  1. Be careful. I just went through my renewal, received my receipt etc. but no card. Then a week later I get a letter saying we've witheld it since you haven't done your BFR (which I had). My school forgot to send the papers in. This took a few weeks to sort out. I'd make sure there are no problems with your license first.
  2. I joined RAAus to fly the LSA types as a cheaper alternative than GA. I just didn't really know what I was signing up to when I did (I didn't realise all the differences) but am happy that I have gone that way. CTA would be nice, but I am happy to do my GA to get it, Weight increase would be nice but only out of safety, not to allow some of the bulkier old GA aircraft in. I voted No of course. I can see this as being one of the divisive factors in RAAus in the coming years.
  3. Hope I can pull it off.
  4. Many Thanks John. Great post. However has this thread gone a little off topic? Shouldn't most of this be in the new forum?
  5. Has anyone here ever sat the entrance tests to get into airservices as an en route controller?
  6. I love it.
  7. I loved the human factors and Glad to see the OP has decided to stay, good choice. Just to put our fees in perspective of other aviation related organisations: GA - Well we've had breakdowns of the cost already in this thread, suffice to say heaps more Australian Parachuting Federation: $204 SAAA: $185 Glider Federation of Australia: $237 I don't think we're that bad off with ours.
  8. If you don't have the one with the scythes, then you are missing out on all the fun.
  9. already signed up on the recreational flying site. Just waiting for aircraft enthusiast now. Good work Ian and Co.
  10. Wish me luck. My assessment day early feb.
  11. Forgot to mention that I love the new format, the articles are generally well written and enjoyable. Overall a really good read.
  12. Most of the articles are almost adds for various aircraft. This isn't necessary a bad thing. Few things I noticed: - The cover story (feature) was 6 paragraphs (about 1/4 of a page). Thought this was a bit strange (and actually would h ave liked more of a story on the sapphire). - I like the little page on pilots toys - Professor Avius actually had something worthwhile to say (though common sense. Looks like he took a one off situation and turned it into a whole article) - Does there seem to be a heap more aircraft for sale this month than any other?
  13. FYI Ian: Love the idea of the seperate sites.. Even commented on it on my blog. If your in need of anyone to help out with aircraft geeks, I'd be happy to put some time in.
  14. i can actually become a perm resident so I shouldn't have any visa issues. thanks for the notes though guys. will have a think about it. Cheers.
  15. Hi All, I was thinking of spending a year in the US with my family over there. Since deciding that my sister sent me this link. Apparently her sister in law did this course over there: http://www.flyeasa.com/airline_pilot.php Would this be worthwhile? I mean would this be valid in australia or anything? Cheers, Shags
  16. Pete Denehy is a great country artist. This is quite a funny song though.
  17. Such good news I had to blog about it. It is fantastic that a council is wanting this to happen.
  18. If someone I take up is a little concerned about the fan stopping I usually explain what happens then show them how the aircraft glides (pull the throttle all the way out). They are usually amazed at how well they glide and at 3,000 ft they feel that it's pretty much not decending. Helps to keep them relaxed i found.
  19. My Flight Lt in my flight was telling us that when he was a cadet (late 40's) they let the cadets get into a mustang and fire off the cannon's. Coudl you imagine doing that today...
  20. I was sucked in when on my very first night we went to archerfield for a fly in a caribou.
  21. 15 Flt Cav Rd in Brisbane. I did way too much to list (see my blog for a condensed version)
  22. Hey All, Saw this today: http://auavnews.blogspot.com/2011/12/australian-air-cadet-alumni-site.html If you were a cadet you should look at joining. Would be good to get an alumni going. Cheers, Shags
  23. Great review maj. Should get a job wit the mag! Beautiful looking aircraft. How much would one of them set you back?
  24. Didn't earn this fine physique by being tmid at the table ;)
  25. When I take someone up, I take absolutely NO risks. Yet alone a risk as big as this. How many times are we told that VFR into IMC = Dead! There is another post about a student who decided to take hi cherokee i think it was for a flight (about two posts up). He only killed himself so I don't really care. This guy though. Makes me so mad.
