  1. Wow Caz, you don't do things in halves! You want a builders forum so you go straight the biggest (I think) kit manufacturer in the world! Thanks for all you do for us. And congrats to all our new board members!
  2. Hi and welcome Peter. I reckon one of the members here, JG3, is the Savannah king. He flies out of Kilcoy. Just to whet your appetite, check out his most recent trip in his Savannah in this thread. Peter
  3. Hadn't really researched the Airtruk before. Looking around the net, here's an interesting old video about the PL-12, and there's even a facebook fan page.
  4. Yeah Dex....the Canola's looking great. Thought we'd give a boost with some urea. Evan if you look at the side on photo you can see the door on the right hand side of the cockpit. You climb up on steps behind the wing. If you look below the windows at the back, you can see a step cut into the fuselage midway between the main and stub wing. The windows are for a passenger cabin at the back behind the fertilizer hopper. That's where the sheep in Ozzie's story above were.
  5. Our paddocks are too wet (at last) to get a tractor on to, and it was time to feed our crops a bit of extra fertilizer. So we called upon the services of our local Aerial Applicator company, Hazair of Albury. Hazair is operated by the Death family and you may have seen Stephen Death flying in the Southern Knights aerobatic team or flying various aircraft at the Temora Aviation Museum. As far as I know Hazair are the only company in Oz that still operates the unusual, but cool, Transavia Airtruk. It is (or rather was) an Aussie manufactured aircraft which is difficult to describe so here's a few photos. This particular one has a 400hp, 8 cylinder, IO720 engine...magic sound! The pilot claims it is the nicest aircraft to fly of any he has flown.
  6. Welcome to the forums Timold. Lots of good info and wise people here. And good company too.
  7. Better rename this thread NES2....
  8. Underbelly....Pfft! Negotiating the Master Thruster movie rights as we speak.....
  9. No, No Tomo....we need a bit more material for the TV series yet. Me and Pud will be rich. Then Pud can ditch the Thruster and buy a Hornet!
  10. Well done Chris on taking the first step. Exciting isn't it! Finally, it's actually you that has that control column in your hand and you're the one controlling the plane. Good luck in your journey of learning. Peter
  11. Thanks for your efforts, David, in the whole election process. Two comments: 1- I was hoping that with all the publicity on this site, and with the amount of meet and greet some of the candidates did at Natfly and elsewhere, that voter turnout might have been significantly higher. 2- I'm slightly uneasy with the fact that a group of pilots, who supposedly can read maps; read weather forecasts and notams; and do the calculations and planning for fuel, weight and navigation etc; can't seem to follow a reasonably simple set of voting instructions.
  12. I used to practice landings a lot on a flightsim (FlightGear) long before I started training (before I ever dreamed I'd actually be doing it for real). As ahlocks says, I think it stood me in good stead for real landings just because I knew what the picture should look like. Turns were the same, even though the real stick forces felt totally different, I still instinctively knew what was needed to keep a stable level, climbing or descending turn. When my landings went bad a while ago I used flightsim to train myself to look at the end of the runway again. Seemed to work because my instructor jokingly accused me of sneaking off to another school to practice in between lessons with him. So yes, flightsims are nothing like the real thing, but you can practice a few things that train your brain for flying. But since I've started real flying I must admit I've hardly touched flightsim and I have pulled apart my joystick to see if I could modify the spring pressure.
  13. I've seen a few LSAs with Airmaster CSUs, including a Savannah.
  14. Oh well...I tried. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Hopefully quite a few noticed the thread title and were reminded to vote, but didn't vote in this poll.
  15. Geez David if ever I run for election to anything I know who to get for an agent  Oz...thanks for allowing us to vicariously experience Osh through your great reports!
  16. I'm with you Col...unclean scenarios are what I'm coming up with too. Let's hope they don't come to pass.
  17. There was one tiny little thing left that was fixed in the August edition....the little symbol that says it's the end of the article. I was always turning the page to read more of the article only to find it had ended. For me this edition hit 95% (can't give you a perfect score...got to keep you on your toes ). I really enjoy your articles and writing too Foxy Batgirl. Looking forward to the article on your next RAA lesson.
  18. That seems the most likely to me too....but I wonder is this procedure documented anywhere. Yes, not a problem for me because I'll cast preferences. But it is optional preferential, voters only need to mark one box in both elections. So it is conceivable that many votes in the by-election might be discarded if one of the candidates won the main election. I don't think it will be an issue, but I'm curious to know how it will work. Peter
  19. Got my August mag today (yay...nice surprise...well done to the publishers!) and with it the ballot paper for the NSW by-election. I note that two of the three candidates are the same as for the main election (Don and Col). I'm wondering what happens if the same candidate wins both the main election and the by-election? Or will we know the results of the main election before we need to cast a by-election vote? If so, how are members notified of an election result? If it's in the Sept magazine that will be too late to be able to vote in the by-election.
  20. Ah yes, the PTT Automatic Stupidity Inducing Button...I know it well....
  21. Well, the video made it onto youtube....so they probably all walked away from the landing....hence, ipso facto, according to legend and popular lore, the landing was good!!
  22. Ahhh...now I see...string us all along, keep us in suspense, charge us an entry fee, pay for the engine!!! Clever!
  23. As a secretary of a non-profit I can tell you meeting minutes are ALWAYS sanitized, ratified or not. They can't be, and never are, a blow by blow account of a meeting. I think we have to trust we have enough good people on the board that would blow the whistle if the minutes shown to members were misleadingly different from the official minutes.
