the impression given.
8. I have just come across this one. I don't know if it has popped up here before. Raptor Aircraft Home Hop over to the "Finance" drop down and check the cost schedule. For what it appears to be, it looks mind boggling. At ~1600 kg and 300knot max - it looks GA I do like this one "reversible propeller". It reminded me of the first time I saw a C130 back-up. I was at Rabaul Airport in the early 1970s when a Herc came in and wanting to get the right parking spot (and impressing the plonkers) he reversed the props and backed up to where he wanted to offload and reload. It was all extremely impressive.
9. I don't, but I drive past there regularly. I live in Tenterfield. And I notice that Qld Transport, or whatever the truckling monitoring mob is called there, have put up a goodly sized fence at the end of the N/S strip. Although someone had the sense to place the sign a bit further back up the road so it wasn't a choice of Fence AND sign. I also noticed that they have built another "shed" (hangar) over on the East side of that strip. If it all goes haywire, there are always the Tomato fields across the road, then just to the north on the "Tomato" side there is a fairly good clear patch of level ground. Unfortunately that appears to be owned/occupied by a bunch of Highland Cattle but I don't know how territorial they are ;-)
10. From that ABC article: "In Europe, tiny airports are being used to develop new environmentally and economically efficient aviation technologies." It would appear that the definition of "economically efficient" has undergone what has occurred to Australia's populace, almost terminal bloat.
11. Umm, isn't that what Farms had prior to the Grid reaching them? I remember when I was in my early years of high school in the Hunter Valley in the early 1960s, some of my classmates lived on farms quite a distance from towns, they were all on generators because there were no external power sources. Even after Liddell was commissioned it still took several years until the poles and wires reached them.
12. Blocks of memory return from many years ago and I thought that the reason the Snowy Mountains Scheme pumped the water back up into the top storage ponds at night time was because of the spare power in the Grid, because the coal fired stations had to run 24/7, and it was very cheap to do so. If those parameters have changed, I am prepared to re-think my approach to that form of power generation.
13. By the looks of this article it would appear that there is some basis to that old western statement "They all look the same".
14. By the looks of it, nature is in the process of straightening out that particular human quirk
15. Whomever put together/designed and approved that formation should stop sniffing the AvGas and try some fresh air
16. 'Ain't going to happen. I reckon they will pour $millions into remedial maintenance and then the machinery will just collapse, soon after. Short of competely replacing everything, replacing bits and pieces in that environment just wont cut it. They have already flogged to death everything at Liddell. And I would say its much the same for every other privatised coal fired power station.
17. Interesting isn't it. Your and my local member could well be a founding member of "anti-Mensa"
18. Umm, the header is about "...training costs..." so I reckon the extra time saved getting to and from the Training Area wont amount to that much. Learning the basics on a cheaper airframe makes much more sense. Evening Ian I noticed the PC9 and Bug Smasher in your lineup and was intrigued. Pilot's Course, none of them. I was their IT bod from 2001 to 2005. When they Deployed I did the database split and rejoin when they came back. Depending on what was happening I sometimes deployed with them, always to Learmonth, because the comms up there were crap. I looked after the Flying Training Database, a program specifically written for 2FTS called FlightPro (About Us | Command and Control | Operations Management | Systems) and (FlightPro® | Command and Control | Operations Management | Systems). This incorporated the Curriculum and all the Programming, so the daily Flying Operations was on both the Traditional Whiteboard in The Cage and on the Defence network, with live screens all over the School, out on the FlightLine, up in the Tower, Base HQ and some other places. As time went on Hours, Quals, Currencies and Recencies were included. Top LH corner of the YPLM landing is one of the FlightPro Strips. Tail #26 pix is probably the best one I have ever taken. Re the "not all of them good" comment, yes even for the top Studs, they were always under the gun, it was pretty stressful for them. I come up to Brisbane every now and then (terrestrial transport ;-) ) could we get together next time? Cheers Denis

20. Plus a whole heap of relatively aircraft free airspace. So picking up the basics is a whole lot easier. Why do you think the RAAF Pearce Flying Training School (2FTS) do their winter Flying Training - Combat Flying and Aerobatics up at RAAF Learmonth, which is a Civil/Military Airport? And Summer in Albany? Lots of free sky and practically no-one else there. Learmonth isn't as scenic as the Darling Downs though ;-)
