  1. I have had a report that there has been a large upturn in the demand for GA pilots licence. Has anyone else heard this? I suppose as the airlines are having a demand. Personally I expect pilotless aircraft in around 20 years I wonder if an airlines job has so much future.
  2. Point taken. I don't know what other words to use
  3. I could not agree more. The expense that made the cost around double was that my doctor was not equipped to test my eyes. She asked me to go to an optometrist. The optometrist charged $160 for an eye examination for a heavy vehicle licence. I have a licence that the medical does not all ifr flying, no endorsement so no worries . No night flying, well I think that my night vision is not as good when one gets older, so not really an issue. Biggie is aerobatic flying. Something I was about to start, but next year I can do a dame exam and then get all privileges back.
  4. Sorry, just read profile. I see that you are in Great Britain. Age is getting to me lol
  5. Where are you located?
  6. Sure, but using your driver's licence foris a lot less expensive. But your point is well worth your mentioning it. Appreciate your effort.
  7. My basic Class 2 medical just cost me $330. Now that I am 70, this could be each year! None get away cheap.
  8. Found a publication that says floor height for house must be 500mm +1% flood level ( no idea what it means) above ground. Looks like it floods, hangar may have lots of water in ir
  9. I expect with me in it .
  10. My own design aircraft is single seat. But in case that I die I have suggested to my wife that she not sell it but put a chain saw through it. No insurance problems. She said that she would love to put a chain saw through it, unfortunately she wants to do it now, before it is even finished.
  11. The eye test was so comprehensive. Apparently this is what they do for the heavy vehicle driving examination. Took about an hour.
  12. After spending $200 plus each two years and now reaching 70 and having to do Class 2 medicals each year I decided to do the Basic medical, save some money. How wrong I was. Yes CASA only charge $10 to process it but, I have spent two visits to our medical fraternity and have been charged around $240 dollars in medical examinations and nearly 2.5 hours in these examinations. Went to my usual GP, she is far more cautious than any pilot DAME that I have ever been to. That flying is so dangerous! She could not do the simple eye test and asked me to get a certificate for the heavy vehicle licence eye test from an optometrist. $100 dollars! her fee $125. And I still have to fill out a sleep questionnaire as she gave me some tablets for some sleep problems during a recent very worrying time. I just wish that I had gone to a DAME.
  13. And by the way the most spectacular person that was on the spectrum was Albert Einstein. He was asked to be the first president of Israel he declined he knew that his people skills were poor.
  14. As I reported earlier I earned a very large amount of money, I spent over $120k on my Mooney upgrading and renewing. My lower end spectrum situation ( please use this rather than Asperger's) has given me different skills. My friends know that am different. Others will often try to use me taking advantage of my lack of people skills, I just stay away from them when I find out what they are doing. I had difficulty learning at University. But because of the way that I have to learn I still can do all the mathematics for aircraft design, not usual for people that Excell at study. I love engineering and anything I do alone. We have so much empathy, we just don't understand people and often hurt them. Don't treat us differently, just forgive us if we say the wrong or unusual thing we often are trying to be kind when we do it.
  15. I don't find that I have that much to concentrate on, I think that most aircraft flying comes from one area of the brain. Not much interested area communication required. However when renewing my night licence I had an instructor that was really all over me. My flying was terrible. Then he wanted to photograph a terrestrial event so he got his camera out and was taking pictures. While he was of my bachi just simply got the aircraft just right. He looked back at the panel and said it was perfect. I told him if he left me alone I was ok. I flew one of the latest Mooney's. It really was different to my Mooney. The check pilot from Mooney was telling me what to do each second. Too much to deal with a human (hard) and an aircraft (easy), he was asked to land it. I usually do very good on simulator failures. Did well on engine failures.
  16. I think that these days the asperge word has been dropped in favour of a description of where you are on the autistic spectrum. Autism is a condition where there are fewer than normal pathways between brain areas. Information highways so to speak. With fewer pathways situations can often be harder to cope with. The statement that we have less empathy is so VERY WRONG. We have huge empathy!!! We just don't understand when people are being hurt. With less brain connections a people understanding is often difficult as it requires so many parts of the brain, concentration on a single item not using many pathways is what we excel at! Having held a ppl for nearly 40 years the only problem I have is with instructors that tell me that this is not good and that is not good. If they just wait the stress comes off me and I can fly very well, in other words let the pathways be clear for flying. I acted differently but actually the best way when I had an engine cut out on me. I actually feel an aircraft. Remembering the correct call words can be a problem. I have done aerobic exercises three times a week for over 20 years has developed new pathways in my mind (and an extra artery to my heart) so it can be fixed. My ability to catch a ball using these new pathways has confused some psychs trying to diagnose my condition. Spacial orientation is not related to the condition. I have exceptional spacial orientation. I am retired now but my ability to concentrate on a single subject, pathways fully utilised so distractions don't work, has given me the ability to solve many complex engineering problems and earn very large fees. And significant self satisfaction over my years of work. Things are not so bad, particularly if you have loved ones that understand that you really don't understand people, too many pathways in the brain are required!
  17. For blue asbestos one fibre in 10 million is just the wrong size and shape that it gets caught in the lungs. Body builds scar tissue around it. Eventually will then give you problems. So it is like winning lotto but losing. In our industry smokers seemed most at risk. In the sixties I played with the stuff. Nice soft stuff in bulk. We used it for pilp insulation. Experts these days tell me that it could turn very serious at any time in the rest of my life. I may have actually missed a bad fibre. They get me to get a chest x Ray every two years. Wife reckons only the good die young so I will live for ever
  18. You must have lots of money to be able to afford the landing fees. I just flew around for some time then flew around the Olga's then on to Warburton. I have seen enough. The radio guy asked for landing details, told him none just flying around. There is a no fly area.
  19. Did you know that there are two Mooney Porsche's in Melbourne?
  20. I would like to chat with you about cozy and cri cri aircraft and the aircraft that I am building. Call 0419691452 to cjac. I hope that I am allowed to give my phone, but it would take a long time to write it down on this site
  21. Just called CASA Medical. They told me that the Basic Class 2 is still on track for July 1 and that they are doing testing in the near future.
  22. I am due this month for my GA medical. When does the new GP approved system start. Last I saw was middle of the year. Should I wait or do the old medical. Don't intend to fly in the next few months.
  23. I am also interested. My project can be registered in either category. I would like to know from an ownership point of view as to running costs and bureaucratic aspects. What about building costs of the same Aircraft.
  24. I have a set of Matco axles hubs, brakes and master cylinders that are now redundant. Never used. If anyone is interested
  25. I was 33
